Looking for a MALE who can play 20s-early 30s for A Christmas Carol by Doris Baizley based on the classic novella by Charles Dickens Directed by Chris Bizub Performances: December 1-17 Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm Rehearsals: Sun-Thur 7-10 starting Oct 23rd Character to be cast: YOUNG LEADING MAN (Fred) – Male, 20s-early 30s Synopsis: A company of traveling players are about to enact the Dickens story. The gruff stage manager and prop boy check the show's props, which are shabby and third rate, but the troupe improvises by creating a magical world of make-believe. The acting troupe soon discovers that the actors playing Scrooge and Tiny Tim have abandoned the tour; but the show must go on, and the prop boy eagerly volunteers for the part of Tim while the cynical stage manager must be forcibly drafted to play the old miser. The troupe proceeds to make their way through the tale, creating fog, snow, fire and ghosts through mime, imagination and wonderful visual effects. The rag tag players (including the stage manager and prop boy) quickly become the characters of the story, and we are pulled into the life of Ebenezer Scrooge. The Christmas Spirits work their magic and warm the heart of Scrooge, as well as the old stage manager. This play is an inventive telling of the famous classic that is sure to warm everyone's hearts just in time for Christmas! Stocker Arts Center Hosts SHUFFLE Concert Lorain County Community College's Stocker Arts Center will present a SHUFFLE concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27 in the Hoke Theatre of Stocker Arts Center. Hailed by The New York Times as "a gateway drug to classical music," the six-member chamber ensemble, SHUFFLE concert, is on its way to becoming an international phenomenon. A SHUFFLE concert engages the audience by letting guests choose what music the group will play. The musical menu offers selections from baroque to Broadway and just about everything in between. With a new "mix" every time, SHUFFLE Concert captivates audiences by combining fun and adventure with the highest musical professionalism. Visit www.shuffleconcert.com to learn more. SHUFFLE is a part of the Stocker Performing Artists Series. We hope to see you all there! What exactly is The Manhattan Project - Cleveland Lab? The Manhattan Project is a low-stakes, nonthreatening place for actors and playwrights to meet and work together. Based on the Theatre Lab model taught at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and inspired by The Brooklyn Generator in New York, The Manhattan Project wants to introduce Cleveland actors and playwrights to each other by organizing a bi-monthly production of brand new 10-minute plays. Participating artists will meet early in the month and will be broken into teams, each with one playwright. The playwright will then be given a writing prompt to write a new 10-minute play based on the prompt and including all the team's actors. The rest of the evening the team members will get to know each other and get a feel for each other's skills and voices. The teams will reconvene later in the month to perform these plays for each other. These 10-minute plays are not an end in themselves. Through these small collaborations we hope to build relationships between the two most vulnerable artists in theatre; the actors who put themselves on stage and the playwrights who pour themselves onto the page. Perhaps these 10-minute plays will grow into longer works or maybe these collaborations will become partnerships on larger projects.
