Auditions for “Backstage” at Theatre 8:15 (4740 Massillon Road Green, Ohio 44343) will take place Monday, April 18th and Tuesday, April 19th @ 6-8 PM (you will only need to come ONE of those days) EMAIL EITHER THE THEATRE (info(a)theatre815.com) OR THE DIRECTOR (katielizabeth14(a)gmail.com) TO LET THE DIRECTOR KNOW YOU’LL BE THERE! What is “Backstage”? We all know that the real drama in a theatre takes place backstage and creates quite a comedy to watch! This has never been more true than at Theatre Baroque, where the star, one-time matinee idol Burton Cavendish, suddenly dies an hour before the premiere of “Don Juan in Cleveland.” Once it is discovered that Cavendish has passed away, Lou, the director, calls on Ajax, the understudy, to fill in. But Ajax must play Cavendish both on and off stage, and he can’t tell anyone — not even his own mother! It is to be the great star’s last performance... and Ajax’s greatest performance ever. He reluctantly agrees, only to face nasty critics, doting mothers and one very large goon sent to collect a bundle from the great actor. Ajax even has to fool his own mother, who shows up backstage to say hello to Ajax and meet the famous Cavendish! (Little does she know she achieves both of those goals at one time!) Lines and plot twists fly as fast as you’ll sell tickets in this theatrical farce where over-the-hill prima donnas reign — or think they do — and most of the rest of the cast is betting on who comes out on top. What will you have to do at the audition? You will be just reading from the script acted upon a cold read. No need to prepare anything. When are the performance dates? BALLET CLEVELAND YOUTH COMPANY OPEN AUDITION DATE - SUNDAY, MAY 15, 2016 The Dancers' Studio at Oberlin (TDSO) the official school of Ohio Dance Theatre is holding open auditions for all serious dancers for the BCYC 2016-17 season. Ballet is the focus of the youth company but dancers also perform in other styles. All Dancers ages 13-19 are welcome to audition regardless of studio affiliation. Dancers must pre-register by going to thedancersstudioatoberlin and fill out the audition form. AUDITION DATES AND TIMES Sunday, May 15 at 1:00-2:30 pm, Ages 13-19 Mandatory Parent Meeting 2:30pm AUDITION LOCATION The Dancers' Studio at Oberlin 3rd Floor Studio 39 South Main, Street Oberlin, OH 44074 Dancers should arrive 15 minutes early to check in. Dancers should bring pointe shoes. Ballet Cleveland Youth Company provides dancers with opportunities to share their talents through outreach performances, in-studio presentations and theater performances. Members of the Ballet Cleveland Youth Company rehearse on Saturday afternoons. Performance opportunities for the 2015-16 season included Spooktacular in Oberlin, excerpts from the Nutcracker at Stan Hywet Hall in Akron, the Nutcracker in Ambridge PA, ODT's Nutcracker at the Stocker Arts Center in Elyria, the All Ohio Dance Festival and more. Applicants do not have to be students of The Dancers' Studio but if selected, must request that their home studio sign off monthly to confirm that they are taking the required number of classes/week to perform with the youth company. Touring jukebox musical ‘Beautiful’ is aptly named Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics As biographical jukebox musicals go, the 2014 Tony Award-winning "Beautiful” is some kind of wonderful for a whole lot of reasons. Currently on tour and on stage at Playhouse Square, "Beautiful” is about the life, times and tunes of Carole King (Abby Mueller), who Billboard magazine named the most successful and influential female songwriter of the last half-century. She’s written or co-written over 400 songs that have been recorded by over 1000 artists, including the Drifters (“Up on the Roof”), the Shirelles (“Will You Love Me Tomorrow”), and Aretha Franklin “((You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”). Most middle-aged theatergoers in attendance would agree with Billboard’s designation, for Carole King classics have surely contributed to the soundtrack of their lives. It’s been said that the sign of a good musical is when patrons are humming the songs on the way out. “Beautiful” patrons are singing the songs on the way in.
