AUDITION NOTICE: "Lend Me a Tenor"

East Cleveland Theater (ECT) is hosting auditions for “Lend Me a Tenor”, written by Ken Ludwig. We are seeking 4 men and 4 women for this show. *Synopsis:* When a world class tenor comes to Cleveland, lives, loves, and relationships are turned upside down, resulting in a comedy farce that no one should miss. *The Roles:* *Henry Saunders*: The Cleveland Grand Opera's general manager. Father to Maggie. A blowhard who often loses his temper at the slightest mishap. *Max*: Saunders' long-suffering assistant, who is forced to take Tito's place in the role of Othello. *Maggie Saunders*: Saunders' daughter, and Max's girlfriend. She has a great admiration for Tito. *Tito Merelli*: The world's most renowned opera tenor, and notorious ladies man. *Maria*: Tito's long-suffering wife, with an "Italian temper". Leaves Tito early in the play, but ultimately returns to him. Loves Tito, despite his philandering. *Diana*: The opera's ingenue soprano, who is "flinging her way" to the top. A seductive woman (and she knows it). *Julia*: Chairwoman of the Cleveland Opera Guild, who considers herself a "grande dame." She wears a silver dress which, Saunders says, makes her look "like the Chrysler Building <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Building>." *The Bellhop*: A comic relief character who has an ongoing feud with Saunders. An obnoxious opera fan, the Bellhop keeps showing up at the hotel suite at the wrong moment, trying to get an autograph and a photo of Tito Merelli. Saunders ends up chasing the Bellhop around the hotel suite, and trying to strangle him. *Director: Megan Thompson* Megan Thompson is Executive Director of Great Lakes Light Opera, and has directed and performed in numerous shows. *Audition Dates:* Saturday, December 10, 2016, from 1 to 4pm. If you cannot make Saturday, please call anyway … we would like to know when you are available for an audition. *Show Dates:* Opening: Friday, May 05, 2017 Closing: Sunday, May 21, 2017 Shows on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 9 shows total Friday and Saturday shows start at 8pm Sunday shows start at 3pm *Rehearsals:* ECT typically has a six week rehearsal period. For this show that would mean rehearsals would typically begin the week of February 26, but that is not set in stone. Exact dates have not been discussed, and depend on the schedules of the cast and crew. If you are concerned, please show up at auditions and tell us your limitations. *Beck Center will hold auditions for Paul Downs Colaizzo's much lauded "Really Really"~~~ loosely based on real events. * *The auditions will take place BY APPOINTMENT beginning Monday, Nov. 28th. * *Auditions will take place on Monday, Dec. 12th and Tuesday Dec. 13th, with slots beginning at 6PM.Call 216-521-2540 x 10 <(216)%20521-2540>* *You may **either prepare a brief contemporary monologue (preferred) or you may read from a side provided at the audition.* *Production dates for "Really Really" are June 2nd thru July 2nd, which includes 15 performances total---all Fri/Sat/Sun. The rehearsal process will begin no earlier than April 25th, and perhaps a bit later.* *There will be either 1 or 2 AEA contracts offered (Special Appearance--Tier one). All non-union actors 18 and over are compensated with a stipend. * *THE STORY:* An incident at an elite university’s campus party threatens to disrupt the lives of everyone involved as the stories about it are wildly different. The truth is hazy as all involved scramble to protect their own turf. *CASTING NOTE:* *All of the characters (except for Haley) attend an Ivy League university. All of these characters are smart and fast-talking. They are the leaders of tomorrow because of their privilege, connections and entitlement. All actors must look early to mid-20’s at the most. The characters are all college seniors except for Haley who is a little older. There are sexual situations in this play but no actual nudity.* *Leigh:* Woman. College senior. She is from a blue collar background and has had to fight for everything that she has achieved. She is confident on the outside but has many interior challenges to her self-esteem. She has been sexually and physically abused in her past. PERFORMER MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH SEXUAL BEHAVIOR (There is simulated sexual activity but audience view will be obstructed). NO NUDITY. *Davis:* Man. College senior. He presents as the ideal upstanding young man: successful, hard-working and disciplined. He’s good looking and athletic. On the rugby team. NO NUDITY. *Grace:* Woman. College senior. She is a leader of tomorrow: disciplined, president of the Future Leaders of America. Honor roll. Funny and a church-going. Stands up for her roommate, Leigh. She has some direct to audience longer speeches. *Jimmy:* Man. College senior. Also on the Rugby team. Leigh’s boyfriend and above her in class and status. His father is on the board of the university, so he has privilege and influence. Used to be a womanizing partier, but then fell in love with Leigh. Currently in Christian therapy. Uses his father’s power as his own. *Must be comfortable with Sexual situation.* NO NUDITY. *Cooper:* Man. College senior. Another Rugby player. He’s into the Bromance with his college buddies. He’s on the 5 or 6 or 7 year plan. He is from a wealthy family. Likes a good party. *Must be comfortable with Sexual situation. NO NUDITY.* *Haley:* Woman. Leigh’s sister. She is the only character NOT in college. Always up for a good time, she sees a situation and willing to capitalize on it. A little rough around the edges. She is out of place in this college crowd. *Johnson:* Man. College senior. Another rugby player who does not want to screw up his future with any of the problems that the others get into. A little more serious. Although he is not crazy about parties, he is popular with women. Well rounded, uptight, goal-oriented. Fruitcakes, a Christmas Comedy, Running December 2-18 at GLTG!

Fruitcakes, a Christmas Comedy Directed by Patrica Osredkar Imagine a small town where everyone knows everyone’s business, everyone gathers for events, and holidays are a mixture of fun and stress. Many folks in and out of Geauga county can imagine (live) this scenario, and those of who don’t can well enjoy watching the drama play out in* Fruitcakes*, a Christmas comedy at Geauga Lyric Theater this December 2 through the 18th. Two unmarried sisters who share a house but can’t stand each other, need to work together every Christmas to carry on the fruitcake baking tradition of supplying the townspeople with everyone’s favorite baked good. But their mother willed each only half of the recipe, and neither sister is willing to share. Add to their shenanigans a fruitcake snitching runaway, a lost cat, a Christmas hog named Buster, a bustling Christmas tree lot, a chicken pox epidemic, and so much more…a recipe for holiday fun! Tickets are $8 for children, $13 for students and seniors and $15 for adults. On December 3, for only an additional $10 ticket, attend* Fruitcakes* *Festive Fundraiser* at GLTG’s Art Center across the street at 106 Water St. There, before the show, enjoy wine and appetizers (juice for the kids!), and bid on a special raffle basket, mystery boxes for kids AND adults, and a holiday singalong.
