TalkBacks: Clybourne Park Discussion Panel CWRU/CPH MFA Acting Program Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 5 p.m.—after the matinee TalkBacks are regularly scheduled for patrons as an opportunity to delve deeper into the experience of the play. This will be a special panel discussion exploring diversity, urban planning, and dramaturgy. Panelists include: Ronnie A. Dunn, Ph.D. Dr. Ronnie A. Dunn is an associate professor of Urban Studies at the Maxine-Levin Goodman College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University. He is an urban sociologist whose teaching and research interests include issues affecting minorities and the urban poor, with a particular focus on race, crime, and the criminal justice system. His most recent publication, Boycotts, Busing, & Beyond: The History & Implications of School Desegregation in the Urban North (Kendall-Hunt Publishing, 2016), uses the Cleveland School Desegregation Case to examine the issue. Some of his other scholarly publications include Racial Profiling: Causes and Consequences (Kendall-Hunt Publishing, 2010), “The Marginalization and Criminalization of the Black Male Image in Postmodern in America” in the book Color Behind Bars (2014), and The Relevance of Race in Citizen Complaints Against the Police, in the journal Administrative Theory & Praxis (2010). It was his recommendation to two state legislators that led Governor John Kasich to establish a statewide commission on policing that led to the creation of The Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board, to which Dr. Dunn was appointed. He was also invited to and provided written testimony to the President’s Taskforce on 21st Century Policing and has travelled to Washington on several occasions to lobby legislators on Capitol Hill for reforms within the criminal justice system. Dr. Dunn is intimately involved in the efforts to address issues relative to race, policing, and community-police relations within the city of Cleveland, the state of Ohio, and the nation. Dr. Dunn serves as the chairman of the Board of Commissioners for the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, the oldest and 12th largest public housing agency in the nation. He is also chair of the Cleveland NAACP’s Criminal Justice Committee, as well as active in various professional and civic organizations. He is a frequently sought after commentator in the media and the community, and is an U.S. Air Force veteran. Megan Hatch, Ph.D. Megan Hatch is an Assistant Professor of Urban Policy and City Management at the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University. She has a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Public Administration from George Washington University and a Masters of Public Administration from Cornell University. She teaches courses on public policy development, urban policy, public administration, and statistics at Levin. Dr. Hatch's research focuses on the intersection of inequality, government redistribution, and social policies. Her research on redistribution focuses how spending and tax policy such as the Earned Income Tax Credit affect income inequality and health disparities. Her research on housing policy centers on rental housing, particularly the state and local laws that protect renters’ rights. Her current research in this area with colleagues at Levin centers on source of income discrimination, which is when landlords refuse to rent to prospective tenants because they receive a Housing Choice Voucher. Dr. Hatch is a relative newcomer to Cleveland, but she has already fallen in love with her new hometown because of its strong sense of community. *Beck Center will hold auditions for Paul Downs Colaizzo's much lauded "Really Really"~~~ loosely based on real events. * *The auditions will take place BY APPOINTMENT beginning Monday, Nov. 28th and continue through the audition dates. * *Auditions will take place on Monday, Dec. 12th and Tuesday Dec. 13th, with slots beginning at 6PM.Call 216-521-2540 x 10 <(216)%20521-2540>* *You my either prepare a brief contemporary monologue (preferred) or you may read from a side provided at the audition.* *Production dates for "Really Really" are June 2nd thru July 2nd, which includes 15 performances total---all Fri/Sat/Sun. The rehearsal process will begin no earlier than April 18th, and perhaps a bit later.* *There will be either 1 or 2 AEA contracts offered (Special Appearance--Tier one). All non-union actors 18 and over are compensated with a stipend. * *THE STORY:* An incident at an elite university’s campus party threatens to disrupt the lives of everyone involved as the stories about it are wildly different. The truth is hazy as all involved scramble to protect their own turf. *CASTING NOTE:* *All of the characters (except for Haley) attend an Ivy League university. All of these characters are smart and fast-talking. They are the leaders of tomorrow because of their privilege, connections and entitlement. All actors must look early to mid-20’s at the most. The characters are all college seniors except for Haley who is a little older. There are sexual situations in this play but no actual nudity.* *Leigh:* Woman. College senior. She is from a blue collar background and has had to fight for everything that she has achieved. She is confident on the outside but has many interior challenges to her self-esteem. She has been sexually and physically abused in her past. PERFORMER MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH SEXUAL BEHAVIOR (There is simulated sexual activity but audience view will be obstructed). NO NUDITY. *Davis:* Man. College senior. He presents as the ideal upstanding young man: successful, hard-working and disciplined. He’s good looking and athletic. On the rugby team. Yet beneath the nice guy exterior, there is huge rage. PERFORMER MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH SEXUAL BEHAVIOR (There is simulated sexual activity but audience view will be obstructed). NO NUDITY. *Grace:* Woman. College senior. She is a leader of tomorrow: disciplined, president of the Future Leaders of America. Honor roll. Funny and a church-going. Stands up for her roommate, Leigh. She has some direct to audience longer speeches. *Jimmy:* Man. College senior. Also on the Rugby team. Leigh’s boyfriend and above her in class and status. His father is on the board of the university, so he has privilege and influence. Used to be a womanizing partier, but then fell in love with Leigh. Currently in Christian therapy. Uses his father’s power as his own. *Must be comfortable with Sexual situation.* NO NUDITY. *Cooper:* Man. College senior. Another Rugby player. He’s into the Bromance with his college buddies. He’s on the 5 or 6 or 7 year plan. He is from a wealthy family. Likes a good party. *Must be comfortable with Sexual situation. NO NUDITY.* *Haley:* Woman. Leigh’s sister. She is the only character NOT in college. Always up for a good time, she sees a situation and willing to capitalize on it. A little rough around the edges. She is out of place in this college crowd. *Johnson:* Man. College senior. Another rugby player who does not want to screw up his future with any of the problems that the others get into. A little more serious. Although he is not crazy about parties, he is popular with women. Well rounded, uptight, goal-oriented. Fastidious, depressed, and vaguely neurotic, Felix seems suicidal, but as the action unfolds, Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born. Cleveland City Dance will be offering classes the last week of December These classes are geared toward pre-professional and professional dancers seeking to be in shape for upcoming auditions or to get in shape after a performing hiatus�� Tuesday, December 27: Conditioning with Pilates, Ballet, and Pointe�� Wednesday, December 28: Ballet and Pointe�� Thursday, December 29: Conditioning with Pilates, Ballet, and Pointe�� Friday, December 30: Ballet and Pointe� Conditioning with Pilates 9:00-9:55 am Intermediate/Advance Ballet 10:00-11:45 am.
