We are currently seeking to fill three positions within the CPH Theatre Academy in downtown Cleveland: CPH Theatre Academy Attendant Director/Choreographer, Musical Theatre Ensemble course Music Director, Musical Theatre Ensemble course CPH Theatre Academy Attendant Department: Education   Supervisors: Academy and Curriculum Manager   Description: The CPH Theatre Academy Attendant will serve as a source of communication between Academy leaders, students, and parents. They will also help with registration, Academy planning, and scheduling.   Responsibilities Include: * Serving as the main point of contact for registration and check-in for all classes. Market St., Akron 44304* Sony Ton-Aime is a Haitian poet, essayist, and translator. He holds an MFA in poetry from the NEOMFA (Kent State University) program in Ohio. He is the author of one chapbook, LaWomann (Ironworks Press, 2019), and the upcoming translation of the book Olympic Hero: The Lennox Kilgour’s Story in Haitian Creole. He is the co-founding editor of ID13 -- a chapbook and online publication. He has been awarded fellowships from the Wick Poetry Center and the Chautauqua Literary Arts Center. His work (poems, essays, fiction) centers around his home country, and its place in the current postcolonial era. He is interested in troubling the idea of tradition -- experimenting with European poetic and literary forms thrust upon Haitians so that he may subvert them in favor of possible alternatives, better suited to rendering his experience through a decolonized lens. ‘Shakespeare’s R & J’ at con-con a muddled retelling of the classic tragedy Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Shakespeare’s tragic love story “Romeo and Juliet” has proven itself to be a particularly pliable and resilient piece of work. Its story has, among other things, been retold through dance by the Royal Ballet and as an opera at the Théâtre Lyrique, turned into a musical by Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim (“West Side Story”), and made into movies featuring zombies (“Warm Bodies”), martial artists (“Romeo Must Die”) and CGI garden figurines (“Gnomeo & Juliet”). Joe Calarco’s abridged reimagining, “Shakespeare’s R & J,” is true to the Elizabethan telling in that it is in play form and features an all-male cast. But it is particularly inspired by a line found in Act 2, Scene 2 of the text – “Love goes toward love as schoolboys from their books” – for this tale is told by four boys late at night in the dormitory of a repressive Catholic boarding school. This is an intriguing addition to the Shakespeare-inspired canon, but its lengthy run Off-Broadway suggests that it is a better play than what con-con has put into production. Casting will be held this Saturday, September 14th, from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. at the School of Film and Media Arts, 13375 Euclid Ave, 6th Floor, Room 660. The purpose of this event is to bring local and aspiring actors to the attention of our students who can use their skills for their forthcoming projects. If anyone is interested they must prepare the following: 1. A 1-2 minute prepared monologue 2. Event: German Brass band concert in Brunswick on Sept. 17

University of Braunschweig Brass band concert will be at Brunswick High School (3581 Center Rd, Brunswick, OH 44212) on Tuesday, September 17th at 7pm. The school is located on Rt. 303 about a mile west of I-71. A $5 donation will be requested at the door, and proceeds will go to the German Cultural Gardens in Cleveland. We hope to see many of you at the concert! The Band, with its 65 student musicians, is touring 8 U.S. cities and presents a very entertaining program with modern arrangements of music from movies and musicals, rock and pop music, and much more.
