Summer auditions and soon to be Fall auditions are here! Will you be prepared? Dr. Christopher Hutton, baritone, is taking new voice students and excited to get you physically and mentally prepared for auditions and performances. Dr. Hutton has a Masters Degree and Doctorate of Music Arts degrees in Vocal Pedagogy (Science of Singing) from Arizona State University, and is fluent in teaching both belting/music theatre technique and classical technique. Christopher attended Youngstown State University where he received his Bachelors in Voice Performance. He has also performed opera at regional opera houses for over thirteen years. Dr. Hutton offers free consultations to those interested before committing to the voice studio. You may contact Dr. Hutton via email at cjhutton70@yahoo. Lessons will prepare each student for school Regional and All-State auditions, theatre auditions and college auditions in voice performance and musical theater. Lesson options are as follows: One-Hour, Forty-Five minute, Thirty minute Lesson. Students range from all ages and those who have an interest in classical and musical theatre. Students consist of all ages and center around high school or younger who show an interest in performing at local theaters and their school choral and musical productions. FYI: One of the foremost actors of stage and screen, Austin Pendleton, will be at Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque, 11610 Euclid Ave. on September 21st at 2:00 pm. Admission $15; Cinematheque members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders, and those age 25 & under $12. Austin Pendleton will be starring in the Beck Center's production of Glengarry Glen Ross from 9/13 through 10/6. Individuals presenting a ticket to (or ticket stub from) that show will also pay only $12 to this event. Saturday, September 21, at 2:00 pm AN AFTERNOON WITH AUSTIN PENDLETON Austin Pendleton is one of the screen's foremost character actors, with almost 150 movie and TV credits to his name. He has had many memorable supporting roles during his 50+ year film career-from Max in The Muppet Movie and stuttering defense attorney John Gibbons in My Cousin Vinny to Gurgle in Finding Nemo and William Giles in Oz-and has worked with such directors as Orson Welles, Steven Spielberg, Billy Wilder, Alan Pakula, Otto Preminger, Barbra Streisand, and Mike Nichols, to name just a few. But Pendleton's greatest achievements are on the stage, where he has been a hardworking actor (he originated the role of Motel in Fiddler on the Roof in 1964), a Tony- and Obie-nominated director, an influential teacher, and a respected playwright. From: The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration Contact: Cameron Cabot, (330) 972-7895 or administration.arts(a)gmail.com UA THEATRE HOLDS AUDITIONS FOR BRECHT’S “ARTURO UI” Students and community members invited to audition for fall theatre production Akron, OH – The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration invites students and community members to audition for UA Theatre’s Fall MainStage production, “The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui,” written by Bertolt Brecht, adapted by Bruce Norris, and directed by UA Theatre professor James Slowiak. Auditions take place Monday, September 9, 2019 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM and Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM in Sandefur Theatre, Guzzetta Hall, located at 157 University Avenue, Akron OH (across the street from E.J. Thomas Hall). There will also be a UA Theatre Program “Meet and Greet” at 5:00 PM on Monday, September 9, 2019 before auditions. The “Meet and Greet” is open to all. A response to the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany prior to World War II, “The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui” functions as a satirical allegory, confronting notions of tyranny & corruption. The play is set in 1930s Chicago, a city of jazz and gangsters, prohibition and poverty, where conditions are right for the rise of a demagogue. Director James Slowiak says “We are looking for a diverse cast that is ready to take on the challenge of Brecht’s parable as part of our ‘Re(viewing) Tyranny’ 2019-2020 Season.” Non-traditional, integrated, or flipped casting will be utilized. For the audition, prepare a 2-minute monologue or rant. Be ready to move and to work with other members of your audition group. There will be no reserved time slots, so plan to stay for the entire block of time. Rehearsals begin Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 6:00 PM, and performance dates are October 31 to November 9, 2019.
