WILDLY OUTRAGEOUS “NEIGHBORS” OPENS NEXT FRI, JULY 7 AT CONVERGENCE-CONTINUUM -Ohio premiere of Neighbors by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, directed by Terrence Spivey- In parts blackface minstrel show, family drama and tragic farce, NEIGHBORS takes racial rage head-on in our supposedly “post-racial” world with shocking, savage humor. This outrageously provocative and controversial play by MacArthur genius award winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins is directed by Terrence Spivey (director of last year’s con-con production of Bootycandy). Classics professor Richard Patterson is not happy. The family of black entertainers that has moved in next door is an embarrassment—loud, raucous, tacky, shameless and obscene. They’re not just taking over the neighborhood—they’re infiltrating his perfect, interracial family and his perfect, post-racial sanity. In its scathing exploration of denial and its satire of black entertainment from blackface minstrelsy to hip-hop, NEIGHBORS is a shocking, explosive, hilarious and wildly theatrical play. NEIGHBORS opens next Fri, July 7 and runs Thurs-Sat at 8 pm through July 29 at the Liminis Theater, 2438 Scranton Rd, Cleveland 44113 in the historic Tremont neighborhood. Audition Notice for (In)Dependent: The Heroin Project performed by Akron Civic Theatre's Millennial Theatre Project. There will be two performances - August 4 & 5, 2017 at 8:00 PM, at the Akron Civic Theatre. Roles that need to be filled: Darla and Michael Darla should be a middle aged woman or could be an older looking Millennial. She is a sweet, caring mother, who is very supportive, but constantly worries about her son relapsing. She's crafty, fun, and soft spoken, but can be a mama bear to her cub when she senses danger. Michael should be a middle aged man or could be an older looking Millennial. He is very stoic, stoned face, has anger issues, and has become normalized to this epidemic. He works long hours, so he is constantly tired and a grump, but will show his softer side when he understands what he's done wrong. MusicEducation Coordinator will help to develop, implement and evaluate new,affordable opportunities for community members to participate in BSMA’s musiceducation programming, such as musicianship classes, ensembles of various sizesand performances. Current programming takes place offsite through active and growingcommunity partnerships and at BSMA’s facility (private lessons, youth drum corps).Reports to Executive Director. Key Responsibilities include: · Create,facilitate and promote new ensemble learning opportunities involving currentand future BSMA instrumental music students, instructors and other communitymembers, in response to documented needs, interest and resources. · Develop, pilotand promote free musicianship classes, working closely with BSMA instructors. · Scheduleand coordinate BSMA music students to perform in the community solo and/or inensembles, working with parents and others to facilitate transportation. Fieldother community requests for performances by BSMA students. · Developseries of educational music concerts to be presented at BSMA and other Slavic Village venues, workingwith partners such as Cleveland Institute of Music CommunityOutreach program, and Cleveland International Piano Competition’s ArtsConnect program, and others. · Updateand maintain BSMA’s inventory of teaching instruments; monitor storage, tuningsand repairs, and locate additional instruments as needed (either throughdonation or purchase). · Help todevelop and implement evaluation of new ensembles and music classes. Preferred Qualifications: · Bachelor’s degree in music or music education. · At least 2 years administrative experience,preferably at the program level in a community-basedarts organization. · Attentive to detail, flexible andcapable of juggling multiple priorities. · Strong oral, written and interpersonalcommunications skills. · Ability to embrace and championmusic education within a broad range of musical forms, from traditional to contemporary, as well as within adiverse community setting. · Ability to establish effectiveand professional working relationships with diverse populations as well as non-arts sector organizations andindividuals with varying levels ofexpertise and perspectives. · Direct music teaching experience is a plus.
