Auditions for "Scotland Road" Sunday, July 30th at 7PM & Monday, July 31st at 7PM Co-Artistic Director Brian Westerley directs this suspenseful thriller. Casting: Winifred - Female - 25-35 John - Male - 30-45 (The roles of Dr. Halbrech & Frances Kittle have been cast.) Actors will be asked to read from the script. In the last decade of the twentieth century, a beautiful young woman is found floating on an iceberg in the middle of the North Atlantic. When rescued, she says only one word: Titanic. The woman, Winifred, is taken to an isolated spot on the coast of Maine where an expert on the sinking of the liner, a mysterious man named John, has arranged to interrogate her for six days. His goal: to crack her story, get her to confess she's a fake, and reveal her true identity; his one clue: her enigmatic references to an unknown place called "Scotland Road." In a stark, white room John, assisted by a skeptical doctor named Halbrech, plays a cat-and-mouse game with Winifred, probing and searching for ways to break her down. But Winifred is a formidable opponent, and as John is drawn closer to her, he becomes desperate. As time runs out, Halbrech tracks down the last, living survivor of the disaster, a reclusive old woman named Frances Kittle who has lived in seclusion for seventy-five years. Miss Kittle is brought to meet Winifred to test her, but the tables turn when Winifred recalls an earlier confrontation with Miss Kittle, one that took place on board the fated liner the night is sank, three quarters of a century before. By the play's end, one of the characters is dead, all the character's identities have been questioned, and John and Winifred's shared secret is revealed as they make one final journey to Scotland Road. Cleveland Method Acting (CMA), led by Emmy nominated TV and Film Director Eric Swinderman, is now accepting students for the upcoming 4 week program. The classes are centered around The Sanford Meisner Technique, also known as THE METHOD. Through the Meisner system, the actor becomes fearless and gains a strong confidence that can be applied to all areas of life. The four week class helps the young actor develop a love for the work, and with this, the ability to survive and work as an actor. Using a series of sensory memory exercises the actor will work on a single piece of work for 4 weeks learning how to look at the work from different angles and explore how the method can help the work evolve into a living breathing scene. Review of "Newsies" at Porthouse Theatre

Porthouse’s ‘Newsies’ performs above the fold Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics Disney’s “Newsies” is ever-so loosely based on a true story, which was first turned into a popular 1992 Disney live-action film and, later, a stage production with revised music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and book by Harvey Fierstein. The show premiered on Broadway in 2012, where it won Tony Awards for Best Choreography and Best Original Score. Those awards – and the lack of others – speak volumes, for the show’s explosive dancing, dynamic anthems like “Seize the Day,” “The World Will Know” and “Carrying the Banner,” and hummable numbers like “King of New York” are its most defining and entertaining features. This reality has been recognized by Porthouse director Terri Kent and fully realized by musical director Jonathan Swoboda’s wonderful 11-piece orchestra and MaryAnn Black’s athletic, ballet-based choreography, which pays homage to Christopher Gattelli's original staging. Violet and Daisy Hilton, who became vaudeville stars during the Great Depression. This powerful musical is a moving portrait of two women, joined at the hip, whose extraordinary bondage brings them fame but denies them love. Told almost entirely in song, the show follows their progression from England to America, around the vaudeville circuit and to Hollywood on the eve of their appearance in the 1932 movie *Freaks.* *SIDE SHOW* was a nominee in 2015 for the Drama Desk Award for Best Revival of a Musical. Remaining performances are Friday and Saturday, August 4 and 5 at 7:30 PM; and Sundays, July 30 and August 6 at 2:00 PM.
