GATES MILLS PLAYERS ADDS AUDITION DATE FOR “A THURBER CARNIVAL” BECAUSE OF WEATHER, THE GATES MILLS PLAYERS IS ADDING AN AUDITION DATE FOR TUESDAY, JAN 9, 6-8 PM (THIS IS IN ADDITION TO MON, JAN 8, 6 – 8 PM. Prepared monologues are not required and sides will be provided. (A prepared resume and headshot would be appreciated.) Location: Gates Mills Community House, Chagrin River Road next to Gates Mills Town Hall. ABOUT THE PLAY: “A THURBER CARNIVAL” is a series of comic sketches based on the short stories, cartoons and fables of James Thurber, one of America’s greatest humorists. Co-written by Thurber and Cleveland-born actor Burgess Meredith, the 1960 revue won a Tony Award and has influenced comedy revues from Laugh-In to Second City to Saturday Night Live, as well as TV series like “My World and Welcome To It” and such movies as “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” Details about the play and James Thurber can be found on www.wikipedia.org. ROLES: Cast members (listed as 5 men and 4 women) play multiple roles ranging from mid- twenties to mid-sixties. The revue’s various short sketches offer actors improv/mime ops. SCHEDULE: Performances are March 2, 3, 4 (matinee), 9, and 10. Cast and script pick-up will be announced Jan 11 with the first full read-thru Sunday afternoon Jan 14. Rehearsals take place on subsequent Sunday afternoons, as well as Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings thru February 17. After February 18, the rehearsal schedule will add evenings to accommodate tech and dress rehearsals. Auditions for Ripcord by *David Lindsay-Abaire* and produced by special arrangement with Dramatist Play Service will be held at the Heritage Barn located at 5238 Young Road Stow, Ohio from 7 PM to 9 PM this evening. The Story: A sunny room on an upper floor is prime real estate in the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility, so when the cantankerous Abby is forced to share her quarters with new-arrival Marilyn, she has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary. A seemingly harmless bet between the old women quickly escalates into a dangerous game of one-upmanship that reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but also deeper truths that each would rather remain hidden. Cast consists of 3 women and 3 men who can play these ranges: Abby Binder – senior home resident 60 – 80 Marilyn Dunne – senior home resident 60 – 80 Scotty – Resident Aide 20-30 Benjamin, Lewis & Clown – 40s Colleen & Woman in White – 30-40s Derek, Zombie Butler and Masked Man – 30-40s No AEA contracts available for this show. ADULT CLASSES Whether you're looking to hone your communication skills, audition for that community theatre role, or simply make theatre, Cleveland Play House's artistic and educational staff will engage and immerse students in the love of theatre, while developing skills needed to enhance your vocal and physical abilities. The Actor's Gym Ages 18-100 This offering is geared toward working professional actors and provides an opportunity to "work-out" their acting skills for a nominal fee in a wide variety of disciplines, including monologue/audition work, scene study, voice and speech, and classical text. In addition, class members will be eligible to participate in a series of master classes featuring an amazing variety of Cleveland's top artists, including Artistic Director Laura Kepley, members of the CPH artistic and education departments, and guest artists from our mainstage productions. How would you like to be that voice and build a career as a voice-over artist/narrator from the privacy of your own home or local studio? In this new offering, participants will work on the techniques of voice-over and narration with a variety of Cleveland's top talents then record their own demo tape at the end of the session to share with agents, production companies and the world! Action! The Fundamentals of Screen Acting Ages 18-100 Acting for the stage and acting for the camera are two entirely different disciplines; this class will enable actors to establish a working understanding and appreciation of the TV/film medium. Actors will be filmed and provided with immediate feedback by the instructor throughout the class. They will also gain insights into the world of agents, self-marketing, and the professional opportunities for film actors in Northeast Ohio and beyond. Actors will participate in a showcase for friends and family. Step Right Up! Ages 18-100 This class will cover the basics of acting technique and will provide a solid foundation for adults interested in pursuing the craft of acting. The class will give actors an opportunity to learn through a variety of exercises, games, improvisations, and scene work. Actors will participate in a showcase for friends and family. Scenes and Suds Ages 21-100 In this fun new offering with the young professional in mind, participants will perform scenes from plays that have an alcoholic beverage component; The Days of Wine and Roses, Barefoot in the Park, and Cat on A Hot Tin Roof for example. Then following the sessions, the class will convene at a local pub or restaurant to enjoy the featured beverage of choice from the scene-work that day. Cheers!
