The Tri-C Western campus announces auditions for The Art of Dining - by Tina Howe Directed by Bob Ellis February 12th at 6 pm and February 13th at 2 pm in the Western Campus Theatre located at 11000 Pleasant Valley Rd. in Parma, Ohio 44130. Please be ready to improvise and read from the script. Looking for 3 Men and 6 women of any ethnicities and types, college-aged and older (Tri-C High School PSEOP students welcome), to play: * Neurotic short story writer - Elizabeth Barrow Colt * Publisher - David Osslow * Couple - Hannah and Paul Galt * Friends - Herrick Simmons, Nessa Vox and Tony Stassio * Restaurant owners - Ellen (also the chef) and Cal Tri-C does consider casting community members, but our goal is to cast as many students as possible. There may be a small stipend available. There are no Equity contracts. Synopsis: Cal and Ellen are the owners and sole staff of a small, elegant gourmet restaurant. Cal's main preoccupation is paying back the $75,000 it cost to start it up, and that means packing in the customers. Chef Ellen is preoccupied with the food's quality and stopping Cal from sampling the ingredients. The diners act out their own private dramas over dinner and their conversations are exquisite burlesques of contemporary attitudes. There's a sensual middle aged couple who go into paroxysms of ecstasy just reading the menu and then there's three crass chic young career women. Finally, there's Elizabeth, a maladroit, shy and neurotic writer who's dining with her prospective publisher. Her actions and conversation are unintentionally hilarious and a delicious example of how not to act and what not to talk about while dining. First performed in 1957, West Side Story broke many of Broadway’s expectations and rules about what could be portrayed on the stage. There was a palpable shift from musical comedy to musical theater. Inspired by Romeo and Juliet, the new musical blurred the lines between opera and pop, and reflected on the stage, one of the gang and ethnic conflicts of its time. Unfortunately, we still live in a society that tends to fear difference. At the center of it all is the ability to highlight the views, hopes and fears of teens! We will look at some of the major themes of the show and begin making contemporary connections that will continue throughout the production. The language of the piece is of the 50’s and beyond. We will discuss the use of both English and Spanish and, like Shakespeare’s contributions to his works, the creation of new words for the musical. Conceived by Jerome Robbins, West Side Story had more dancing than any other musical before it. Add to that, the considerable talents of Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim on music and Arthur Laurents on script. Yet, those in power at the time said that it could never happen. It was too dark, too tragic, too timely, too… hard. We will explore segments of the music and movement of the piece to give you a sense of what is to come, and lay a foundation of reality for the piece as a whole. This is far from High School Musical! Workshop Players present The Laramie Project by Moises Kaufman, directed by Rebecca Frick. Laramie, Wyoming, population 26,687. Laramie, often referred to as the “gem city of the plains”, was the site of the brutal murder of Matthew Shepard, a 21 year-old gay University of Wyoming student. On October 6, 1998, he was found tied to a buck fence, beaten and unconscious. *The Laramie Project* is a play by Moises Kaufman and the members of the Tectonic Theatre Project. “On November 14, 1998, members of Tectonic Theatre Project traveled to Laramie, Wyoming, and conducted interviews with the people of the town.” The play is “edited from those interviews, as well as from journal entries by members of the company.” (The Laramie Project, "Introduction") The Play is about the town of Laramie, its citizens, and their reaction to Matthew Shepard’s murder. As one of the investigating officers, Sergeant Hing stated: “How could this happen? I—I think a lot of people just don’t understand, and even I don’t really understand, how someone can do something like that. We have one of the most vocal populations of gay people in the state . . . and it’s pretty much: Live and let live.” The 9 actors in the cast portray 60+ characters. The cast includes: David Boyce, Ryanne Fury, Kyle Huff, David Hundertmark, Shelbey Linder, Caroline Meister, Pat Price, Kristina Rivera and Terry Smith. *Advisory*: This play contains language and situations that may be offensive to some audience members. *The Laramie Project* runs January 28th - February 14th. Auditions for Family Friendly Sci-Fi Based Improv Troupe

Greetings! We will be holding auditions on Monday January 25th at 7:30 PM for a family friendly Short Form Comedy Improv troupe (along the lines of Whose Line is it Anyway or ComedySportz). Auditions and rehearsals will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lakewood, 16400 Detroit Ave, Lakewood OH 44107. This particular troupe will be launching at Cleveland Concoction. www.clevelandconcoction.org To be an effective member of this troupe, these are the basics you need to be familiar with: Experience in improvisational acting and short form style games Knowledge of Nerdcore/Sci-Fi/Gaming Fandoms (Star Wars, Star Trek, Dungeons and Dragons, etc.) Basics of costuming and cosplaying Engaging an all-ages audience including young children We will be rehearsing Monday evenings from 7-9pm starting February 1st. There will be an additional dress rehearsal on March 7th and performances will be on March 12th and 13th during the day. As you consider this audition, please note the time commitment. Building an improv troupe takes time and trust and if you have conflicts with these dates, please provide them up front. No preparation necessary...just dress to move and have fun.
