My Mother#*!^%#! College Life Auditions Avenue Arts Marketplace & Theatre announces auditions for MY MOTHER#*!^%#! COLLEGE LIFE Located at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton, Ohio 44702 SYNOPSIS:What’s in the minds and hearts of college students today? In 40 monologues and a few dialogues, this multicultural ensemble questions everything they encounter: social justice and gender identity, self-awareness and relationship boundaries, future prospects and roommate etiquette. What emerges is a humorous and heartbreaking portrait of a new generation struggling with higher education’s promise of “personal transformation.” Structured in three acts, the play begins with matriculation and ends with graduation. The monologues in Act I, titled “Great Expectations,” focus on encounters with new friends, financial aid, antidepressants, homework, sex, sleep deprivation and courses in physics and math. Act II, “Paradise Lost,” features parties, budding and broken relationships, unexpected encounters with race and religion, sexual orientation and hitting rock bottom. Act III, “Metamorphoses,” portrays students emerging from four years of challenge and change with surprising insights, political convictions and plans for a scary, uncertain future. The mixture of serious and comedic monologues captures the extreme difficulty—sometimes absurd and at other times overwhelming—of self-discovery and community-building. While the monologues convey the sense that students often feel alone in their quest for great success or simply survival, the ensemble itself presents a very different truth—at least they’re alone together. *My Mother#*!^%#! He is somewhat ashamed of his humble upbringing and has worked to mask it, especially after marrying Josh and coming into his wealth, which has made him slightly spoiled. He is deliberate in his actions and speech. Nothing he does or says is accidental. He is pointedly articulate. *This role requires full nudity, sexual content, mature language and drug use (vaping)* *Darius (male, any ethnicity, late 20s-early 30s) - *massage therapist who was born in Trenton, New Jersey, but grew up in Portland, Oregon. Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater, one of the oldest continuously running Youth Theaters in the country, will be holding auditions on October 5 & 6, 2019 for the second production of our 2019-2020 Season: Once Upon A Decade Written and Directed by Rachel Spence The Story: Cinderella in the 70's? Rapunzel in the 60's? Come enjoy this zany comedy as Beck Center preteens give a new meaning to “once upon a time” when they set all your favorite fairy tales and fables in different decades. This retro comedy will be the bee's knees, groovy and totally tubular! From the director of last year’s Law & Order: Nursery Rhyme Unit, and the author of the uproarious All Greek To Me. Audition/Callback dates: (open to Beck Center students ages 6 to 12*) * Saturday, October 5: 2:00 to 5:00pm & Sunday, October 6: 12:00 to 3:00pm * Callbacks: Monday, October 7 from 5:00 to 8:00pm You may sign up for a five minute audition slot at Beck Center Customer Service or by calling 216-521-2540 x10. *Please note: Youth Theater roles are only eligible to students who will be enrolled in our Fall 2019 semester.
