Join us for a jitterbug lesson that is appropriate for dancers of all levels from 8-9 with Get Hep Swing owner and swing dance champion, Valerie Salstrom. Seeking a charismatic, energy-filled (wacky is good, too!) individual to host a multimedia Science series. You don’t have to be a science whiz, as long as you’re not sciencephobic. Everything you’ll need to know will be scripted out for you and you can always add your own two ions to the pot! Here’s the submission process: send us a video of you presenting a science-oriented activity. It doesn’t have to be long (maybe, a minute or two), it doesn’t even have to be accurate – we just want to get a feel for your on-screen style. We really don’t care how young or old you are -- though, wacky, wonderful and wild are preferred. Shoot it with your phone, don’t worry about lighting or sound quality – just do your thing! Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) opens its 2019-2020 World Tour of Music weeklong residency from October 21-26, 2019, with Shashmaqam, a New York-based ensemble recognized in their native Uzbekistan and Tadzhikistan for their extraordinary musical talent. Their music reflects Central Asia’s ethnic eclecticism: Uzbek, Tadjik, Afghan and Azerbaijani songs and melodies are brought together in a lively program that is at once exotic and accessible to Western listeners. The ensemble will be conducting school outreach programs at Black River, Cloverleaf, Medina and Highland School Districts during the week. There will be four opportunities to experience Shashmaqam in a more intimate workshop setting. The first is Tuesday, October 22 at The Wooster Public Library at 7 pm. Next is Wednesday, October 23 at the Medina Library at 7 pm. The Western Reserve Masonic Community on Nettleton Road in Medina will host the third workshop on Thursday, October 24 at 10 am. The last workshop is at Brunswick Library the same day at 7 pm. The workshops are free and open to the public. The big concert for the community/region takes place at Highland High School Auditorium, 4150 Ridge Road, Medina, on October 26, 2019, at 8 pm. Advanced tickets are $12. My Mother#*!^%#! College Life Auditions Avenue Arts Marketplace & Theatre announces auditions for MY MOTHER#*!^%#! COLLEGE LIFE Located at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton, Ohio 44702 SYNOPSIS:What’s in the minds and hearts of college students today? In 40 monologues and a few dialogues, this multicultural ensemble questions everything they encounter: social justice and gender identity, self-awareness and relationship boundaries, future prospects and roommate etiquette. What emerges is a humorous and heartbreaking portrait of a new generation struggling with higher education’s promise of “personal transformation.” Structured in three acts, the play begins with matriculation and ends with graduation. The monologues in Act I, titled “Great Expectations,” focus on encounters with new friends, financial aid, antidepressants, homework, sex, sleep deprivation and courses in physics and math. Act II, “Paradise Lost,” features parties, budding and broken relationships, unexpected encounters with race and religion, sexual orientation and hitting rock bottom. Act III, “Metamorphoses,” portrays students emerging from four years of challenge and change with surprising insights, political convictions and plans for a scary, uncertain future. The mixture of serious and comedic monologues captures the extreme difficulty—sometimes absurd and at other times overwhelming—of self-discovery and community-building. While the monologues convey the sense that students often feel alone in their quest for great success or simply survival, the ensemble itself presents a very different truth—at least they’re alone together. *My Mother#*!^%#! College Life is produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Illinois.* Directed by: David Lee Auditions will be held on Tuesday, October 15th and Wednesday, October 16th from 7-9pm Callbacks (if necessary) will take place on Thursday, October 17th. All auditioners are asked to come prepared to cold read from the script.
