The Illusion Factory is holding auditions for our 2018-19 touring production of “Sojourner Speaks”, written and directed by Josy Jones. We are seeking an African-American woman to play the role of Sojourner Truth in a one-person performance for young audiences. Ages 25-45. Actor will be depicting the life of Sojourner Truth through many different characters in her life. Actor should be charismatic and high-energy with the ability to sing (or carry a tune). Movement background is an added bonus, but not required. Must have vehicle and a valid Driver’s License. Auditions will be held Oct 29th and 30th on the second floor of The Summit Artspace located at 140 E. Market St. Akron, Ohio 44308. Avenue Arts Marketplace & Theatre announces auditions for BENT Located at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton, Ohio 44702 SYNOPSIS: In 1934 Berlin on the eve of the Nazi incursion, Max, a grifter and his lover Rudy are recovering from a night of debauchery with a SA trooper. Two soldiers burst into the apartment and slit their guest's throat, beginning a nightmare odyssey through Nazi Germany. Ranked lower on the human scale than Jews, the men as awoved homosexuals, flee. Desperate and on the run, Max asks his own "discreetly" homosexual Uncle Freddie for help as the older man offers little more than suggestions on how to live, as he does, practicing homosexuality on the side. Attempting their escape, Rudy is beaten to death as Horst, another homosexual prisoner, warns Max to deny his lover. Taken to a death camp at Dachau, Max and Horst branded with the "pink triangle", hope to survive with each other for comfort and courage but it is not to be. "Bent" is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC. Directed by: Jared Sparks Stage Manager: Olivia King Auditions will be held on Sunday, October 21st, and Wednesday October 24th from 7-9pm All auditioners are asked to come prepared to cold read from the script. We also ask that you bring a current headshot and resume with you to auditions. Rehearsals will begin on October 28th and will generally take place Sun-Thurs (lighter rehearsals toward the beginning. Heavier in December) Performances: January 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th at 8pm and January 6th at 2pm. CHARACTERS: Max (Male, 30s) - homosexual "wheeler dealer" who leads a dissolute life of drink, drugs, and sporadic sex until the horros of Nazi Germany intervene and effectively put an end to his hedonistic alcoholic life style; a tormented individual, tortured by the memory of his reprehensible actions, but never loses his basic humanity; not at all a coward, but rather a pragmatist. Horst (Male, 20s) - relatively muscular physique and a kind nature; a "pink triange", incarcerated in the death camps of Dacheu because of his homosexuality; a sensitive man, strongly affected by Max's torment. Rudy (Male, 30s) - bespectacled, homosexual dancer; rather gushy, effusive, homebody type who has a great love for Max and his precious household plants; tends to become a trifle hysterical at times. Greta (Male, late 30s) - a man dressed as a woman in a silver dress, top hat and cane; presents an appearance that is at once elegant and bizarre; tough, practical proprietor of a gay nightclub who entertains patrons by singing in a smoky seductive voice; Nazis' rise to power sends him back to his wife and kids. Uncle Freddie (Male, 50s) - aristocratic, well-dressed; Max's uncle, a "closet fluff" Wolf (Male, 30s) - gay man picked up by Max one drunken evening. Avenue Arts Marketplace & Theatre announces auditions for IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE Avenue Arts Marketplace & Theatre is located at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton Ohio 44702 SYNOPSIS: In our American culture It's a Wonderful Life has become almost as familiar as Dickens' A Christmas Carol. The story is a natural for a stage adaptation: the saga of George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been quashed by family obligation and civic duty, whose guardian angel has to descent on Christmas Eve to save him from despair and to remind him—by showing him what the world would have been like had he never been born—that his has been, after all, a wonderful life. This faithful adaptation has all your favorite characters: George and Mary Hatch, Clarence, Uncle Billy, Violet, and, of course, the Scrooge-like villain, Mr. Potter. This fine dramatization not only celebrates the faith of the season, it also celebrates the American philosophy of life: hard work, fair play and the love and support of one's family and community will be rewarded. REVIEW: Pride and Prejudice at GLT (Laura Kennelly)

Gentle reader, I am exceedingly anxious to relay an account of the opening night of *Pride and Prejudice* at Playhouse Square on Saturday last. Brilliantly directed by Joseph Hanreddy (who co-authored the adaptation with J. R. Sullivan), this Great Lakes Theater production at the Hanna Theatre celebrated spirit and heart in a fashion that might have thrilled and astonished the (very) late Miss Jane Austen, author of the 1813 novel of the same name. (Yes, this delightful play is based on that classic Jane Austen novel that I do hope you don’t think you hate because it was a school assignment. In truth, it’s clever enough to justify reading via flashlight under the covers when you should be sleeping.) BOTTOM LINE: If you think “ho-hum” Jane Austen again, think again, please. This is a truly first-rate production that brings out the celebrated wit and humor (and kindness) that has kept *Pride and Prejudice *a classic (and good-natured) lesson about the dangers of rushing to judge others.
