The irony of this Hell is that its torture is not of the rack and fire, but of the burning humiliation of each soul as it is stripped of its pretenses by the cruel curiosity of the damned. Here the soul is shorn of secrecy, and even the blackest deeds are mercilessly exposed to the fierce light of Hell. It is an eternal torment. Performance Dates are November 1, 2, 8, 9, 15 and 16. Auditions will be held on the 11th and 12th of August, with potential call-backs on the 14th. Rehearsals will begin September 15th and run Sunday thru Thursdays. The Show: A dynamic ensemble-based retelling of the famous Washington Irving short story. When the humble schoolteacher Ichabod Crane vies for the hand of the beautiful Katrina Van Tassel, the townsfolk might protest, but it is ultimately the Horseman who will decide his fate. Benjamin, Scenic and Lighting Designer April Rock, Costume Designer Carlton Guc, Sound Designer When: Sunday, September 8, 2019 3:00-5:30 pm and Monday, September 9, 2019 7:00-9:30 pm Callbacks: TBD Where: Lorain County Community College, Stocker Arts Center’s Cirigliano Studio Theatre, 1005 North Abbe Road, Elyria OH 44035 Note: Must be 18 years or older What to Prepare: · Memorize/Prepare a 32 bar cut in the style of the show. Have alternate selections prepared if needed. Overly optimistic at times. JANET: Female (Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt) Good girl who is madly in love with Brad. Always seems to be frightened of something. Keeps losing more of her clothes throughout the story. Emotionally weak and caves into pressure easily. NARRATOR: Any Gender (Range: Non-Singing Role) Follows our two hero’s through the story by narrating directly to the audience. RIFF RAFF: Male (Range: High Rock Tenor) Creepy man resembling more of a zombie. Often makes harmless conversation seem awkward and foreboding. One of Frank’s servants. COLUMBIA: Female (Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt) One of Frank’s servants. Tap dance experience preferred. FRANK 'N' FURTER: Any Gender (Range: Baritone) Master of the castle. Welcomes Janet and Brad with open arms. Obsessed with creating a man to be part of his sexual entourage. Master of seduction. ROCKY: Male (Range: Tenor) Frank’s magnificent creation. Sexually appealing with prominent muscles. EDDIE/DR. SCOTT: Male (Range: Baritone) Eddie, delivery man, “went to pieces.” Misses the rock and roll of life. Comes back to life only to die after his solo. Scott is Eddie’s Uncle. Roles could be split between two actors. 4 PHANTOMS – Any Gender Various Singers play many ensemble roles throughout the show. Should be able to harmonize well. All are part of “small-town Americana”. The play takes place in a dilapidated railroad station. *The characters are as follows:WomenHilda *- station master, 40’s-50’s *Maggie *- mail carrier, 20’s-50’s *Penelope* - editor/reporter for the town newspaper, 30’s-50’s *Myrna *- town mayor/choir master at local church, 40’s-60’s *Donna *- Jerry’s wife, 20’s-30’s *Debora* - Fairfax’s daughter, 30’s-50’s *Men:Satch* - Hilda’s assistant, 50’s-60’s *Leo Tannenbaum* - a visitor 60’s-70’s *Fairfax *- railroad executive/Debora’s father, 60’s-70’s *Jerry *- Donna’s husband, 20’s-30’s *Hilda, Satch, Maggie, Penelope and Myrna are required to sing acappella. * *The Story: *“This is the most hopeless place in the world!” Hilda intones as she and Satch argue over what time it is. Hilda dreams of faraway places to fight the tedium of running the Holly Railway Station until, that is, Leo Tannenbaum drops in out of nowhere just before Christmas. Suddenly an old radio springs to life and the local group of carolers begins to sound like the Morman Tabernacle Choir. The whole town now gets into the Christmas spirit. Coincidence? This nostalgic story is full of eccentric small-town characters who begin to discover the true wonder of Christmas, making us all wish that we, too, could take a ride on The Christmas Express.
