What? Get Hep Swing presents - A swing dance party with Red Light Roxy When? Saturday, March 30th, 2019 Where? The Lithuanian Club, 877 E. 185th Street. Dance lessons? Yes. Join us for a beginner-friendly JITTERBUG lesson from 8-9 Band? Cleveland favorites, Red Light Roxy. The members of this band have been keeping swing dancers happy on the dance floor for over 20 years! Red Light Roxy is a professional band from Cleveland, Ohio that plays an upbeat mix of jazz standards, jump blues, swing, boogie-woogie and a dash of old-school R&B. Its repertoire comes from the Great American Songbook and includes familiar songs made famous by such legendary performers as Ella Fitzgerald, Ruth Brown, Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles and Louis Armstrong. Red Light Roxy has played at the Tri-C JazzFest, Wade Oval Wednesdays, Cain Park, Akron’s LOCK IV, the Shaker Heights Art and Music Festival, Legacy Village, Nighttown, Blu Jazz, the Bop Stop, the Rubber City Jazz Festival and a variety of city summer concerts and swing dances. https://www.redlightroxy.com/about-the-band/ Who may attend? EVERYONE is welcome! Do I need a partner? No, we rotate dance partners during the lesson. If you prefer not to rotate during the lesson, please help direct the other students past you each time we rotate. Everyone is really friendly and you will get asked to dance during the social dancing from 9-12. What do I wear? Wear shoes that allow you to pivot and turn easily. Some people find this floor a little slow so, wearing your leather soles or slippery soled shoes might be perfect. Attire is casual and comfy. Where what makes you feel good about yourself. What is the cost? $12 per person. $5 for first-time attendees. No pre-event ticket sales. Pay cash at the door. We welcome anyone to join us who has an interest in dance, music, socializing and fun. We don't care what your physical ability or size is, where you are in life, where you are on the spectrum of sexual or gender orientation, what color or creed, or non-creed, you are. Are you a man who wants to learn how to follow or a woman who wants to learn how to lead? That's cool! This idea is not new to the swing dance scene. We are the easiest club to join. Ever since then Landon continues to finds ways to stay close and rotate around the world of Ezra until the moment when he eventually melts into the only one who truly loves him. Him and his gang are a threat to the established gang led by Landon (Tooth). Is he in over his head? Sometimes oblivious to surroundings he finds himself in a heated battle of who's drugs are better. Iggy is romantically Involved with Indy. Indy, who is known as a Vixen. She seems a little shady. What could she be up to? Would Jamell the “Drug Jock of Cleveland” win this battle or are the cards stacked against him? Amonn Brothers POC Male Late/ Early 20s -- Known as the Heartbreaker, Amonn is at a crossroads. The long lasting friendship with Ezra maybe over. After Locking lips with Ezra one dark night, Amonn Uses the Friendship as a gateway to explore his sexuality by projecting his sexual aggression onto the only true friend he has had in a while. His masculinity is in question, but only by him. Will Amonn come out of the suppression and make a new life for himself? What happens when he finds out about Ezra and this Mystery guy Tooth? Detective. Oliver Vance POC Male Late 30s -- A sly overzealous detective wanting to solve the big drug case. This Character is cut and dry. He’s an off campus cop who is in a relationship with a mistress, could she be his downfall? Drugs have taking over cleveland’s west side, and it’s up to Oliver to make this wrong a right, but what happens when he becomes too close to the case. Clive Roberts Black Male Late 30s Businessman Clive is the CEO of a metal manufacturing company. Clive is blinded by all things money, He is soon to retire, leaving his only son to take over his job. Clive gives a heavy portion of drug distribution to Landon. “If you can’t handle some junkies, How can you handle a my millions?” A money hungry Clive will soon meet another side of Landon. CWRU Department of Dance Meridian Thesis Concert

Meridian- Spring 2019 Come support our graduate seniors thesis concert THIS WEEKEND!! Reserve your ticket before it sells out! This spring, the Department of Dance at Case Western Reserve University will continue its 2018-2019 season with Meridian, a thesis concert featuring dance works by MFA candidate Yizhen Hu, with additional works by guest artists and CWRU alumni Karlie Budge and Yidi Lin. Performances are March 28, 29, 30 at 8 p.m. and March 31 at 2:30 p.m. at Mather Dance Center on the Case Western Reserve University campus. Yearning, a solo work choreographed by Hu, explores the experience of people who are trapped by cultural and social restrictions, and find themselves enduring intense external pressure. As they find ways to overcome these forces in order to exert their own viewpoint, the result is finding their own paths and making their own choices. A duet for two men, Synergism, explores two males who both struggle in executing certain movements. Once they come to realize that one person can facilitate another to achieve the movements that the other cannot do, they cooperate and assist each other. Hu’s Amalgamation is an abstract group piece featuring an ensemble of undergraduate and graduate students. With music by Rob Power, the work displays the process of creating a movement idea, developing it, and then reducing it back to the original. Returning to the Mather Dance Center stage is Inevitable, which explores the emotional experiences of death and loss. Hu’s choreography investigates the struggles of grief and the frustrations of helplessness, along with the realization of the unavoidable mortality of human life. Between Us, choreographed by alumni Karlie Budge and Yidi Lin, is a duet in five sections - Sneaking, Frisking, Fleeting, Floating, Seething - portraying the forming and falling out of a relationship. Budge graduated in 2016 earning her BA in dance and Lin graduated in 2016 earning her MFA in dance. The work will be performed by Yizhen Hu and Katie Nabors. Meridian runs March 28, 29, 30 at 8 p.m. and March 31 at 2:30 p.m. All performances take place at Mather Dance Center, 11201 Bellflower Road, on the Case Western Reserve University campus. Tickets are $7 for students with ID, $10 for adults 60+ and CWRU personnel, and $15 for general admission. Oberlin Dance Intensive returns this summer, July 7-13. Now in its sixth year of programming, ODI offers students ages 13-17 the opportunity to dance with the professional dance artists of Neos Dance Theatre as well as Oberlin College’s distinguished faculty. Our talented and caring teachers, excellent dance and campus facilities, and highly engaged staff members are dedicated to providing positive and productive experiences for every student. Young dancers at all levels will benefit in many ways from the Oberlin Dance Intensive: -Training with Oberlin’s outstanding dance faculty, many of whom specialize in unique dance styles from around the world: Ballet, Contemporary, Samba, Jazz, Improvisation, Flamenco and West African Dance. -Neos dancers, some of the region’s most acclaimed performing artists, provide invaluable professional perspectives during technique classes and share insights about the creative process. Beyond dance training, participants experience an exciting taste of college life on Oberlin’s beautiful campus. They will also enjoy a charming, small town experience: -Students can choose to stay in Oberlin’s well-supervised and safe residence halls. Near West Theatre is starting a YOUTH CHORUS! Known as The Detroit Shoreway Youth Chorus, the ensemble will cover repertoire from classical to contemporary, all while mixing it up with our signature NWT flare! We are THRILLED to be expanding our FREE out of school time programming for kids ages 8-14, thanks to a partnership with Cleveland Opera Theater and a generous grant from Starting Point.
