The Manhattan Project is a low-stakes, nonthreatening place for actors and playwrights to meet and work together. Based on the Theatre Lab model taught at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and inspired by The Brooklyn Generator in New York, The Manhattan Project wants to introduce Cleveland actors and playwrights to each other by organizing a bi-monthly production of brand new 10-minute plays. Participating artists will meet early in the month and will be broken into teams, each with one playwright. The playwright will then be given a writing prompt to write a new 10-minute play based on the prompt and including all the team's actors. The rest of the evening the team members will get to know each other and get a feel for each other's skills and voices. The teams will reconvene later in the month to perform these plays for each other. These 10-minute plays are not an end in themselves. Through these small collaborations we hope to build relationships between the two most vulnerable artists in theatre; the actors who put themselves on stage and the playwrights who pour themselves onto the page. Perhaps these 10-minute plays will grow into longer works or maybe these collaborations will become partnerships on larger projects. Confluence – CWRU Department of Dance MFA Thesis Concert

The Case Western Reserve University Department of Dance presents Confluence featuring choreography and performances by MFA candidates Ziying Cui and Yidi Lin. The concert includes three group works choreographed by Ziying Cui and Yidi Lin, a duet created by Karen Potter, Chair of the department, and a solo by CWRU alumna Christopher Bell (GRS ’12, dance). With a booming film industry in Cleveland, it is more important than ever to begin your training! Take advantage of these audition opportunities to develop your craft and book the roles you want! By offering training straight from Los Angeles, you will learn how to analyze a script, audition for the role you want, edit your marketing materials, and really launch your film career here in Cleveland. Take advantage of this 9 week session beginning February 8th. Our program offers classes for all age levels- Film Intensive I (ages 8-12), Film Intensive II (Ages 13-17), Film Intensive III (Ages 18-99) As part of our training program we are also offering a fantastic course in Improv. Although typically seen as a skill used for stage performances it is integral to an actors training. Film acting is all about responding in the moment as if your rehearsed dialogue is being spoken for the very first time. In order to be believable we have to practice that skill by responding to information as we receive it. Improv is the best way to work on that! Our Instructor, Lauren Berry, has received training in Los Angeles with Lesly Kahn (Lesly Kahn and Co), Tim Phillips Studio, and the famous Groundlings training program. Olmsted Performing Arts is now enrolling for the spring semester running February 8th through June 11th! With a wide variety of classes offered for students ages 4-18, our amazing staff offers quality training in a fun environment. Broadway Bootcamp-This class will study various broadway musicals, focusing on different styles and techniques. At the beginning of each chapter the class will simulate the broadway audition experience and learn vocals, choreography and scenes from each selected musical. This class is for the aspiring triple threat! Intro to Stage (Ages 4-6)This class, devoted to our youngest actors, encourages children to explore their creativity through make-believe play. Children will use their imagination to gain confidence in improvisation, character development, and stage presence. Learning through theatre games and acting exercises, as well as performing a small script, is a wonderful way to introduce young children to the world of acting. Musical Theatre Youth/Teen-Students will learn how to combine acting with vocal ability and basic stage movements. Good character physicality while singing will be developed. Focus will be on acting and singing, as the group learns a fun, ensemble number. Theatre A-P (Audition to Performance!)-This step by step approach will take the students through all components of being an actor. This class covers everything from how to audition, create a character, and even costuming! Improv-Learn the art of Improv! Students will create compelling characters and interesting storylines through the use of improvisational exercises. Through collaboratively working with scene partners the students will explore their creativity and feel comfortable making big and interesting choices when they create characters for performance! Playwriting-In this course you learn how to transform your ideas, thoughts, dreams, and feelings into a theatrical event: a 10-minute play that will take the audience on a journey. Working with writing prompts and multiple creative writing exercises, you will create compelling characters in conflict and share your writing in a supportive workshop setting.
