Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater, will be holding auditions this weekend for Honk! Jr. Music by George Stiles Book and Lyrics by Anthony Drewe Directed and Music Directed by Jordan Cooper Choreographed by Sarah Clare In this witty and hilarious, but also deeply moving show, Ugly looks quite a bit different from his siblings. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother's protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters, and finds out that being different is not a bad thing to be. This heartwarming show is perfect for all ages young, old, and everything between! Students enrolled in a Winter/Spring 2021 semester online or in person class in Beck Center’s Dance, Music, Visual Arts, and Creative Arts Therapies Departments are equally eligible. Bottom line: if you are accepting a role in the show, you will need to enroll prior to the start of rehearsals. What to Prepare: · Students are asked to prepare a musical theater song that features their vocal range- up to one minute long. *Students should have a karaoke track with their song on a separate device to sing along to. · Students are asked to prepare a short monologue- up to one minute long to present as their audition piece. Memorization is strongly encouraged. · Prepare a headshot or picture of your student, and resume for online submission · Please prepare a list of all potential rehearsal, recording, and performance conflicts for online submission Potential Rehearsals: March 21 – May 18, 2021 · Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fri: between 4:30 – 9:00pm · Saturdays: between 3:00 – 8:00pm · Sundays: between 1:00-4:00pm The show will NOT be rehearsing every day or the full time range listed. Kennelly Review: Beck & BW 5X15: Five Brand New Musicals

This freezing February pandemic winter, the Beck Center and the Baldwin Wallace University Music Theatre program have united to offer five brief dramatic and musical looks to keep us busy. Each 15-minute production previews works created during the forced isolation endured this last year. Scott Spence (Beck Center) and Victoria Bussert and Matthew Webb (BW) are to be commended for allowing “the show to go on” despite having to go virtual this year. One very good thing about the Beck Center video tickets is that they are good for 48 hours. Find a favorite? Watch it again. Can’t do that in a theater — at least not right away and on the same ticket. More questions are asked in these short plays than answers are given, but they are important questions — and perhaps ones with no quick answers. All five musicals were winners in the recent National Alliance of Music Theatre (NAMT) challenge. The shows described below are in the order presented on the video. STATION HOPE 2021 REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS Cleveland Public Theatre is planning the eighth annual STATION HOPE, a one night event of entertainment and art inspired by the history of St. John's Episcopal Church and the Underground Railroad, the repercussions of oppression, and contemporary struggles for social justice, on Saturday, May 1, 2021. HOW STATION HOPE WORKS: Audiences will explore a virtual compilation of original artwork. With many performances to choose from, viewers will experience multi-disciplinary performances and visual art. Station Hope performances will be 3-10 minutes in length that may be shown multiple times throughout the event. Some pieces may be selected to be viewed in the "Road to Hope series." These videos will be shown on select days leading up to Station Hope on May 1. ________________________________ HOW TO GET INVOLVED Station Hope is a large and complex project, and we need a lot of support to ensure its success. There are many opportunities to be involved, ranging from creative to technical assistance. Below is a list of different ways to participate in the event: * Lead Artist: Lead a team of collaborators (or work individually) to create and film an original piece of theatre, performance, choral, or visual art. A Lead Artist can be an individual or an organization. Lead Artists will be selected through an application process, outlined at the end of this document. * Actor: There may be opportunities in a variety of performances. CPT will compile and share an "Interested Actor" list with all Lead Artists. Casting decisions are in the complete control of the Lead Artists. They pay little attention to him or each other. One day their child goes missing & they don’t notice — not right away. Not for a while. Two detectives take up the missing case. Jane & John are left to contemplate their role as parents (absent parents) & begin to lose trust in each other. Their relationship grows strange. The longer their child is missing, the more they break down. The more the detectives break down. & the further & further away the missing child seems. That difficulty is expanded when the staging is restricted by the electronic medium. The BW/Beck evening of one-act musicals proved to be both a pleasurable and frustrating evening.
