AUTOPOIESIS Written by Oana Leuca Directed by Erik Andrews Synopsis “Autopoiesis” is a short play in absurdist fashion that raises issues of social media addiction, beauty standards, and bullying. The action takes place in a cabaret, where Dana, a 60-year-old dancer, is doing a smokey-eyed tutorial on Facebook, while teaching 14-year-old Ana about the meaning of life. Harassed by the Scale-people, the Canary-beasts, and also by the netizens, Dana’s self-esteem problems worsen. She befriends DontExist, a 30 year-old female writer who thinks she is inside the heart of a giraffe. They lap-dance together, and start reflecting on love and life, while all the other characters around them scroll on their phones or even end up marrying their phones. Rationale: Watch the local and national news. Read theInternet. The media do not seem to address solutions to problems the communityand country continue to face. The mediaseem to perpetuate and exacerbate society’s negative issues by broadcasting andmagnifying society’s “uglies.” There is growingevidence that community members and the general public seem to be tired, agitated and frustrated with theconditions. However, they do not seem toknow what to do or how to counteract the negative energies and be able tocontribute what they can to effect positive change within themselves, theirfamilies and neighborhood. “A Brand New WUALDay! Miracles, Magic and Makeovers” attempts to provide the higher levelnon-traditional thinking, principles and practices individuals can use to makesuch change. Wake Up and Live’sActors’ Studio (WUAL) is launching its “Miracles, Magic and Makeovers” projectand inviting playwrights / creative writers to submit 7 - 10-minute inspirational scenariosto be performed in various venues. Submissions should: 1. Address the Concept: Turn Your Life into One of Joy Health,Wealth and Happiness! (What story is character telling?) 2. Scenarios should have only 1 – 3 characters. 3. Be suitable to be presented on “Wake Up AndLive With the Arts” YouTube show and / or on stage, and / or in workshops. 4. Be inspirational and uplifting. 5. Western Reserve Playhouse presents “Anne of Green Gables” from the novel L.M. Montgomery, adapted by Joseph Robinette Directed by Brianna Joi Synopsis: This new dramatization captures the charm and excitement of L.M. Montgomery's enduring classic about an orphan girl, Anne Shirley, from her first encounter with her austere guardian to her thrilling graduation from Queen's Academy. The play faithfully recreates the memorable events and characters from the brilliant novel. All the tragedies and triumphs that mark Anne's growth from adolescence to early adulthood are here: her friendship with Diana, her feuds with Gilbert, her adoration of Matthew, the mistaken wine bottle, the cake disaster, the broken leg, scholastic achievements, and the saving of Green Gables. Whether the playgoer is an "old friend" of Anne's or meeting her for the first time, this play will solidify a lasting friendship between the audience and one of literature's most unforgettable characters. The star studded cast is lead by Molly Kessler (Anne), Harriet DeVeto (Marilla), Tenley Stitzer (Diana), and Stephen Morse (Matthew).
