*Cleveland Youth Theater Project *aims to create affordable educational opportunities in the performing arts. Currently, we are enrolling students grades 3-5 for our spring improv class! For $90 (only $15 per class), students are given 6 weeks of equally fun and educational courses- teaching actors to think on their feet while using their voice, physicality, and castmates to create a story with a clear beginning, middle, and end. The class is lead by Emma Shepard, an actress and musician with experience teaching improvisation at Hudson City Schools. She has been inducted into the National Thespian Honor Society for her well-rounded work in theater. Classes take place at The Magalen in Cleveland's histroic and artistic Slavic Village district. Centrally located for the convenience of Cleveland's West and East-siders alike! All information is on the website. Dan Zola Orchestra Plays Get Hep Swing's Slovenian Workmen's Home Dance

What? Swing Dance hosted by Get Hep Swing When? Saturday, February 24th Where? Slovenian Workmen's Home, 15335 Waterloo Road Dance lessons? Yes. Beginner-friendly jitterbug from 8-9 Is there a band? Yes. The Dan Zola Orchestra plays from 9-12 Is there a DJ? Yes. The DJ plays during band breaks. Who can attend? Everyone is welcome. People of all ages attend. Do I need previous dance experience? No Do I need a partner? No, we rotate dance partners during the lesson What do I wear? Wear comfy shoes that allow you to pivot and turn easily. Wear clothing that makes you feel good about yourself. What is the cost? $12 per person, $10 for students and seniors, $5 for first-timers. Over 150 people attending each month and attendees have a variety of dance experience (including none) and come from all walks of life and ages. You will not need to bring a dance partner. We rotate partners during the dance lesson. How often do you get to meet 50-100 new people in under an hour? We provide the highest quality swing dance instruction from some of the nicest, most patient people you will ever meet. Our staff includes regional, national, and international swing dance competitors (and winners) in multiple swing dance forms. From 8-9pm Get Hep Swing dancers will lead a beginner-friendly, jitterbug lesson. Remember, you do not need a partner as we rotate partners during this lesson. Also, if you are attending this lesson with a partner and you prefer not to rotate, that is fine too. We are really easy going. Do what makes you happy. 9-12 pm The Dan Zola Orchestra hits the stage. Each month we feature a different band. DJs play a variety of swing dance-able tunes during the band breaks. We sell cold water and soda for cheap and the money goes to fund our swing dance programming for youth. You are also welcome to bring your own beverages. We welcome anyone to join us who has an interest in dance, music, socializing and fun. We don't care what your physical ability or size is, where you are in life, where you are on the spectrum of sexual or gender orientation, what color or creed, or non-creed, you are. Are you a man who wants to learn how to follow or a woman who wants to learn how to lead? That's cool! This idea is not new to the swing dance scene. We are the easiest club to join. If you have an interest, you are in. :) We love spreading the gospel of swing dancing and we are excited to share the language and culture of this truly American, urban folk dance form with you. It is important for us to let you know that this dance style started in the African-American ballrooms of Harlem, New York in the late 1920s/early 1930s. This dance has a gritty earthiness that is incredibly empowering, beautiful, and joyful. We can't wait for you to experience this conversation of dance with us. Attire is anything from casual to dressy. The best shoes to wear are comfortable and will allow you to pivot and turn easily. We make learning to partner dance easy and enjoyable. QuTheatr LGBTQ+ youth theatre audition/workshop this Sat in Akron!

Ohio-QuTheatr, a new performance project aimed at employing and empowering LGBTQ+ youth and young adults in greater Akron, will hold two workshops this winter to identify participants for the project. More about the Workshops: The focus in on performance as a vehicle for personal healing and empowerment. Workshops are offered FREE of charge and open to any LGBTQ+ youth between the ages of 15-21. Those interested in acting, writing, directing and the use of technology in the arts are encouraged to participate. These workshops are designed to provide a safe meeting place for LGBTQ+ youth to explore their creativity. Some participants may be selected for longer-term participation in QuTheatr and offered a modest stipend for future work in the company. Over the next two years, QuTheatr ensemble members will train, research, rehearse and present new theatre pieces based on their personal experiences and LGBTQ+ life in Akron. The FIRST workshop will be held at The Balch Street Theatre, 220 South Balch Street, Akron 44302, on Saturday, February 24th from 2-4pm. The SECOND workshop will be held at The University of Akron Student Center, third floor, on Tuesday, March 6th at 7PM on The University of Akron campus. QuTheatr is the recipient of a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as part of its 2017 Akron Knight Arts Challenge. The Knight Arts Challenge funds the best ideas for engaging and enriching Akron through the arts. QuTheatr is being formed as a project of New World Performance Lab (NWPL) and the Center for Applied Theatre and Active Culture (CATAC). NWPL co-artistic directors James Slowiak and Jairo Cuesta serve as producers of the project. The company will evolve under the direction of Coach House Theatre Artistic Director JT Buck.

The play portrays the adventures of four young lovers, a troupe of amateur actors, and interfering woodland sprites in three interlocking plots connected by the celebration of the wedding of a duke and a queen. Set both in mythical Athens and an enchanted forest, the play features star-crossed lovers, a handsome fairy king, a misguided parent, a weaver transformed into a half donkey plus fairies and elves. Performed widely around the world, the play celebrates the universal double-edged delight of falling in love.
