The opera features a children's chorus and children's chorus members will be featured in the ensemble and crowd scenes. This is a rare opportunity to perform in a professional opera production. Throughout March, the children's chorus will receive masterclasses in acting, movement and stagecraft as well as intensive music rehearsals before joining the professional cast in rehearsals in April. Concrete Fruit is a short play about a cop who is in an interracial marriage whose son gets killed by his partner. It explores the current civil rights debate/ American dilemma of the racial inequity of the police force, as well as about those brave enough to challenge the system. It is produced as apart of Ensemble Theatre's Content Of Character festival, commemorating the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech, along with their concurrent productions of "Slow Dance On The Killing Ground" and "Golden Leaf Ragtime Blues." Directed by Michael Oatman. Dynamics Community Theater of Tallmadge is accepting resumes for the PAID position of STAGE DIRECTOR for their summer musical production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Dynamics is an intergenerational theater founded in 1993 through a seed grant given to the Tallmadge City Schools. Although no longer part of the school district, Dynamics maintains a working relationship and continues to hold performances in the high school’s 628 seat auditorium. Those interested should be available for auditions to be held in May, rehearsals - typically Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings, with occasional Saturday mornings, Tech rehearsals, and all performances. Durang One-Acts open at Tri-C West Tomorrow 2-24

The Tri-C Western Campus Theatre presents Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All for You and The Actor's Nightmare by Christopher Durang on February 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th at 8 pm and February 28th at 2 pm. There is also a matinee performance on February 25th at 10:30 am which is open to the public. These shows are directed by West Theatre Coordinator, Bob Ellis and assistant directed by Christine Fallon. About the Plays: Sister Mary Ignatius Explains it all for You - Sister Mary Ignatius, a teaching nun who is much concerned with sin in all of its various forms, delivers a cautionary lecture to her charges. One of them, a precocious little boy named Thomas, can quote the Ten Commandments on cue, and each time he does so Sister Mary rewards him with a cookie. But when several of her former students turn up the picture darkens, along with Sister Mary's indignation. One of them is the happy mother of an illegitimate child; another a contented homosexual; still another has had two abortions-the first after having been raped on the night of her mother's death; while another student, now an alcoholic, contemplates suicide. Their stories are disturbing-but also very funny-and it is quickly apparent that one thing they all have in common is their loathing for Sister Mary and the unyielding dogma which she forced on them in their formative years. In the end there is mayhem and bloodshed but, with this, the unsettling feeling that, amid the laughter, some devastating truths have been told. Apparently no one is sure of what play is being performed but George (costumed as Hamlet) seems to find himself in the middle of a scene from Private Lives, surrounded by such luminaries as Sarah Siddons, Dame Ellen Terry and Henry Irving. As he fumbles through one missed cue after another the other actors shift to Hamlet, then a play by Samuel Beckett, and then a climactic scene from what might well be A Man for All Seasons-by which time the disconcerted George has lost all sense of contact with his fellow performers. Yet, in the closing moments of the play, he rises to the occasion and finally says the right lines, whereupon make-believe suddenly gives way to reality as the executioner's axe (meant for Sir Thomas Moore) instead sends poor George to oblivion-denying him a well-earned curtain call. The Manhattan Project is a low-stakes, nonthreatening place for actors and playwrights to meet and work together. Based on the Theatre Lab model taught at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and inspired by The Brooklyn Generator in New York, The Manhattan Project wants to introduce Cleveland actors and playwrights to each other by organizing a bi-monthly production of brand new 10-minute plays. Participating artists will meet early in the month and will be broken into teams, each with one playwright. The playwright will then be given a writing prompt to write a new 10-minute play based on the prompt and including all the team's actors. The rest of the evening the team members will get to know each other and get a feel for each other's skills and voices. The teams will reconvene later in the month to perform these plays for each other. These 10-minute plays are not an end in themselves. Through these small collaborations we hope to build relationships between the two most vulnerable artists in theatre; the actors who put themselves on stage and the playwrights who pour themselves onto the page. Perhaps these 10-minute plays will grow into longer works or maybe these collaborations will become partnerships on larger projects.
