*“FIDDLER ON THE ROOF” * *BEGINS HATHAWAY BROWN THEATRE INSTITUTE’S **2016 SEASON * *July 1-10, 2016* *Don’t miss this musical theatre “tradition”* *that has been delighting audiences for over fifty years* SHAKER HEIGHTS, OHIO – Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute begins its 2016 summer season of hits with one of the greatest musicals of all time, the acclaimed *FIDDLER ON THE ROOF**, presented at Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, from July 1 to 10.* Winner of nine TONY Awards when it debuted in 1964, *FIDDLER ON THE ROOF* is the brainchild of Broadway legends Jerome Robbins, Harold Prince, songwriters Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, and book writer Joseph Stein. Touching audiences worldwide with its humor, warmth and honesty, this universal show is a staple of the musical theatre canon. Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor dairyman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, *FIDDLER ON THE ROOF’s* universal theme of adapting to change cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays, July 1, 2, 7, 8, 9 at 7:30 pm; and Sundays, July 3 and 10 at 2:00 PM. The show is presented at the Hathaway Brown School, 19600 North Park Blvd., Shaker Heights, Ohio 44122. Directed and choreographed by Bebe Weinberg Katz, FIDDLER will also feature musical direction by John Krol, stage combat by Ryan Zarecki, set design by Ron Newell, costumes by Jacqueline Guerra, sound design by Carlton Guc and lighting design by Kaedra Lynn. FIDDLER ON THE ROOF boasts a cast of some of the most talented student performers in NE Ohio. Now in its fourth year, The Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute was created by the Performing Arts Department of the Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights for students 1stgrade – college. HBTI offers coursework in drama, dance and music. HBTI provides high-level training from working artists to young people interested in the performing arts, as well as professional-level production experiences. Students of HBTI's faculty of professional artists have gone on to perform on Broadway, in regional theatre, in film and on television. On Saturday, September 10, 2016 CPT will present its annual fundraising extravaganza and "Party of the Year" - Pandemonium '16: The Fire Within. Featuring dozens of area theatre, dance, visual and performance artists and with fabulous food and drink, Pandemonium '16 is a benefit like no other and an opportunity for you to be a featured artist. The Pandemonium production team is seeking proposals from extraordinary theatre, music, performance poetry, dance, visual and multimedia artists. Pandemonium '16 is a benefit event and all proceeds go to support Cleveland Public Theatre's mission on stage and in the community: creating and presenting challenging and inspiring performance work, ensuring that emerging artists and small performance companies have opportunities to participate in the arts, and sustain CPT's work with urban youth and adults in transition. The Broadview Heights Spotlights Theater is seeking male and female actors who are able to develop many different characters of all age ranges for its upcoming adult comedy, *Talk Radio* by Eric Bogosian. Auditions will be *Sunday, July 10, from 3:00 – 5:00PM* and *Monday, July 11, from 7:00 PM to 9:00PM*, and will be held at the Cultural Arts Building, Home of the Spotlights Theater, 9543 Broadview Road (Broadview Center property, next to the Police Department). Those auditioning should plan to attend the entire two hours of either day and bring a list of conflicts between July 31 and October 1. Potential cast must be available for weekend performances between September 16 – October 1, 2016. The show will be directed by *Rose Leininger*. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Christmas in... June?!?! On December 16th, 2016, Anekdotë Productions is presenting a holiday-themed cabaret at the Ernsthausen Performing Arts Center, in Norwalk, OH. Thus, we are looking for strong, talented performers to fill our set list. Note that tentative rehearsals will begin towards the end of October. For the show, performers that are cast will be paid. Please prepare 32 bars of ANY holiday themed piece that demonstrates as much of your vocal ability as possible. At auditions, you may bring sheet music for an accompanist, or you can sing a capella. Pieces MUST be memorized. Auditions will be held June 28th at the Huron Public Library, Room A. There will be signs posted with directions to the room.
