Do you know a kid who likes to act? Sing? Write? Is just plain energetic? Near West Theatre's free after school theatre arts program is here to engage and empower them! Rise! is starting up on Monday 9/30 and will last throughout the school year on a rolling basis. Participants will embark on a project to learn acting and movement, write a script (they'll be going into the Shoreway community to hear stories), and make lasting friendships! The program is for ages 9 - 15 and meets Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4:00-5:30pm. Healthy snacks are provided daily. The Detroit Shoreway Youth Chorus Who: Youth in grades 3 - 8 What: Learn vocal performance skills (vocal technique), music literacy (reading music), sing contemporary and classic music, WRITE songs, put on concerts, and make friends! Where: Near West Theatre When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00 - 5:30pm. This program is continuous, meaning youth can join on a rolling basis. Concerts and other performance opportunities happen intermittently throughout the year. How: Through a collaboration between Near West Theatre, Cleveland Opera Theater, and Starting Point, we are able to offer this program free of charge. Seat of the Pants Seeks 3 Child / Youth Actors for WATCH ON THE RHINE

Seat of the Pants Productions is casting 3 child / youth roles for our May 2020 Production of Lillian Hellman's WATCH ON THE RHINE. We are specifically looking for: - a young male who can play 15-17 - a young female who can play 12-13 - a young male who can play 9-10 All three roles are significant, so actors should have some experience with being on stage and memorizing lines. As the characters are German, we will also be doing some accent work and occasionally speaking in another language. The show runs May 22-30 - for 6 performances - Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and then Thursday, Friday, Saturday at Weathervane Playhouse in Akron, Ohio. Rehearsals will begin around April 12, 2020 and will take place 5-6 times a week on weekday evenings and weekend mornings / afternoons in Akron and Cleveland. Young actors will not be called for all rehearsals until we get closer to the performances. Roles are paid. Improvisational solo and ensemble sessions will cover principles such as creative concentration, imagination, The Four Brothers, Qualities of Movement, Imaginary Centers, Imaginary Body, Atmosphere, Space, Expanding & Contracting, and Psychological Gesture.
