Canal Fulton Players- Auditions for The Importance of Being Earnest

Oscar Wilde’s romantic comedy of deception and chicanery, The Importance of Being Earnest, will be presented by the Canal Fulton Players on August 18-20, 25-27, 2017 at a new venue. Yoga Central is located at 4626 Cleveland Avenue North, Canton, Ohio and gives the players a new perspective as to the presentation of comedies. Given a large room with a raised stage and numerous doors to enter and exit, the Players are excited in presenting this play in which two men assume th...e same identity to deceive the general public and loved ones. As the chicanery unravels, they employ other devices to obtain their goals only to find that their loved ones and others use deception to thwart them. Auditions will be held on June 27-28 at Yoga Central, 4626 Cleveland Avenue North, Canton, Ohio at 7:00 pm each night. All auditioners should be ready to read from the script. The parts are all open and the auditions are open. The roles are: • John Worthing, a prime proper landowner who goes to the city to have fun • Algernon Moncrieff, a bohemian type who loves to have a good time • Rev. KARAMU SUMMER ARTS CONTINUES! Summer Arts at Karamu July 5 - August 4 Karamu House continues to strengthen its commitment to cultivating community engagement by hosting a diverse arts intensive this summer. Karamu House is now enrolling for the second session of Summer Arts at Karamu, a performance-based, arts intensive that runs from July 5 through August 4, 2017. Students will receive focused instruction in dance, drama, vocal music, creative writing and visual arts led by professional artists. Classes will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm (with breakfast being served at 8:30 am). All classes will be held at Karamu House located at 2355 East 89th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44106. The programming is available for children in grades 3 through 12 and each session will culminate with a youth production. Tuition for students will cover weekly sessions, as well as healthy breakfast, lunch and snack. Financial assistance is available for families. VERB BALLETS PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Jen Garlando- Community Engagement jgarlando(a)verbballets.org Choreographer Tommie-Waheed Evans to Create New Work on Verb Ballets Verb Ballets to debut new work for its summer season CLEVELAND, OH - It is with great excitement that Verb Ballets hosts guest choreographer Tommie-Waheed Evans in-studio from June 26-30, 2017. Evans danced with PHILADANCO! and Complexions Contemporary Ballet before starting his own company Waheed Works in 2006. Evans recently finished a Choreographic Fellowship for Ballet X and was selected nationally as an emerging leader by Dance/USA. The Dance Journal described his work as, “vocabulary is deeply rooted in a classical ballet aesthetic blended with modern sensibilities and jazz influences.” Evans strives to create work built upon the human experience to connect audiences through a fierce physical language while communicating statements about social justice. Verb Ballets will debut Evans' new work for its upcoming summer season at performances including Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival on July 28-29, Tremont's Arts in August on August 12 and Cain Park on August 19. In 2013 Evans' created Dark Matter on Verb Ballets that audiences and critics alike enjoyed. This intensely driven physical work was set to a score comprised of a mix of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor with sounds of shattering glass and African drum rhythms. The dance was complemented by the stage design with hanging fluorescent light bulbs that were rhythmically controlled providing a breathtaking visual effect. This audience favorite will return to the stage throughout the 2017-18 season. Tommie-Waheed Evans, Choreographer Tommie-Waheed Evans began his formal training with Michelle Blossom at the Dance Connection in Los Angeles California. He continued his studies under the mentorship of Andrea Calomee and Karen McDonald at Hamilton High School before receiving a fellowship at the Ailey School. As a student, Evans performed the work of Matthew Rushing, Benoit-Swan Pouffer, Karol Armitage, and Debbie Allen. He was an assistant to current artistic director of Ailey II, Troy Powell. Evans professional appearances include the popular sitcom "The Parkers", the Emmy Awards, HopeBoykinDance, Radio City Christmas Spectacular, Lula Washington Dance Theater, the Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco) and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. In 2006 he founded his company, Waheed-Works. Evans has set choreography on The Garden State Dance Festival, Philadelphia Dance Boom Festival, Grace Dance Theater, Verb Ballets, Eleone Dance Theatre, and Boston Conservatory. Evans is the Artist-in-Residence at PHILADANCO! and is currently on faculty at the University of the Arts. Magnificat High School to produce CATS in fall 2017

CATS! Magnificat High School's Performing Arts Department is excited to announce it will be producing the legendary musical *CATS* in the fall of 2017. Based on T.S. Eliot's “Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats,” Andrew Lloyd Webber’s *CATS* is the winner of numerous awards including two Oliviers, a Grammy, and seven Tony awards including Best Musical. *CATS* tells the imaginative story of the annual gathering of the Jellicle cats, where one of them will be chosen to ascend to the Heaviside Layer to be reborn. Through song and dance, each cat tries to show the wise elder, Old Deuteronomy, that they are the most worthy of a new life.
