(M, 20s) Mrs Rogers- the cook/housekeeper and Thomas Rogers' wife, a pale and ghost-like woman who walks in mortal fear. (F, 40s+) General John Gordon MacArthur - a retired World War I war hero, who sent his late wife's lover (a younger officer, Arthur Richmond) to his death by assigning him to a mission where it was practically guaranteed he would not survive. (M, 50s+) Rogers - the butler and Ethel Rogers' husband. He dominates his weak-willed wife, and they killed their former employer by withholding her medicine, causing the woman to die from heart failure, thus inheriting the money she bequeathed them in her will. (M, 40s+) Emily Caroline Brent - an elderly, pious spinster who accepts the vacation on Soldier Island largely due to financial constraints. Years earlier, she had dismissed her teenage maid for becoming pregnant out of wedlock. Beatrice, who had already been rejected by her parents for the same reason, drowned herself, which Miss Brent considered an even worse sin. (F, 50s+) Dr Edward George Armstrong - a fussy doctor, responsible for the death of a patient after he operated on her while drunk many years earlier. (M, 40s+) William Henry Blore - a former police inspector and now a private investigator. Blore arrives under the alias "Davis" from South Africa, on the island for "security work." (M, Late 30s - 40s) Philip Lombard - a soldier of fortune. Lombard is accused of causing the deaths of a number of East African tribesmen, after stealing their food and abandoning them to their deaths. (M, 30s-40s) Vera Elizabeth Claythorne - a cool, efficient, resourceful young woman who is on leave from her position as a sports mistress at a third-rate girls' school. (F, 20s-30s) Justice Wargrave - a retired judge, known as a "hanging judge" for liberally awarding the death penalty in murder cases. (M, 50s+) Fred Narracott - the boatman who delivers the guests to the island. Gabriel was a soldier in the Second World War, during which he received a head injury that required a metal plate to be surgically implanted into his head. Gabriel wanders around the Maxson family's neighborhood carrying a basket and singing. He often thinks he is not a person, but the angel Gabriel who opens the gates of heaven with his trumpet for Saint Peter on Judgment Day. Gabriel exudes a child-like exuberance and a need to please. *Cory Maxson (male, African-American, late teens-early 20s) - *Troy and Rose Masons’ son. A senior in high school. An ambitious young man who has the talent and determination to realize his dreams, Cory comes of age during the course of the play when he challenges and confronts Troy and leaves home. *This role requires onstage violence* *Raynell Maxson (female, African-American, 7-10yo) - *Troy's illegitimate child, mothered by Alberta, his lover, who passed away while giving birth. This role requires mature language and simulated alcohol use Ellie (female, any ethnicity, late teens-early 20s) - Charlie’s daughter whom he hasn’t seen since she was a baby; a deeply intelligent, deeply cynical teenager who feels—probably accurately—that she is always the smartest person in the world; very manipulative and shrewd, has convinced herself that she doesn’t care about her ailing father; never valley-girl or sarcastic and eye-rolling, doesn’t say things to be mean, she says them because they are true. This role requires mature language and simulated drug use (marijuana) Elder Thomas (male, any ethnicity, late teens-early 20s) - a Mormon missionary who happens upon Charlie just as he has his first cardiac episode; a somewhat naïve, innocent young man who just wants to see Mormonism help one person before he ends his mission; makes a big effort to be a good Mormon boy, but underneath it all he’s a normal disaffected, pot-smoking Midwestern teenager. SEEKING STAGE MANAGER Playwrights Local <http://www.playwrightslocal.org/> seeks a stage manager for a new play, Sanzaru, written by Greg A. Smith and directed by Erik Andrews. This workshop production will run for one weekend only, February 14 - 16, at Waterloo Arts in Cleveland. Find info on the show at http://www.playwrightslocal.org/sanzaru/. This workshop-level production will have a light rehearsal process beginning on January 20. Duties will include the usual stage management responsibilities such as attending rehearsals and noting blocking, as well as light board op work during the short run of three performances. ACTOR FACTORY OHIO presents the "Experimental Film Experience" series. The first of the series will be a film, this year, to be shot on a cell phone AND scripted by the actors in the scene to ad lib from the writer's treatment/outline. Cast & crew needed. ALL involved will be credited and share profits later if idea takes off (for now just experimental).....although recently full length features have been shot on iPhones. This is a passion project so it is unpaid but the schedule will be well-managed as to not require a lot of your time.
