Ella does not allowher step family's demeaning treatment of her to make her feel inferior. Beneathher rags and quiet demeanor, she is charismatic, beautiful and funny; idealisticand hopeful. Her passion to help others captures the attention of Alexander. Alexander(Male, 16-26) is a warm and sensitive young man without pretensions. He is inno hurry to marry, preferring to find a bride in his own time. Despite hismisgivings about the ball his father has planned, he goes along with it so asnot to hurt his feelings. When he meets Ella for the second time in one day,her insight is enough to make him realize that she is different from allothers. MadameArrington (Female, 20’s-50’s) Ella’s selfish stepmother; the epitome of vanityand fashion; a ravenous social climber who values wealth, status, and materialpossessions above all else. Self-absorbed and focused on the needs of her owndaughters at Ella’s expense. She tends to ignore Ella unless she needssomething done. She does not pay enough attention to Ella to see her goodqualities and is self-deluded about the qualities of her own daughters. Esmerelda(Female, 16-26 years old) Sour & awkward. Prudence (Female, 16-26 years old) Dim-witted and squeaky. Ella’s stepsisters. Like their mother, their attitudes toward Ella areindifferent and inconsiderate rather than downright cruel. They think of her asa nuisance unless she’s doing chores. They are also somewhat resentful of her goodnature. They can be brash, self-centered, materialistic, loud, sassy, andbratty, and have a ridiculously high, but unfounded opinion of themselves. FairyGodmother (Female / 20’s-40’s) A magical and protective Godmother that shows upjust in time, to change Ella’s life with her magic. Godmother, who ispersonally assigned to Ella challenges Ella's notions of wishes and dreams, andlends her magical assistance to give her an unforgettable night. TheKing /Ella’s Father (Male, Age 30’s-50’s) Ella’s proud father / Good-naturedKing who is on a mission to see his son walk in his footsteps to become thefuture King, and find the perfect bride along the way. With concern about hisson’s happiness, the King arranges a ball at the Palace, in an effort to help Alexandermeet this special girl. Catherine(Girl, 8-12) Charming and sweet girl who befriends Ella, and occasionally meetsher in the forest, where she is teaching her to read. Through books and thecompanionship of her friendship, Ella brings a world of adventure to this lessfortunate girl. Nicholas(Boy, 8-12) Curious and adventurous boy who befriends Ella, and occasionallymeets her in the forest, where she is teaching him to read. North Pointe Ballet presents Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" December 9- December 11 North Pointe Ballet brings the holiday classic to life featuring a cast of professional dancers, high-quality theatrical effects, and live narration to make it easy-to-understand for the whole family. Young Clara finds herself in a battle between her toy Nutcracker and the Mouse King, then is taken on a magical journey through the Lands of Snow and Sweets to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy. Performances are Dec. 9 and 10 at 7:30pm and Dec. 10 and 11 at 2:30pm at the beautiful Hope Community Church Auditorium in Olmsted Falls, formerly Olmsted Performing Arts Center. Late Nite Catechism January 27, 2017 at 7:30pm Canton Palace Theatre Late Nite Catechism is, an uproarious piece of theater that takes audience members back - sometimes nostalgically, sometimes fearfully to the children they once were. The irrepressible Sister teaches an adult catechism cla...ss to a roomful of "students" (the audience). Over the course of the play, Sister goes from benevolent instructor, rewarding the "students" for correct answers with glow-in-the-dark rosaries and laminated saint cards, to authoritative drill sergeant. These abrupt mood swings are bound to strike a resonant chord with everyone who survived the ups and downs of going to school, with an omniscient authoritarian at the helm. The Catholic Register (Toronto) said, "The show appeals to Catholics and non-Catholics alike since 'Sister' clearly explains religious references in lighthearted ways while maintaining a serious tone that isn't too preachy and far from being saccharine."
