An observant neighbour reports them to the police who secretly photographs them from the informant's backyard and eventually break in and arrest the couple under the then inhuman and universally pilloried Immorality Act. Through improvisational prompts and exercises we will discover each others rhythms and intrinsic patterns while working on breaking our predictability. Contemporary by Bita Bell Class will explore relationships and space, focusing on releasing tension through bartenieff exercises and connecting with gravity. While developing momentum through space, class will investigate choreographic ideas and performance artistry. Repertory by DanceTheYard DTY’s directors have created an emerging body of work and a collective of professional artists who are committed to seeing the work presented in the local and national dance arena. Class will start with a short warm-up, followed by DTY dancers teaching company repertory. Afro Modern by Mojuba! Dance Collective Concepts in class will focus on the fusion of movement from the African Diaspora blended with modern and contemporary elements. Youth Master Classes Yoga by Elyse Morckel Yoga builds strength, stamina, and flexibility. Classes will incorporate Vinyasa (flowing movement sequences) with slow, sustained stretches, refinement of alignment in held poses, as well as breath awareness and mental focus. In short, it is a practice of moving meditation, which brings more clarity and peace. Yoga has been defined as ‘Awareness in Action’. We are reminded to listen to our bodies and enjoy the evolution of becoming fully present in the here and now. Contemporary by DanceTheYard Class will begin with a guided improvisation and transition to a formal warm-up that refines and defines the movement language used throughout the remainder of the class. Class will culminate in a group combination that challenges bodies and leaves space for the dancers own creativity. Song & Dance: An experimental movement improvisation by Bone & Fiddle Dance Collective Inspiration for movement derives from a variety of artist modalities, through the art of dance, these inspirations can be abstracted and morphed into new choreographic compositions. This experimental movement improvisation is based on participants vocalizations, favorite song lyrics, and expressive poetry. Class structure will include a full body and vocal warm ups. Improvisations will be directed by Mrs. Logan based on participants lyric choices, and playing with classic choreographic structures. Avenue Arts Marketplace & Theatre announces auditions for BENT Located at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton, Ohio 44702 SYNOPSIS: In 1934 Berlin on the eve of the Nazi incursion, Max, a grifter and his lover Rudy are recovering from a night of debauchery with a SA trooper. Two soldiers burst into the apartment and slit their guest's throat, beginning a nightmare odyssey through Nazi Germany. Ranked lower on the human scale than Jews, the men as awoved homosexuals, flee. Desperate and on the run, Max asks his own "discreetly" homosexual Uncle Freddie for help as the older man offers little more than suggestions on how to live, as he does, practicing homosexuality on the side. Attempting their escape, Rudy is beaten to death as Horst, another homosexual prisoner, warns Max to deny his lover. Taken to a death camp at Dachau, Max and Horst branded with the "pink triangle", hope to survive with each other for comfort and courage but it is not to be. "Bent" is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC. CHARACTERS: Max (Male, 30s) - homosexual "wheeler dealer" who leads a dissolute life of drink, drugs, and sporadic sex until the horros of Nazi Germany intervene and effectively put an end to his hedonistic alcoholic life style; a tormented individual, tortured by the memory of his reprehensible actions, but never loses his basic humanity; not at all a coward, but rather a pragmatist. Horst (Male, 20s) - relatively muscular physique and a kind nature; a "pink triange", incarcerated in the death camps of Dacheu because of his homosexuality; a sensitive man, strongly affected by Max's torment. Rudy (Male, 30s) - bespectacled, homosexual dancer; rather gushy, effusive, homebody type who has a great love for Max and his precious household plants; tends to become a trifle hysterical at times. Greta (Male, late 30s) - a man dressed as a woman in a silver dress, top hat and cane; presents an appearance that is at once elegant and bizarre; tough, practical proprietor of a gay nightclub who entertains patrons by singing in a smoky seductive voice; Nazis' rise to power sends him back to his wife and kids. Uncle Freddie (Male, 50s) - aristocratic, well-dressed; Max's uncle, a "closet fluff" Wolf (Male, 30s) - gay man picked up by Max one drunken evening. The story is a natural for a stage adaptation: the saga of George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been quashed by family obligation and civic duty, whose guardian angel has to descent on Christmas Eve to save him from despair and to remind him—by showing him what the world would have been like had he never been born—that his has been, after all, a wonderful life. This faithful adaptation has all your favorite characters: George and Mary Hatch, Clarence, Uncle Billy, Violet, and, of course, the Scrooge-like villain, Mr. Potter. This fine dramatization not only celebrates the faith of the season, it also celebrates the American philosophy of life: hard work, fair play and the love and support of one's family and community will be rewarded.
