New to the Cleveland theater community, Shakespeare Exchange is seeking union and non-union talent for upcoming and ongoing events in the area. If you would like to be added to our casting files, please send: -- your headshot and resume -- a video audition link (via YouTube or Vimeo) including two monologues -- one should be Shakespeare or other classical playwright; contemporary is fine for the second, if you wish -- total time should not exceed three minutes -- submission deadline: July 25, 2021 -- send to cleveland(a)nysx.org "Shakespeare Exchange - Midwest" is a new regional offshoot of NY Shakespeare Exchange which has been in operation as an off-off-Broadway 501c3 since 2010. Our mission is to build communities and create conversations through classical work, especially Shakespeare. In addition to full productions, our work includes the wildly popular ShakesBEER Pub Crawls (a pop-up performance party bringing Shakespeare into comfortable, approachable spaces); NYSX Freestyle Labs (combining Shakespeare and contemporary issues - part performance, part panel discussion, and part group conversation); The Sonnet Project (an ongoing catalog of cinematic interpretations of Shakespeare's sonnets); The Voices Project (performance videos featuring the talent of communities that have been traditionally under-represented in classical work); and much more. Our goal is to begin producing in Cleveland in the late summer/early fall with a ShakesBEER Pub Crawl. For these events, actors must have classical acting skill, a heightened sense of improvisational freedom, and powerful vocal tools (think outdoor theater). Having gone “virtual” last year, CSF is delighted to return to our mission of bringing FREE Shakespeare in the Park to Northeast Ohio. We missed you. We hope you missed us. While life has not quite returned to what it was, we are beginning to take those tentative first steps into the sunlight. And what better way to catch those rays than with the Bard, a picnic, and good friends hanging in a park? Jones/Arnie Zane Company as they were embattled by the AIDS pandemic. Or so it is assumed. The world knows the great detective went over the falls at Reichenbach with his nemesis Professor Moriarty. But as Holmes’ body was never retrieved, a number of frauds, fakes and charlatans have come forward since to lay claim to his identity, and it falls to Dr. Watson to disprove them. Then a telegram arrives informing Watson that three men, each claiming to be Holmes, have been committed to a remote asylum off the coast of Scotland. Now Watson must discover if one of the mad men is the real Sherlock Holmes. - Three men are masquerading as Sherlock. We’re hoping to find a few men of similar build, tall and thin. - The script calls for one of the would-be Holmeses to have a shaved head. - All ethnicities will be considered. - We will try to keep people socially distanced during auditions. - R*ehearsals will begin early August*. *All rehearsals and performances will be in person.* *CHARACTERS* *Dr. Evans*: Male, 40-59 clean-shaven; silky, officious; intelligent and is divulged at the end of the play as being the true Dr. Watson; must have expertise in British Dialects. *Watson*: Male, 40-59 Similar to Evans, but with a mustache *Holmes 1*: Male, 40-59 tall, thin, angular; acerbic and aggressive; quite insistent; he is divulged at the end to be a Captain in the navy, but makes and extremely convincing Holmes; also plays: Signor Fonseca, a masked character; must have expertise in British Dialects as well as Spanish/’European’ accent for Fonseca *Holmes 2*: Male, 40-59 tall, thin, angular; anxious; vulnerable at times as he believes he has committed a murder; in the end he is divulged to be an actor who is very convincing in playing Holmes; must have expertise in British Dialects. *Holmes 3* : Male, 40-59 tall, thin, angular; cool, impenetrable; apparently suffering from hysterical deafness due to trauma.
