As the bells of Notre Dame ring from the heights of the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris, Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer, observes the city reveling in the annual Feast of Fools. Escaping the stony prison of his caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the gypsy Esmeralda. A variety of performers, diverse in age, race, physical ability, background, and theatre experience. Equity agreements may be considered for this production About the play... Fire on the Water, the acclaimed multimedia theatrical event, returns to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1969 burning of the Cuyahoga River in an all-new version. Fire on the Water is a fast-paced series of short plays inspired by this pivotal moment in Cleveland's history. Created by a team of playwrights, directors, and actors, the production features original work woven into a powerful production exploring how the environment shapes identity, while celebrating the remarkable recovery of Cleveland's waterways. About The Creation Process*... Fire on the Water is a partnership between CPT and multiple NEO playwrights, as well as Blank Canvas Theatre, Maelstrom Collaborative Arts, and Talespinner Children's Theatre. The production is a semi-scripted and semi-devised piece. The full script will be assembled during the rehearsal process. Actors who are cast in this production will be involved in multiple scenes with different creators/directors. *Fire on the Water will include extreme physical theatre with the use of rigged flying of actors. We acknowledge and disclose that there is an inherent danger within that acrobatic context. Some actors may be asked to participate in these scenes even after they have started development but will only be expected to do so if consent is given. The choreographer of these particular scenes has special rigging/flight training; additionally, CPT has had ongoing training with rigging and flight choreography over the course of the last 5 years. About the rehearsals... Some scene work will begin around mid-December for actors working with certain prepared scenes. Full cast rehearsals begin January 2, 2019. Rehearsals are 5-6 times a week, with evening weekday rehearsals and some daytime weekend rehearsals. Runs February 9, 2019 - March 2, 2019, Thu/Fri/Sat/Mon at 7:30pm. Gordon Square Theatre There will also be a performance of select scenes in partnership with Cuyahoga Valley National Park on 2/27 and a special rehearsal for this show on 2/26. Auditions... Saturday, October 27, 4-8pm Monday, October 29, 6-10pm Callbacks: we have not yet decided if call backs will be needed and will announce that during or shortly after auditions. Auditions are by appointment only. You can schedule for a 2 hour slot on either Sat 10/27 OR Mon 10/29. Auditions will be held in a group, so your work will be seen by others auditioning. In addition to showing monologue and song, you will be asked to participate in group physical work. Please plan on staying the full 2 hours of the audition. About the Co-Lead Directors: Raymond Bobgan is the Executive Artistic Director of Cleveland Public Theatre and is the founding director of the Cleveland Core Ensemble and is dedicating a majority of his creative work to this group. He has devised over 30 full-length works for the stage with professional performers, students, and community groups, and countless shorter works and workshop productions. In 1993, Raymond founded Theatre Labyrinth (later becoming Wishhounds) which was housed at Pilgrim Church in Tremont and was a resident company at CPT. Their last creation was Blue Sky Transmission: A Tibetan Book of the Dead which was co-produced by La Mama Experimental Theatre Company (Off-Broadway) and CPT. Currently, he is envisioning a number of new works including The Mask of Flight, a collage of short pieces springing from various works created for Station Hope and Pandemonium; Ceremony and Spectacle, a two evening event loosely based on Cleveland Core Ensemble's founding piece, Rusted Heart Broadcast; and Invitational # an interactive experiment. India Nicole Burton is the 2018/2019 National New Play Network Producer in Residence at Cleveland Public Theatre. She is an actress, director, playwright, and producer. She is a native of Akron, OH and graduated from The University of Akron in 2011 with a BA in Theatre Arts with an emphasis on performance. Upon graduating, India founded Ma'Sue Productions, an African American theatre company located in Akron. She has directed, produced, and performed in several of Ma'Sue's plays and acted as artistic director until 2015. India has worked with many prominent Akron, Cleveland, New York, Atlanta, and L.A. actors, directors, and playwrights. She is the director of drama at Dike School of the Arts where she trains students in acting and performance, grades pre-K through 8th. India is currently working on developing and devising an original play about women in the Black Panther Party.

You should have a basic understanding of improv, but you don't need to be an expert. We'll address some fundamentals and also have room for everyone to stretch out in scene work. Workshop will focus on establishing the reality of the scene, connecting with your scene partner, and heightening based off game/premise. Review by Laura Kennelly Bottom Line:* Hello Dolly!,* like *Les Miserables* (next up at Playhouse Square, October 30 to November 18), is a festival featuring familiar delights with big numbers and fancy costumes. A nostalgic celebration of a world vanished, it avoids focus on personal and world problems seen in many contemporary musicals (*Dear Evan Hansen, Come from Away*). The problem here is a classic one: finding true love. That alone makes it a charming night of escape. Long Form Improv Workshops

Hey Everyone My name is Ryan Kohler. I grew up in Cleveland where I did theater during high school, but now live in Los Angeles as a TV writer and improvisor. I'm going to be home in December and wanted to gauge interest in Long Form Improv classes/workshop during that time. I have been performing improv for over 7 years now. I grew up in Avon and went to Chicago for college where I studied improv at IO Chicago(Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Chris Farley). After college I moved to Los Angeles where I've been studying at Upright Citizens Brigade(Kate McKinnon, Aubrey Plaza, Nick Kroll, Aziz Ansari) and The Groundlings(Lisa Kudrow, Will Ferrell, Melissa McCarthey). This past summer I was part of the Del Close Marathon in New York. I've also worked on tv shows that can be seen on Netflix, HBO, Disney XD, and Adult Swim. Long Form Improv is a ton of fun. REVIEW: WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF at Beck Center (Laura Kennelly)

Review by Laura KennellyEdward Albee’s *Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?*, now disturbing the peace in the Beck Center’s Studio Theater, reminds us that drinking and talking do not mix. Although it premiered in 1962, much still rings true today in this production directed by Donald Carrier. The plot is simple: the wife of a senior faculty member invites a new faculty member and his wife over for a 2 AM nightcap after a drunken faculty party. The resulting continuation of the booze fest turns into a disaster for the two couples. Exploitation and vulgarity get passed around evenly and everyone sustains damages before it’s over. Matters, will go toe to toe in what's being called the fight of the century!!! These two will go back and forth in the ring delivering body punches and uppercuts on their voting stance, until someone reigns supreme. Ima B. Voting is a brawler that's not afraid to hit her opponent right in the button. Meanwhile, Don T. Matters is a strong contender, shoe-shining on the canvas to win his argument. This debate is sure to end in a slobber-knocker with both adversaries looking for the KO punch. Who will be crowned the champion? And who will be left on the ropes? Will this fight end in a split decision? Or will one of these great fighters throw in the towel? Voting: Nici Romo ABOUT 'WINNER TAKES ALL': Wandering Aesthetics intends to host the debate of the century -- a battle royal for the heart of democracy. The hour-long debates will utilize a range of comedic techniques -- from slapstick to clowning -- to engage viewers and build conversation around a central question: “Should I vote?” They will take place once a week in the month leading up to the November midterm elections, starting on October 6th at the Electric Pressure Cooker Cabaret. ABOUT JOY OF VOTING: Launched two years ago with Knight Foundation support, Citizen University, a non-profit based in Seattle piloted its Joy of Voting program in four cities for the November 2016 general election. The project has expanded to additional cities, including four locations for midterm elections in 2018. The Joy of Voting project derives its vision from an article in The Atlantic written by Citizen University founder and CEO Eric Liu, in which he argues that it’s possible to revive 18th and 19th century practices of raucous, participatory activity and pageantry around elections in an inclusive 21st century way. “Instead of ‘eat your vegetables’ or ‘do your duty,’ voting should feel more like ‘join the club,’” said Liu. “Or, better yet, ‘join the party.’” “During last year’s election cycle, we saw such hunger and excitement around these creative, fun, in-person activities.
