Cleveland Public Theatre announces auditions for the World Premiere of Panther Women: An Army for the Liberation Written & Directed by India Nicole Burton, CPT Artistic Associate Looking to cast... 3-4 African American Women (over the age of 18) who can sing and dance and come with an open mind. The piece is highly physical and actors are present onstage for the entire play. Equity agreements may be considered for this production. Disclosure: Many roles in the production have already been cast. The current cast includes Courtney L. Black, Maya Nicholson, DayShawnda Ash, and Chennelle Bryant-Harris, Zyrece Montgomery. About The Play... Through the lens of an African American woman who has decided to take a journey to understand herself more, the play uses the stories of 3 prominent women, who were a part of the Black Panther Party and Liberation movement of the 60's and 70's. The play uses their stories as a catalyst to explore the dilemmas, obstacles, and joy of African American woman in general. The play is a high energy, movement piece with poetry, monologues, dance, and song. Panther Women: An Army for the Liberation was originally created and devised at Cleveland Public Theatre in 2018 as a workshop presentation. This workshop was made possible through a grant from the National New Play Network. CPT also produced workshops in 2019, 2020, and the summer of 2021. In 2020, Panther Women was invited to The Prop Thtr's Rhinoceros Festival (Chicago, Illinois). About The Process... This rehearsal process will be non-conventional in nature. There will be a lot of abstract movement and you will have to create some of the movement. We will work on character development; however, it is more important that you allow yourself to be open and vulnerable. This play can be triggering and call for self-reflection and reflection of the world in which you exist as a Black Woman. You will also be asked to sing and dance, working with a vocal coach and choreographer. Actors will be expected to make strong proposals, be generous, and meet deadlines given. Actors will be expected to work as an ensemble through a series of devised exercises given by director or assistant director. Rehearsals will begin on or around December 6th. Rehearsals are 5-6 times a week, with evening weekday rehearsals and some daytime weekend rehearsals. Performances begin with a preview on Feb 4th with an opening on Feb 11th. The production runs from February 4th - February 26th, Thurs/Fri/Sat at 7:30pm and on Sun, Feb 13 at 3:00pm in the Gordon Square Theatre. Important Information about The Play... This play contains explicit language, sexual innuendoes, and discusses race relations. COVID-19 Safety Protocols All auditioners must be vaccinated, with at least one vaccine administered, before your scheduled audition. All performers and members of the production and creative team must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Auditions... Cleveland-based Qin Ying Tan, a historical keyboardist, pianist and baroque dancer, will give Medina County audiences two opportunities to hear her play in October. On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, in collaboration with the Medina County District Library, Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) will showcase Singapore-born Tan in a live stream Zoom program, which begins at 6:30 pm. *The program includes a set* of suites from the Baroque era, as well as newly written dance-inspired compositions from the 20th century. If you are a previous season ticket holder you may call now for tickets! 440-988-5613 Our first show will be PANACHE By Don Gordon Directed By Pat Price In his off-Broadway hit comedy, Panache, playwright Don Gordon creates an unusual relationship between Harry, a fry cook cum artist, depressed by a tragic event in his life, and Kathleen, an upper-class married woman, who turns up at his shabby apartment on an unlikely mission: to obtain the personalized license plate reading PANACHE that has already been issued to Harry. Surely Harry was meant to receive the plate PANCAKE that the DMV has sent her. Harry has his reasons for refusing to exchange plates. Kathleen resolves to use her feminine charms and her checkbook to make Harry fork over the goods. But nothing is simple, and what begins as a ridiculous squabble over a seemingly unimportant matter turns into a poignant, funny, and bumpy ride toward the mending of two broken lives. *Beck Center Announces Auditions for….* ELF The Musical Open Call auditions will be held by appointment on *Sunday, Oct. 3rd* and *Monday, Oct. 4th* beginning at 5PM both days. Auditions will occur at Beck Center in Lakewood. The production team will also be accepting video submissions for this open call if that method is preferred. Callbacks (weekend of Oct. 9/10) *WILL* be held on site however. *WHAT TO PREPARE* Whether auditioning on site or via video submission, all we’ll need is 1 or 2 brief songs totaling no more than 90 seconds. No monologues needed. Please bring sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided. *HOW TO AUDITION* On site appointments can be made by calling the Beck Center Box Office during normal business hours at 216-521-2540 x10. Video submissions should be sent to ScottS(a)beckcenter.org no later than Sat., October 2nd. *SHOW INFORMATION* *{Performances} * *ELF *will open Friday, Dec. 3rd and close Sunday, Jan. 2nd. We are inviting actors, singers, dancers, musicians, poets, etc. to submit a 1 – 2 minute video audition demonstrating how their performance genre can be used to help those with mental health issues get relief from their challenges. The artist’s actual performance should be performed within 3 – 5 minutes.
