FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jordan Malin, Producer Quarantine Radio Hour 19 Recreates Vintage Radio Plays Content Available to the General Public for Free CLEVELAND, OH (Apr. 2, 2020) -- Quarantine Radio Hour 19, a newly-founded group of theatre artists from across the United States, proudly announces the release of their series of radio dramas and melodramas. The content, which is styled after broadcasts from the Golden Age of Radio, is being offered to the public at no cost. The weekly broadcasts will be accessible through a number of commonly-used platforms, including Facebook, SoundCloud, and Google Drive. Quarantine Radio Hour 19 comprises actors, writers and technicians from the world of live theatre, whose projects have been cancelled in the wake of COVID-19. Their mission is to provide entertainment and comfort to audiences whose resources and mental health may be strained at this time--particularly those older citizens who are confined to nursing homes and assisted living facilities. As live events are cancelled for the foreseeable future, the artists aim to put their talents to use in a way that gives back to the communities in which they reside. Says Jordan Malin, the group’s organizer: “I had posted on Facebook asking if anyone in senior living facilities, or just those living alone, would want to be entertained. They were most likely scared and lonely. I honestly had no idea so many of my theatre friends--past and present--would want to be involved. Since so many of us involved in the Arts are out of work right now, we are also getting an opportunity to create, express. It gives us time to escape for awhile, and we hope it does the same for those listening.” The first episode, a public domain script entitled “The Scrap of Lace,” was produced by actors and sound technicians working remotely from Cleveland, OH, Denver, CO, Chicago, IL, Auburn, NY, East Dummerston, VT, and New York City. From coordinating rehearsals to navigating the recording process, replicating a vintage art form in the digital age has presented its fair share of challenges. Kimberly Weston, director, says: "The hardest part seems to be the technical aspects of the show. I'm definitely diving deep into the internet archives for fitting sound and music bits. But the spirit of the broadcast is vibrant in the community of theatre artists volunteering to "put on a show" in the midst of chaos and isolation. Many of the company members haven't spoken directly in years, but we're finding a way to communicate across the country. And we want to share that with people not as lucky. " Quarantine Radio Hour 19 is a community resource. As such, sharing of the broadcasts is encouraged and welcome. No express requests for permission are necessary. We are still seeking Skit and Scene Submissions, so that, pending the Coronova Virus crisis, we may still be able to move ahead with our inspirational “Miracles, Magic and Makeovers” Performance Project. Seeking Skit and Scene Writers for Inspirational “Miracles, Magic and Makeovers” Performance Project. Submissions Deadline: Friday, May 8. (Please share with your directors, students, casts, social media.) Wake Up and Live’s Actors’ Studio (WUAL) is launching its “Miracles, Magic and Makeovers” project and inviting skit, scene, playwrights and creative writers to submit 12 - 15-minute inspirational scenarios to be performed on Cleveland area stages and on “Wake Up and Live With the Arts.” Cuyahoga Arts and Culture has awarded WUAL a grant for our “Miracles, Magic and Makeovers to Live Your Personal and Career Life on a Higher Level' project. The grant will enable WUAL to perform original scenes and skits in live stage events and on “Wake Up And Live With the Arts.” Stories the actors tell will portray Universal principles, such as visualization, meditation and affirmations individuals can practice to change their minds and behaviors to eliminate limiting beliefs and self-sabotage and create transformational life changes.. “Miracles, Magic and Makeovers" Skit and Scene Submissions should: Address the Concept: Turn Your Life and Career into One of Joy, Health, Wealth and Happiness! 1. What story is character telling? . Describe some CHALLENGES the character/s have overcome, and / or are currently experiencing . How the character keeps working on addressing them . How & Why the character wants to make changes . Examples of topics which reflect Conflict . Financial Independence . Healthy, Happy Relationships (Getting Rid of Toxic People and Situations) . Manifesting Life and Career Dreams . Living Your Best Life. "Miracles, Magic and Makeovers:" The Law of Attraction . Abuse (Domestic, Addictions, Employment, Elder, Etc.) Guidelines: 2. Scenes and skits should have only 1 – 3 characters. 3. Be suitable to be performed on stage and / or on“Wake Up And Live With the Arts” YouTube show. 4. Be inspirational and uplifting. Offer hope. 5. Offer a non-traditional, thought-provoking approach to answers and problem-solving strategies to address life changes. 6. Typed in current, standard play writing format. (Margins, Font, Title page, Cast of characters, Character descriptions, Setting, Page numbers, etc.) IF Selected: 1. 12 - 15 minute Scenes & Skits will be performed on stage and on “Wake Up And Live With the Arts” 2. TMP SUMMER INTENSIVE 2020PRE-PROFESSIONAL (12 - 18 YRS)VIDEO AUDITION SUBMISSION OPEN NOW! This one week intensive is geared for serious-minded dancers interested in furthering themselves as creative artists and who wish to deepen and grow their technical and performance knowledge. This intensive provides a rigorous daily schedule in professional training, creative practice and rehearsals taught by TMP artistic directors, company members, as well as notable guest artists in the dance community. The program will focus on modern dance technique, contemporary, ballet, improvisation, composition, injury prevention and somatic practices. In addition to movement courses, the program includes courses designed to prepare young artists for a career in dance, such as, resume building, dance on film and marketing. As part of our marketing course, each artist will receive dance action shots for their portfolio. Dancers who participate in the summer intensive are also eligible to become a TMP community ambassador for the 2020-2021 season. In these unprecedented times, the dance community including pre-professional, collegiate & professional dancers, teachers & choreographers have all been impacted in a way that many have never experienced in their lifetimes. With this in mind we are grateful to announce The Movement Project's Cleveland Dance Fest <http://www.themovementproject.org/cdf2020-app> is set to return for its 5th season, November 6th & 7th, 2020 at the beautiful Pilgrim Church in Tremont! The 2-day festival will feature master classes by CDF artists and performances featuring Cleveland dance artists, visiting artists and pre-professional artists. CDF 2020 will be taking applications for performance pieces and dance films starting April 1st, 2020. CDF has four applications this year for artists to apply.
