Audition Notice “Without a Clue” a killer new comedy written by Breianne Knight Directed by John Schneider Audition dates and times Sunday, August 20th at 2:00 Monday, August 21st at 7:00 Olde Towne Hall Theatre – 36119 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville Auditions will consist of reading scenes from the script. Plot Summary Justin Tyme owns a small hotel that has its share of problems. During a thunderstorm, the maid, Lulu, discovers one of the guests staying at the hotel has been murdered. Brooke, a girl with a broken down car, arrives right before an inept detective. Pretty soon, all of the guests are brought together to figure out the killer’s identity and survive the night. The problems double when Sally Lynch, a building inspector, arrives to evaluate the condition of the hotel. Character Descriptions Justin Tyme – age 20s to 30s. Owner of the Falcon Inn. A bit high strung. Inspector Stumph – any age. A bumbling detective. Howard - any age. A wise-cracking, lazy maintenance man. Can double as the dead body and is carried around onstage. Slash - 20s. A wannabe British rock star with a fake accent. Mortimer - any age. Expressionless. Monotone. Sits on a couch and wears a cape. Glen Roberts - a dead body. Brooke – age 20s to 30s. Level headed. Points out the absurdity of the situation. Lulu – age 20s to 30s. The maid. Often confused. Has a crush on Justin. Tina – age 20s. Slash's girlfriend. Somewhat neurotic. Has fainting spells. Sally Lynch - age 35+. A building inspector. Very stern and serious. Actors need to feel comfortable performing physical comedy (tripping, stumbling and falling). Performances are September 29, 30, and October 6, 7, 8, 13, 14. Rehearsals will be Monday - Thursday at 7:15 with two Sunday rehearsals at 12:00. Rehearsals start Aug. 24. Questions? The Importance of Being Earnest Will Be Presented on August 18-20, 25-27 at Yoga Central, 4626 Cleveland Avenue North, Canton The Canal Fulton Players are proud to present Oscar Wilde’s romantic comedy of deception and chicanery, The Importance of Being Earnest, on August 18-20, 25-27, 2017 at Yoga Central, 4626 Cleveland Avenue North, Canton, Ohio. This new venue gives the players a new perspective as to the presentation of comedies. Yoga Central has large room with a raised stage with numerous doors to enter and exit to add to the hijinks involved in this play. The Importance of Being Earnest is a play in which two men assume the same identity to deceive the general public and loved ones. The inclusion of two men who are never seen or heard adds to the frivolity as each character either kills these men off or resurrects them out of thin air. Confusion reigns supreme as two women believe that they are engaged to be married only to find out that there is no fiancé to marry. Just as confusion reigns supreme, the chicanery unravels quickly but not before the two men employ other devices to obtain their goals. Unfortunately, they discover that their loved ones and others use deception to thwart them. Is there an Ernest among the cast? Who is this fellow Bunbury? Is Jack who he says he is? And what about this Miss Prism? Making up the cast are: Brad Vincent as John Worthing, a prime proper landowner who goes to the city to have fun Mark Brown as Algernon Moncrieff, a bohemian type who loves to have a good time Geri Marken as Rev. Canon Chasuble, a minister who is smitten with a fine woman Lou Saneshige as Merriman, the house keeper at John Worthing’s estate and Lane, Algernon’s maid in London Denise Robb as Lady Bracknell, the snobbish aunt to Algernon and chief antagonist to John Worthing Shelly Rayborn as Gwendolen Fairfax, a head strong woman looking for true love and a good time Courtney Hardy as Cecily Cardew, an innocent girl who believes in romance in everything Linda Keith as Miss Prism, Cecily’s tutor and a woman with a jaded past. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 pm. Sunday matinee performances are at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $10.00 for adults, and $8.00 for seniors and children under the age of twelve. Mighty Goliath Productions is celebrating their 59th season with BIG FISH! The proceeds from our annual production will be donated to the performing arts programs of the Avon Lake city schools. Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, Big Fish centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest… and then some! Edward’s incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him – most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales. Overflowing with heart, humor and spectacular stagecraft, Big Fish is an extraordinary new Broadway musical that reminds us why we love going to the theatre – for an experience that’s richer, funnier and BIGGER than life itself. Our process is very unique in that the whole cast rehearses just once per week on Friday evenings from 7-10 pm. For this production some principles will also rehearse on Monday evenings. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN In addition to the named characters, MGP is seeking a number of talented dancers (particularly with tap experiences) of all ages. As well as anyone with special skills that may be found in a circus such as juggling, tumbling, acrobatics, magic, etc. Edward Bloom- (G2-A4) originally play by Norbert Leo Butz, a loving husband and father who leads a complex imaginary life with many fantasy friends; requires a singer, dancer who ages from 18 to 60+; a huge heart, a great sense of humor and a vivid imagination Will Bloom- (C#3-D4) approximately 30 years old. Edward’s son, a realist and a pragmatist; and the polar opposite of Edward. His journey of reconciliation with his father is the story of the musical. This is the second male lead and requires a strong actor who sings beautifully. Sandra Bloom- (G3-E5) Edward’s wife, a loving wife who completely understands her husband and who seeks and believes in the possibility of reconciliation between her husband and son. This is the leading female role that requires an actor who ages from 18 to 60+ and who is both a strong actress and singer – and very good mover. Josephine Bloom- (G3-Db5) Will’s wife, a lovely young woman who provides balance for Will’s pragmatism. With Sandra, she supports and helps guide Will’s journey toward reconciliation with his father. This supporting female role requires a strong actor-singer. Karl- (A2-D3) a giant, one of Edward’s fantasy friends. This supporting role requires an actor who is 6’4” or over. Through Edward’s friendship, he grows from being a ‘beastly’ outcast to a highly successful businessman. This supporting role requires an actor who acts, sings, has an appreciation for comic irony, stilt walks, and dances. This actor will be asked to perform on drywall stilts. Amos Calloway- (C2-F4) a werewolf, another of Edward’s fantasy friends. Masquerading as a ringmaster of a brokendown circus, he begins as Edward’s tormentor but then, through Edward’s acceptance, he accepts himself and becomes highly successful. This supporting role requires an actor-comic who acts, sings, and moves well. Don Price- (C3-F#4) Edward’s childhood frenemy, an early buddy, bully and rival for Sandra’s hand. This is a supporting roles requires a strong actor with a comic sensibility, a good singer and has movement skills. The Witch- (F3-F5) the earliest and most fantastic of Edward’s "imaginary" acquaintances who shows him how he’ll die. This supporting role requires a strong, sexy singer-dancer with commanding acting skills. Jenny Hill- (G3-E5) the other woman, one of Edward’s early childhood friends who he forgets but then who later becomes the recipient of his kindness. This supporting role also requires a good actress, singer, and mover who ages from 18 to 60+. Zachy Price- (A3-Gb4) Don's comedic younger brother Dr. Bennett- Non singing role. Edward’s physician, the experienced and wise country doctor, Edward’s contemporary. Young Will/Will's Son- (B3-C5) 10 year old Will Bloom and Will's son in the show's finale. Two grumpy Polish ladies, Lottie and Bernice, become trapped in a television studio by a blizzard and end up taking over Western New York's favorite morning show "Buffalo Yak!" Well, they do have some help; there are the two constantly bickering janitors, Hal and Sal, who agree to handle the editorials. Candy Bickel, a wildly ambitious station intern who sees the blizzard as her break into media stardom, takes over the newsdesk. Neurotic program director Virgil Mooch tries to help despite the fact that being on-camera tends to want to make him throw up. Lloyd Block, the station manager, tries to hold everything together, while at the same time drowning his sorrows because of his deteriorating domestic situation. Things, of course, get much worse as the audience witnesses the funniest bad TV ever broadcast! Swingtime big band plays the Lakewood Masonic Temple Swing Dance on Friday, August 11th

The Lakewood Masonic Temple swing dance is the longest running and largest swing dance in the Cleveland area. Amazing live music and DJs have been keeping everyone's toes tapping the second Friday of every month since before 1998. The Lakewood Masonic Temple is located at 15300 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood. Over 150 people attending each month and attendees have a variety of dance experience (including none) and come from all walks of life and ages. You will not need to bring a dance partner. We rotate partners during the dance lesson. How often do you get to meet 50-100 new people in under an hour? We provide the highest quality swing dance instruction from some of the nicest, most patient people you will ever meet. Our staff includes regional, national, and international swing dance competitors (and winners) in multiple swing dance forms. Dances are $12 per person, $10 for students and seniors with a valid ID, $5 for first timers. From 8-9pm Rachel Itsell and Bryan Hlavacek from Get Hep Swing will lead a beginner-friendly, jitterbug lesson. Remember, you do not need a partner as we rotate partners during this lesson. Also, if you are attending this lesson with a partner and you prefer not to rotate, that is fine too. We are really easy going. Do what makes you happy. 9pm-12am the Swingtime Big Band plays live music. Each month we feature a different band. DJs play a variety of swing dance-able tunes during the band breaks. The Lakewood Masonic Temple does not have AC but we use mutliple fans to keep the heat and sweat at bay. We sell cold water and soda for cheap and the money goes to fund our swing dance programing for youth. You are also welcome to bring your own beverages. We welcome anyone to join us who has an interest in dance, music, socializing and fun. We don't care what your physical ability or size is, where you are in life, where you are on the spectrum of sexual or gender orientation, what color or creed, or non-creed, you are. Are you a man who wants to learn how to follow or a woman who wants to learn how to lead? That's cool! This idea is not new to the swing dance scene. We are the easiest club to join. If you have an interest, you are in. :) We love spreading the gospel of swing dancing and we are excited to share the language and culture of this truly American, urban folk dance form with you. It is important for us to let you know that this dance style started in the African-American ballrooms of Harlem, New York in the late 1920s/early 1930s. Seeking answers from his high school friends, he takes a wild leap at love -- in a direction no one expects. What follows will delight and disturb you in equal measure. A play about breaking molds and broken hearts, "Dog Sees God" provides a gritty, witty take on beloved characters that many will find familiar from their childhoods. The playwright adapts the gentle conventions and conceits of a simple comic strip to the harsh hormonal realities that many teens face every day. The result leaves the audience with an indelible heartful of laughter and loss. Performances will be August 11, 12, and 13, presented as the first of the "Theatre on the Edge" series at the Ashtabula Arts Cente. After a successful run as a stage play on Broadway, this intense drama made its way to the movie screen starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore. Two Marines are on trial for complicity in the death of a fellow Marine at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. The Navy lawyer, a callow young man more interested in softball games than the case, expects a plea bargain and a cover up of what really happened. Prodded by a female member of his defense team, the lawyer eventually makes a valiant effort to defend his clients and, in so doing, puts the military mentality and the Marine code of honor on trial.
