Hello! A showcase of short staged readings takes place this Thursday, 7 to 9pm at Playwrights Local (397 East 156th Street, Cleveland, OH 44110). This is a free, unpaid, casual event -- *a potluck meal will be provided beforehand!* Actors will need to be there by 6:30pm but are free to leave after this specific reading (or stay and watch the rest till 9). You will be provided with a chair and a script to keep in-hand while performing on a bare stage. "Facing Away From The Sun" *is a short one-act that concerns the struggling relationship dynamics between a mother and son on the eve of a major departure. Lawrence School is looking for a K-12 long-term substitute to cover elementary and secondary general music courses from January - Mid March. Training for this position will begin in December. We are seeking a candidate with a strong singing voice, background in elementary and secondary general music, and with experience playing classroom instruments including guitar, piano, and drum set. This position will include K-6 elementary music class, a middle school vocal elective, high school choir, and high school courses in music appreciation. The applicant would have a chance to train with the teacher prior to the position. Lawrence School is able to accept candidates with morning availability from 7:55 - 10:30am for the elementary general music portion of the position and/or candidates with afternoon availability 11:30 - 3:04pm for the secondary general music and choral portion. Winter auditions are here and are you prepared? Dr. Christopher Hutton, Baritone, is taking new voice students and excited to get you physically and mentally prepared for auditions and performances. Dr. Hutton has a Masters Degree and Doctorate of Music Arts degrees in Vocal Pedagogy (Science of Singing) from Arizona State University, and is fluent in teaching both belting/music theatre technique and classical technique. Christopher attended Youngstown State University where he received his Bachelors in Voice Performance. He has also performed opera at regional opera houses for over thirteen years. Two maids escape their doldrums by entering into a vicious game of role play and fantasy. When they attempt to transcend their position in society and overthrow their mistress, they find themselves reeling out of control. Illusion, deception, and murder collide in this, Genet's taut psychological drama. This dramatic show is full of the most seasoned actresses in Northeastern Ohio, Shani Ferry, Adrienne Jones, and Rose Gabriele Foti. “The Maids” will leaving you breathless and in awe of this classic piece of theater of the absurd.
