JOB DESCRIPTION Performing Chorus Assistant Music Director + Accompanist Organization Description The Singing Angels, founded in 1964, is a nonprofit dedicated to youth development through the highest level of artistic achievement in the performing arts. The mission is to engage youth from all communities in quality music and performing arts education that teaches teamwork, builds confidence, and provides a foundation for life. Principal Function The Performing Chorus Assistant Music Director assists the Music Director with directing and conducting rehearsals and vocal performances to inspire singers, entertain audiences, and motivate new singers and audiences to engage with The Singing Angels. The Assistant Music Director will also serve as the primary accompanist for the Performing Chorus and work with the student musicians to prepare them for performances. The Assistant Music Director may fill in as the Music Director for a rehearsal or concert when needed. Each rehearsal and performance should deepen and expand upon the skills and knowledge they may receive in a school music class. Position * This is a part-time position. * The rate of pay is $67.50 per rehearsal or concert session. * If Assistant Music Director substitutes for Music Director at a concert, pay is $112.50. * Rehearsals are on the following days: o Saturdays, 12:30 - 3:30 pm (September - November; late January - May) o Sundays, 1:30 - 4 pm (October - November; March - May) o Tuesdays and Thursdays (7 - 9 pm) (September - October; late January - March) * The number of concerts range from 30 - 40 per year. Most of the concerts take place from November to December. * Various meetings are scheduled throughout the year based on availability. Job Duties The Assistant Music Director reports to the Music Director and is required to: * Work collaboratively and through a team-oriented approach with the Performing Chorus artistic staff to insure innovative, creative and educational programs. * Participate in the selection of the Performing Chorus repertoire. * Teach and run Performing Chorus sectional and full rehearsals when needed. * Accompany the Performing Chorus at rehearsals and concerts especially the two benefit concerts (November and May). * Assist with Performing Chorus solo auditions. * Participate Performing Chorus midterm and final evaluations. * Assist with selecting student musicians. * Supervise student musicians and ensure they are ready for concerts. * Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications * Piano accompanying capabilities. * Strong organization and communication skills. * Ability to communicate effectively with youth grades 5 - 12 and adults. * This job is appropriate for energetic school choral directors who have experience with grades 5 - 12, but theatrical music directors are also encouraged to apply. Imagine Chagrin: Seeking Artists for Storefront Displays The Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is looking for artists to bring art to local storefronts this coming fall. *Imagine Chagrin* aims to reinvigorate the Chagrin and Lee commercial center, support local businesses, and showcase the abundance of artistic talent in our community. The “Imagine Chagrin” exhibit dates are September 10 through October 8. SHAC is sponsoring *artistic **displays* for *storefronts* located along Chagrin Boulevard between Lee and Avalon Roads and along Lee Road between Chagrin and Van Aken. This call is open to individual artists as well as teams to participate. Please download the *application here <https://www.shakerartscouncil.org/imagine-chagrin-application.html>*. Include 3 digital images that represent the type of work you imagine producing. All work samples and applications must be submitted electronically. Work samples and applications must be submitted to SHAC via e-mail (info(a)shakerartscouncil.org) no later than *Friday 30 July* * 2021.* Eligibility: Applicants must be 18 years or older and live in the Greater Cleveland area so that the artwork can be installed on site. Selected artists will be assigned to a participating storefront and asked to use the resident business as a theme, e.g., food, hair, cellphones, paint, clothing, martial arts, etc. Business owners will have final approval of artwork. If submitting as a team each artist should complete an individual application and indicate they are part of a team. There are no entry fees. Artists will retain all copyrights to their artwork The work will be installed September 7-9, 2021. Artists who are selected will receive a modest stipend after the work is installed. Funds are currently being raised.
