East Cleveland Theater (ECT) is hosting auditions for “Lend Me a Tenor”, written by Ken Ludwig. We are seeking 4 men and 4 women for this show. *Synopsis:* When a world class tenor comes to Cleveland, lives, loves, and relationships are turned upside down, resulting in a comedy farce that no one should miss. *The Roles:* *Henry Saunders*: The Cleveland Grand Opera's general manager. Father to Maggie. A blowhard who often loses his temper at the slightest mishap. *Max*: Saunders' long-suffering assistant, who is forced to take Tito's place in the role of Othello. *Maggie Saunders*: Saunders' daughter, and Max's girlfriend. She has a great admiration for Tito. *Tito Merelli*: The world's most renowned opera tenor, and notorious ladies man. *Maria*: Tito's long-suffering wife, with an "Italian temper". Leaves Tito early in the play, but ultimately returns to him. Loves Tito, despite his philandering. *Diana*: The opera's ingenue soprano, who is "flinging her way" to the top. A seductive woman (and she knows it). *Julia*: Chairwoman of the Cleveland Opera Guild, who considers herself a "grande dame." She wears a silver dress which, Saunders says, makes her look "like the Chrysler Building." *The Bellhop*: A comic relief character who has an ongoing feud with Saunders. An obnoxious opera fan, the Bellhop keeps showing up at the hotel suite at the wrong moment, trying to get an autograph and a photo of Tito Merelli. Saunders ends up chasing the Bellhop around the hotel suite, and trying to strangle him. *Director: Megan Thompson* Megan Thompson is Executive Director of Great Lakes Light Opera, and has directed and performed in numerous shows. *Audition Dates:* Saturday, December 10, 2016, from 1 to 4pm. Last year, she took part in the reading of the upcoming Hugh Jackman movie musical, The Greatest Showman, based on the life of P.T. Barnum, with original music by Pasek and Paul. Last summer, she played Candy in the U.S. premiere of the new version of Saturday Night Fever at the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival. In August 2013, she completed a 2 1/2 year run swinging the national tour of Les Miserables. Back In 2010, she made her Broadway debut understudying the Menonettes in Everyday Rapture, starring Sherie Rene Scott. She also performed in the ensemble and understudied Elphaba in the 2nd national tour of Wicked. Natalie was an American Idol season 4 semi-finalist, has performed the National Anthem at Cowboys & Shea Stadium, but is most well known for her Youtube videos. She has gained an international following from her performance videos & popular web series, “Breaking Down The Riffs,” which have collectively reached over 3 million views. Check out her self-titled EP on iTunes. *MUSIC DIRECTED BY ROB KOVACS* Rob is a Cleveland-born pianist and composer. He is a current member of the FiveOne Experimental Orchestra and a regular performer with the Arts and Medicine Institute at the Cleveland Clinic. He is the first person to perform the solo version of Steve Reich’s Piano Phase by simultaneously playing both piano parts on two pianos. He has performed and recorded with several other Cleveland and NYC artists including Parson James, Grace Love, Sandra Bernhard, Herzog, Expecting Rain, Leonard DiCosimo and Margot B. He has written music for American Greetings’ e-cards and several award-winning short films including PheMIMEnon and Game On. Kovacs performed regularly at Cleveland’s Howl at the Moon as well as other dueling piano bars from New York City to Wisconsin. He was recognized as the 2008 Best Pianist/Keyboardist by the Cleveland Free Times (n.k.a. The Scene). With a little help from his friends, a knack for decoding dreams and a certain extravagantly pigmented jacket, watch the original underdog come out on top in this musical sensation. PERFORMANCES March 3-19 Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30PM Sundays at 3:00PM KIDS AUDITION Sunday, December 18th from 6:30PM-7:15PM Kids Only (8th Grade & Under) Be prepared to sing a 16 bar musical selection and tell a joke. * Children cast will be active throughout the performance, in many ways guiding the story-telling by not only singing, but also portraying various characters. Jacob: The father of twelve sons, his favorite being Joseph. At times he may appear unfair and shallow, but he is, more importantly, the prophet who recognizes the future and the calling of Joseph, thus saving the House of Israel. Joseph: Eleventh son of Jacob. Obviously his father’s favorite, Joseph early on shows a talent for interpreting dreams and telling the future. This gets him into trouble with his brothers when he predicts his future will include ruling over the other eleven. However, it saves his life when in Egypt he correctly interprets Pharaoh’s dreams. In the end he has risen to a great position of power, but he still forgives his brothers and brings his family to Egypt to partake of the bounty he has accumulated there. Potiphar: A powerful and rich Egyptian, Potiphar purchases Joseph and puts him to work in his household, where he soon realises that Joseph is honest, hard-working, and a great addition to his pool of help. When he grows suspicious of Mrs. Potiphar and Joseph, however, he grows angry and has Joseph thrown into prison. Mrs. Potiphar: Beautiful and scheming, Mrs. Potiphar tries to seduce Joseph, but is unsuccessful. However, she does manage to rip off much of his clothing just as her husband comes into the room, thus condemning him to prison. Also plays one of the wives. Baker: One of Pharaoh servants, the Baker is in prison with Joseph who correctly interprets his dreams and predicts that he will be put to death. Butler: Another of Pharaoh servants, the Butler is also in prison with Joseph who also correctly interprets his dreams, this time that he will be released and taken back into Pharaoh’s household. It is the Butler who tells Pharaoh about Joseph and his uncanny ability with dreams. Pharaoh: The most powerful man in Egypt, Pharaoh is considered a god on earth. When Joseph interprets his dreams, he promotes him to one of the highest positions in his government. In most productions, Pharaoh is portrayed as an Elvis Presley<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvis_Presley>-style figure. Reuben: Eldest son of Jacob. Takes the lead on “One More Angel in Heaven” Simeon: Second son of Jacob. Takes the lead on “Those Canaan Days” Levi: Third son of Jacob. Judah: Fourth son of Jacob. Takes the lead on “Benjamin Calypso”. Dan: Fifth son of Jacob. Naphtali: Sixth son of Jacob. Gad: Seventh son of Jacob. Asher: Eighth son of Jacob. Issachar: Ninth son of Jacob. Zebulun: Tenth son of Jacob. Benjamin: Twelfth son of Jacob. Joseph accuses him of stealing the golden cup. The Wives: The wives of Jacob. The actresses playing the wives also double as Egyptians and servants of Potiphar. Ishmaelites: Men of the desert, they buy Joseph as a slave, take him to Egypt, and sell him to Potiphar. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA, is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble is they find out that the relatives aren't nephews, but nieces! They don't let a little thing like that stop them, though.
