Class size is expected to be 7 students. Yeah, small. That means more mic time for you. What can I learn? Creativity - with consistency. Am I telling a story or having a conversation? Mic technique, studio etiquette, working like a pro. Copy analysis - Most of us are not truly reading. Voice acting - it's not what you think it is. Styles of voiceover. How to take direction, handle conflicting direction, work without direction, and raise your performance beyond the direction. Breathing, smiling, vocal production, voice placement. Reading to time. A technique for bringing life to boring copy (no, it's not talking louder!). And much more. Discovering what voiceover really is, and developing skills that clients will want to pay you for - that's our journey. This is career training. It is NOT a place for you to "try" voiceover because "it always seemed like fun." We're not dipping toes in the water here; we're forging a new future for you. Who is teaching this? QuTheatr, Akron's pre-professional performance ensemble dedicated to LGBTQ+ youth and young adults is seeking a few passionate actors to join the QuTheatr ensemble for their first fully staged theatre production! The all-original, company-devised project deals with the failure of anti-bullying campaigns and asks the powerful question: "How do we REALLY create a culture of kindness?" WHO WE'RE SEEKING LGBTQ+ Youth and young adults from diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds who feel passionate about the arts as a vehicle for community storytelling and expression. Allies are welcome to attend, but due to the nature of the subject matter and mission of the project, priority in casting will be given to LGBTQ+ youth. Rehearsals begin in late May, Performances will be held in July, with a possible local tour in fall of 2019. There will also be several meetings and workshops held in the spring prior to beginning formal rehearsal. The audition process will end at 5pm. LCCC THEATRE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR *SIX CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF AN AUTHOR* By Luigi Pirandello Adaptation by Robert Brustein Directed by Stephanie Wilbert Production Dates: April 25-27, 2019 AUDITION DATES ARE: Sunday, February 10 from 6-8 pm and Monday, February 11 from 7-9 pm. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on February 24. Auditions to be held on the campus of Lorain County Community College in the Stocker Arts Center's Cirigliano Studio Theatre located at 1005 North Abbe Road, Elyria OH 44035 Auditions are open to all LCCC students and staff, as well as actors from the community. No AEA contracts are available. Seeking to cast 14 multi-generational actors with specific roles available for a 10-15 year old boy and 10-15 year old girl. Michael Chekhov Center Cleveland is committed to the art of the actor through explorations of the psycho-physical processes illuminated by Michael Chekhov. Through educational offerings for artists and performances within the community, we explore what it means when the actor is the theatre. *THE WORKSHOP: CREATING CONSCIOUS CHARACTERS* Over the course of six meetings in a creatively supportive and holistic atmosphere, we will unfold principles of the Michael Chekhov technique to increase your psycho-physical awareness and open portals of imaginative transformation to create and embody fully conscious characters. This invitation is extended to those new to or with experience in the Michael Chekhov technique. It will be approached from a beginner's mind. We explore on our feet in movement, playing with energy, imagination, concentration, and improvisation. This offering is experiential over academic. Check expectations, plans, and a sense of right and wrong at the door! Wear clothing and shoes you are comfortable moving in. You discover how the magic of your movement, in tandem with your imagination and feeling life, has the ability to enliven the spaces within yourself and the spaces around you. Solo and ensemble explorations in movement, concentration, atmosphere, and gesture increase your flexibility, honesty, joy, and ease as a performing artist. You learn to free your body as a conduit for the soul of your character. Your Creative Individuality is supported and nourished, and your artistic work becomes more inspired. *WHO IS LEADING THIS WORKSHOP?* Ray Caspio creates beautifully grotesque characters whose comedic allure invites you into their queer realities, where they unpack American culture and scrutinize the multifaceted manners in which we relate to each other. His work recognizes the immediacy and impermanence of performance by embracing theatre as a living event. Who is in the room matters. The work becomes as alive as we are: conscious, truthful, and existing in that moment when we all gather to play. Ray is a performance artist, teaching artist, actor, and the Founder and Artistic Director of Michael Chekhov Center Cleveland. His focus has been on new and devised works. He has created pieces spanning theatre, cabaret, installation, web, and personal storytelling; served as performer-creator in numerous devised pieces; and originated over 30 roles. Ray's live work has been performed at Playhouse Square, Dobama Theatre, Cleveland Public Theatre, convergence-continuum, Playwrights Local, Talespinner Children’s Theatre, Theater Ninjas (Associate Artistic Director 2012-2015), and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Caspio appeared on Best of Theatre lists for Cleveland Scene Magazine (2014 & 2017) and WCPN/NPR’s The Sound of Applause (2014, for the conception and performance of the immersive cabaret exploration of gender, sexuality, and marriage equality, TingleTangle). In 2014, he was profiled as Scene’s “Thespian”. Ray’s training consists of the Michael Chekhov technique (Michael Chekhov School, Hudson, NY; MICHA: the Michael Chekhov Association), Bouffon (Giovanni Fusetti), Eccentric Performance (Avner Eisenberg & Julie Goell), the Alba Method, and Improvisation and Comedy Writing (Second City Chicago). LCCC to Hold Play Auditions and Host Civic Jazz Band Concert

LCCC Hosts Civic Jazz Band Concert Lorain County Community College's division of Arts and Humanities will host a Civic Jazz Band concert featuring big band sound led by Jeffrey Meyers at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Stocker Arts Center's Hoke Theatre. The "Big Band" is the jazz version of the classical symphony orchestra. It is the vehicle composers use for their grandest musical statements. The big band compositions of Duke Ellington, Charlie Mingus and others changed the musical landscape of jazz. The concert will follow the development of the big band, from non-existence, to its standing today as the grandest of jazz ensembles. Stocker Arts Center Hosts “Your Alien” Lorain County Community College’s Stocker Arts Center will present “Your Alien,” as part of its Student Matinee Series at 9:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7 in the Hoke Theatre of Stocker Arts Center. The 11:45 a.m. performance will be a sensory friendly performance, Based on the book, “Your Alien,” written by Tammi Sauer and illustrated by Goro Fujita, ArtsPower’s newest musical touches down with a stranded alien who strikes up a fabulous friendship with the boy who finds him. They go to school and have loads of fun together. As evening approaches, the alien grows homesick. Will the boy be able to figure out how to help his new friend? This funny and uplifting performance shows how the power of true friendship can last a lifetime. Tickets for the Stocker Student Matinee Series shows are $5 each. Dr. Christopher Hutton, Baritone, is taking new voice students and excited to get you physically and mentally prepared for auditions and performances. Dr. Hutton has a Masters Degree and Doctorate of Music Arts degrees in Vocal Pedagogy (Science of Singing) from Arizona State University, and is fluent in teaching both belting/music theatre technique and classical technique. Christopher attended Youngstown State University where he received his Bachelors in Voice Performance. He has also performed opera at regional opera houses for over thirteen years. Dr. Hutton offers free consultations to those interested before committing to the voice studio.
