Synopsis Heirloom is a non-fiction solo performance about four generations of my extended maternal family that’s based on interviews and historical records. Beginning with my mother and her siblings, and moving on to her father and grandfather’s lives, it examines the social and emotional inheritance of an extended family affected by incest, alcoholism, violence and genocide. It attempts to shed understanding on how any single person may affect the generation of family members that follow him or her and to glean a greater understanding of the dynamics of incest and rape. *SHADOW OF THE RUN * *presents* DreamWalkers *Premiering live and in person on June 25, in Bedford, OH* BEDFORD, Ohio – May 2021 – Shadow of the Run LLC (SotR) Co-Founders Adam Kern, Beth McGee, Ben Needham and Christine Woods announced that their Immersive Theatre project *DreamWalkers, *will premiere live and in person in a limited engagement in June and July 2021 in the City of Bedford. *DreamWalkers* is SotR’s fourth production in Cleveland. Since their first production, *Shadow of the Run – Chapter 1: WanderLust* premiered in June 2019, followed by *RAILROADED: A Shadow of the Run Story*, and *The Torso Book Club*, a virtual immersive that raised $5,000 for Cleveland local artists that lost work due to the Covid-19 pandemic. She decided to become a playwright when a typewriter was delivered to their house by mistake. Since that time this accidental playwright has spent much of her time writing works with titles such as Poison Gas. *Essie:* The daughter of Penelope and Paul, granddaughter of Martin Vanderhof, and wife of Ed, Essie is a pixie in toe shoes. At the age of twenty-nine, she wants to be a dancer in the worst way--and, according to any unbiased observer, that is exactly what she is. The eternal student, she takes lessons from Boris Kolenkhov and is constantly dancing across the living room. *Rheba:* The maid in the Vanderhof household, she probably understands this unusual family better than anyone. *Paul Sycamore: *The husband of Penelope and father of Essie, Paul Sycamore is in his mid-fifties, but with a kind of youthful air. His quiet charm and mild manner are distinctly engaging. However, under that unassuming exterior lies a man who lives for his fireworks--the ones he manufactures in the cellar. *Mr. De Pinna: *Years ago Mr. De Pinna was delivering ice to the Vanderhof home--and just decided to stay. Now the mad genius of pyrotechnics helps out Paul in the cellar. *Ed: *The husband of Essie, Ed is a nondescript young man in his mid-thirties. However, he has two passions: the printing press and the xylophone. *Donald: *Rheba’s boyfriend, Donald spends a lot of comfortable time at the Vanderhof home. *Martin Vanderhof: *The patriarchal head of the family, Grandpa Martin Vanderhof is about seventy-five, a man whom the years have treated kindly. He is a man who made his peace with the world long, long ago, and his whole attitude and manner are quietly persuasive of this. He does, however, have a long-standing “disagreement” with the Internal Revenue Service. *Alice: *The daughter of Penelope and Paul and sister of Essie, Alice is a lovely, fresh young girl of about twenty-two. Because she is a secretary in a Wall Street office, she is in daily contact with the world and seems to have escaped the tinge of mild insanity that pervades the rest of the family; however, her familial devotion and love are readily apparent. In the course of the play she is engaged to marry Tony Kirby, her boss’s son. *Tony Kirby: *The boyfriend and later fiancé of Alice, Tony Kirby is a personable young man not long out of Yale and Cambridge. Although he fits all the physical requirements of a boss’s son, his face (and his spirit) has something of the idealist in it, invoking in him a certain fondness for the Vanderhofs’ quirkiness. *Boris Kolenkhov: *Essie’s dance teacher, Boris Kolenkhov is a hearty, explosive, Russian ballet-master. *Mr. Kirby: *Tony’s father and Alice’s boss in the Wall Street office, Mr. Kirby is a successful businessman who wants his son to follow in his footsteps; thus, he is very disapproving of the Vanderhof family and of his son’s engagement to Alice. *Mrs. Kirby: *Tony’s mother, Mrs. Kirby is of the same mind and temperament as her husband.

Or so it is assumed. The world knows the great detective went over the falls at Reichenbach with his nemesis Professor Moriarty. But as Holmes’ body was never retrieved, a number of frauds, fakes and charlatans have come forward since to lay claim to his identity, and it falls to Dr. Watson to disprove them. Then a telegram arrives informing Watson that three men, each claiming to be Holmes, have been committed to a remote asylum off the coast of Scotland. Now Watson must discover if one of the mad men is the real Sherlock Holmes. - Three men are masquerading as Sherlock. We’re hoping to find a few men of similar build, tall and thin. - The script calls for one of the would-be Holmeses to have a shaved head. - All ethnicities will be considered. - We will try to keep people socially distanced during auditions. If there are people who prefer to audition via Zoom or some other method, that can be arranged. - We will have the first table read at 1:30 on Sunday 18 July. - Rehearsals will begin a few weeks later, at the beginning of August. *All rehearsals and performances will be in person.* *CHARACTERS* Dr. Evans: Male, 40-59 clean-shaven; silky, officious; intelligent and is divulged at the end of the play as being the true Dr. Watson; must have expertise in British Dialects. Watson: Male, 40-59 Similar to Evans, but with a mustache Holmes 1: Male, 40-59 tall, thin, angular; acerbic and aggressive; quite insistent; he is divulged at the end to be a Captain in the navy, but makes and extremely convincing Holmes; also plays: Signor Fonseca, a masked character; must have expertise in British Dialects as well as Spanish/’European’ accent for Fonseca Holmes 2: Male, 40-59 tall, thin, angular; anxious; vulnerable at times as he believes he has committed a murder; in the end he is divulged to be an actor who is very convincing in playing Holmes; must have expertise in British Dialects. Holmes 3 : Male, 40-59 tall, thin, angular; cool, impenetrable; apparently suffering from hysterical deafness due to trauma. He is able to speak through hypnosis; later in the story it is revealed that he is only acting under the pretense of being deaf; he is not actually Holmes, but a distant cousin; also plays: The Client, a masked character; does not speak; must have expertise in British Dialects. Orderly: Male, 40-59 tall, thin, angular; but with physical power; mustache, sideburns; rough, abrupt; most likely a working class accent as orderly; also plays: Moriarty: 60s; tall, cold, menacing; at end or the story is revealed to be the real Sherlock Holmes; must have expertise in British Dialects. Radio on the Lake Theatre presents The Day the Earth Stood Still

Radio on the Lake Theatre, the only professional theater company in Northeast Ohio exclusively dedicated to the illumination of the radio play, will present Sci-Fi Summer, two evenings of live radio plays performed outdoors at the company's studio at 18516 Scottsdale Blvd. in Shaker Heights. On June 26 at 7:30 pm, the company will perform The Day the Earth Stood Still. The radio play adaptation of the classic 1951 film was first presented by the Lux Radio Theatre, and tells the story of a humanoid alien visitor, accompanied by a powerful robot, who must deliver an important message that will affect the entire human race. On July 31 at 7:30 pm, ROTLT will present two plays - the H.G. Wells classic The Time Machine, followed by The Hitchhiker, an original radio play that was adapted into one of the best known episodes of The Twilight Zone. Tickets are now on sale for The Day the Earth Stood Still, and seats are limited due to COVID protocols. Face masks are not required outdoors, but will be mandatory for anyone using the indoor restroom facilities. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite.
