Waiting for the review is the hardest part. AKRON - Weathervane Playhouse presents the first main stage production of its 2017-2018 season, Terrence McNally's hilarious It's Only a Play August 31 through September 17, 2017. There's no people like show people in this hilarious comedy about the behind-the-scenes hijinks surrounding the opening of a Broadway play. Show times are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10-$22 and are available by calling the box office at 330-836-2626 or by going to www.weathervanplayhouse.com<http://www.weathervanplayhouse.com>. It's the opening night of The Golden Egg on Broadway, and wealthy theatrical producer Julia Budder is throwing a lavish party in her equally lavish Manhattan townhouse. Downstairs, the celebrities are pouring in, but the real action is upstairs, where a group of insiders have staked themselves out in the producer's bedroom as they wait for the reviews to come in. Included are the excitable author; the brilliant but unstable director (who courts failure and is devastated when his work is well received); the drug-snorting leading lady (who is hoping to revive her career after a series of flop movies); a fawning, hypocritical drama critic (who is a closet playwright); and the playwright's best friend, an egotistical but insecure comic actor who passed up a chance to star in the play for a television series - which has since been cancelled. KSU Trumbull Announces Auditions for "Look Back in Anger"

The Kent State Trumbull Theatre is announcing auditions for its season opener, John Osborne's "Look Back in Anger" directed by award-winning director Harvey Johnson. For Jimmy Porter, there is nothing more criminal than the lack of emotion and enthusiasm he sees evident in his generation, especially in his well-born wife, Alison, and their roommate Cliff, who have grown addicted to Jimmy’s passion and rage. But when Alison’s childhood friend Helena visits, she exposes the unsustainable madness of their relationships and living situation, forcing Alison to decide whether to leave the most exciting and dangerous man she’s ever known. Still as shocking and relevant as when it first premiered in post-war London, Look Back in Anger is a sharply funny, fiercely honest exploration of political disillusionment and basic human yearning. Auditions will be held September 5 & 6 from 6pm to 10pm at the Kent State Trumbull Theatre. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Cast is 3m 2w. *AUDITION: * The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration is looking for students and community members to audition for the Fall Mainstage production, *The Skin of Our Teeth, *by Thornton Wilder, directed by James Slowiak, UA Professor of Theatre. This award winning comedy turns theatre conventions upside down as we careen from modern day New Jersey to the Ice Age and beyond. Full of outrageous characters and provocative themes, there is a role for every type of performer! At least four men and four women. Rehearsals will begin Monday, September 11th and performance dates are October 26th to November 4th, 2017. If you are cast, expect to rehearse Sunday through Thursday evenings, for 3 to 4 hours. *WHAT TO PREPARE:* Please prepare to perform 2-3 minutes of something you do well. Like “America’s Got Talent”: recite a poem, sing a song, dance, mime, do a monologue, a comic routine – anything you do well! You also may be asked to move and to work with other members of your audition group. Vanity Crash's 5th Release "Phantasmagoria" - Sat Sept 23 - The Bop Stop

Through lots of sweat, tears and fists, our 5th release is done and we are super proud of how it sounds. We have assembled a fantastic release extravaganza Saturday, September 23 at 7pm at the Bop Stop. So mark your calendars and save the date!!! We want to give you, our supporting fan, a bit of a sneak preview inside story around this record. The title is "Phantasmagoria", which means a series of images that evoke an altered reality dream-like state. That is what we have worked to achieve with the songs on the record. 1 - I think I was tripping when I wrote the title track, I don’t really remember putting it to paper, but I do love the imagery the words create. So close your eyes, then give me your mind when you listen to it. 2- "So It Seem" is the altered state of reality we are living in. Is life as good as it appears? Are there demons lurking in the cracks and crevices watching us? I don’t want to spook you, but keep your eyes pealed. 3 - I was in a band long ago called System 56 and I loved a song we performed called "Life On A Cool Curve". It was written by Steve Simenic. We transformed back to an 80’s feel to uncover this gem and remind you that it is empowering to be different. 4 - Thomas penned "Emily Dickenson", the story about a one-night stand with a writer whose name is similar to Emily Dickinson. We ramped up the punk factor for your pleasure on this ditty. 5 - We close out with "Angel & Me", a melancholy study of two young lost souls and their friends on a nothing-to-do night. They’re struggling to figure out how they fit in today, and even more so, how they fit in tomorrow. This song has a guest appearance by Bowie’s long running pianist Mike Garson. Because visual themes are integral to the music of "Phantasmagoria", we worked with notable local artists to develop a graphic-novel-like album cover. The graphic novel artists include Gary & Laura Dumm, best known for their decades-long relationship with Harvey Pekar, Jim "The Rev" Giar, Ashley Ribblett, Clare Kolat and Tim Switalski.
