We are currently casting roles for our low budget feature film, ‘My Summer In Ohio’. PLOT: A recent college graduate named Samantha moves to a town near Cleveland with the goal of returning a notebook to someone. Before she can, her house is broken into and along with all of her money, the notebook is stolen. This puts her on a mission to find her stolen property and return the notebook to its original owner. Casting the following roles for credit only: BOBBY Male, age 18-21. Close friend of Nate's. Calm and relaxed. Very willing to help Nate achieve his summer goals. (for credit only) BEN Male, age 18-21. He is Bobby's younger brother and a close friend of Nate's. He is the Ohio version of a surfer dude. Wears sunglasses all the time. (for credit only) POLICE OFFICER Male or Female, age 35+ Serious police officer. All business. In charge of investigating the home burglary that sets the story in motion. (for credit only.) HARRIET Female. 60+ Grandmother of a main character. She offers advice while operating her yard sale or while building a time machine from parts she bought off a website. (for credit only.) PROTESTING FATHER Male, age 35-55 Spends his free time protesting the movie The Da Vinci Code with his family. Will be filmed in approximately 4-5 hours. (for credit only.) MS. CALHOUN Female. Age 40-60. Mother to one of the main characters. She is still dealing with the death of one of her sons. Minimal dialogue. (for credit only) GARBAGE PICKER Male or Female, age 35+ Drives the streets in his/her pickup truck searching for aluminum to scrap. Has a confrontation with the Samantha when she is caught collecting aluminum. Wears camouflage and is covered in dirt. No dialogue for this role. Will be filmed in approximately 4-5 hours. (for credit only) MULLET #1 Male, age 18+ The leader of a group of men with 80s style haircuts. Enemies of Samantha, the main character. (In a perfect world, this actor would actually have a mullet haircut. If not, a Wig would be provided) (for credit only.) FULLET #1 Female, age 35+ A caring mother with a 1980's style haircut. (the fullet is a female version of the mullet) approx filming time is 1-3 hours. (for credit only) GARY Male, age 18+ Works at a record store. Confronts a lead character and advises her to leave the store immediately. Filming will take approximately 2-3 hours. (for credit only) Filming will take place in the Cleveland area throughout July and August but not during the 9am-5pm monday-friday hours). We will be holding auditions on Saturday April 29 and Wednesday May 3rd at Parma Library. CVLT's "Sex with Strangers" to Open this Weekend CHAGRIN FALLS, OHIO - On April 21, 2017, the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre will present the play, *Sex with Strangers*, under the helm of director Kourtney Daugherty. Performances will run April 21 to May 6 on Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 8:00 p.m. There will also be a Sunday Matinee on April 30 at 2:00 p.m. The show will be performed at CVLT’s River Street Playhouse on 56 River St - west of the main CVLT building. The play, written by Laura Eason, a writer for the hit Netflix show, *House of Cards* is focused on lust, love, and the complex nature of identity in the digital age. When twenty-something star sex blogger and memoirist Ethan tracks down his idol, the gifted but obscure forty-ish novelist Olivia, he finds they each crave what the other possesses. As attraction turns to sex, and they inch closer to getting what they want, both must confront the dark side of ambition and the trouble of reinventing oneself when the past is only a click away. Director Kourtney Daugherty, a valued regular performer, stage manager, and jack of all trades at CVLT, is stepping into new territory in this role. While she co-directed the 2016 *10-10 Festival* and was the sole director of CVLT’s *Murder by the Falls*, this will be the first time she has been selected to do a regular production with the theater, currently in its 87th season. “While the show's title, *Sex with Strangers*, made me take notice, the content is what kept me interested,” Kourtney explains. “It's not just about watching two people engage in intimacy onstage. It's about what happens when their fantasies become reality. She adds, “the show takes the time to focus on what happens when these two people with mutual interests and obvious chemistry explore the possibility, even if just an illusion, of a real relationship, all while dealing with their own personal baggage and the exposure of one of their checkered pasts.” A newcomer to CVLT, Joe Kenderes will play 'Ethan.' Joe most recently has been seen in Blank Canvas Theatre’s *39 Steps* as 'Hannay' and Medina Show Biz’s *...Spelling Bee* as 'Panch.' He is also a founding member and performer for the Laughter League sketch comedy troupe. Christy Wright will play 'Olivia.' She was last seen as 'Alex' in *Kid Like Jake* at Weathervane Playhouse and has graced the stages of Theater 8:15, Stow Players, CVLT, Western Reserve Playhouse, and Wolfcreek Players, among others. The producer for this production is Laurel Bryant, with Tom Boehringer as stage manager, and Marissa Gelender running the light and sound board. Put on your finest ballgown or suit and join us there! What exactly is The Manhattan Project - Cleveland Lab? The Manhattan Project is a low-stakes, nonthreatening place for actors and playwrights to meet and work together. Based on the Theatre Lab model taught at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and inspired by The Brooklyn Generator in New York, The Manhattan Project wants to introduce Cleveland actors and playwrights to each other by organizing a bi-monthly production of brand new 10-minute plays. Participating artists will meet early in the month and will be broken into teams, each with one playwright. The playwright will then be given a writing prompt to write a new 10-minute play based on the prompt and including all the team's actors. The rest of the evening the team members will get to know each other and get a feel for each other's skills and voices. The teams will reconvene later in the month to perform these plays for each other. These 10-minute plays are not an end in themselves. Through these small collaborations we hope to build relationships between the two most vulnerable artists in theatre; the actors who put themselves on stage and the playwrights who pour themselves onto the page. Perhaps these 10-minute plays will grow into longer works or maybe these collaborations will become partnerships on larger projects. George has written many plays including "Grounded". Grounded received the 2016 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo Production for its production at the Public Theatre and has featured amazing performances from actresses around the country including Oscar winning actress Anne Hathaway. The play is also being developed into a feature film starring Hathaway.The episode starts with a story about connecting my visceral fear of elevators to a deep respect of chaos and fragility that I think humanity sometimes ignores.
