Originally Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions Orchestrations by DANNY TROOB Incidental Music & Vocal Arrangements by MICHAEL KOSARIN Dance Arrangements by DAVID CHASE Seeking performers ages 7 and older of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, gender expressions, and physical abilities to perform in Near West Theatre’s next Holiday musical spectacular: Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Actors must be available for evening and weekend rehearsals, and must have an enthusiasm for flexibility as we navigate an ever-changing COVID environment. This is an unpaid, volunteer opportunity that pays dividends in loving community and fun. Individuals with sign language experience are encouraged to audition. A note from the director: The rehearsal process for this show will consist of a hybrid experience including virtual rehearsals and masked in-person rehearsals. This production will include youth 7 – 11 years old who cannot be vaccinated due to their age. Considering our commitment to creating a safe community by following CDC recommendations, we are requiring that all actors over the age of 12 be vaccinated. There are no exceptions to this rule, and once cast, Near West Theatre will require proof of vaccination. REHEARSALS Beginning September 12, Sunday – Wednesday (Sundays TBD, weekdays 7 – 10pm). Children ages 7 – 12 will be released earlier in the beginning part of the process. PERFORMANCES Run: November 19 – December 5 Performances: November 19, 20, 26, 27, 28, December 2, 3, 4, 5 **Sign Language Interpreted Performance Dec 9** AUDITIONS Due to CDC recommendations and for the safety of our production team and participants, registration is required for ALL auditioners. We are also limiting audition registration capacity to 40 people per night, and these spaces will fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Auditioners who do not register in advance may be asked to come on another night. Everyone must be masked during auditions AND throughout the rehearsal process. Women In History Auditions

Women in History has just celebrated its 30th year and is looking to expand its talent base by hiring new actresses. Auditions will be scheduled throughout the months of September, October, and November…and will require those interested to prepare at least 10 minutes of a memorized, first person portrayal of a notable American woman. We realize this is a larger than normal time commitment, but it’s important to note that each of our actresses researches, writes, and creates her own program. We offer significant support both in crafting the presentations and in creating the costumes so that they are as authentic as possible. All of our performers are paid. This year we’re especially looking for women of color…with a particular focus on performers passionate about telling the stories of African American, Native American, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Hispanic women. Women in History offers live and virtual performances of over 70 different women from the past 400 years who’ve made a significant contribution to American history, some famous, some infamous, some whose names have been ignored far too long. Our portrayals represent women from a vast array of backgrounds and professions. We’ve had the privilege of sharing these stories both in and out of state…including schools, universities, libraries, historical societies, civic groups, retirement communities, corporate, science, and medical groups, prisons, military bases, and Chautauqua Festivals. John Streeter Garden Amphitheater, 2122 Williams Road, Wooster, OH 44691 Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) closes out its summer concert series at the John Streeter Garden Amphitheater with Idle Twittering: A Flock of Flutes. French Flutist Louis Fleury (1878–1926) referred to music of the 19th century as “idle twittering.” What’s the antidote? A flock of flutes from Northeastern Ohio joins forces for a tuneful and tootful performance on flutes of all shapes and sizes with George Pope, Jane Berkner, Kyra Kester, Linda White. Taking the role of "a trickster," Anansi is one of the most important characters of West African, African American, and Caribbean folklore. Actors must be available for evening and weekend rehearsals, and must have flexibility for some daytime/morning performances at local schools. This is a paid opportunity. A note from the playwright and director: All performers will work puppets in this production. Performers should have the ability to change characters with specificity, precision, and nuance. Beck Center for the Arts seeks a talented and engaging arts education instructor(s) to join our theater education faculty. In this role, the instructor will lead theater education classes while promoting and nurturing the education of students by planning and implementing effective and developmentally appropriate classroom experiences; providing a safe environment conducive to learning; keeping students informed as to the plan for the course and the activities taking place at Beck Center for the Arts. The instructor will be an entry point to first time students, while serving as an advocate for Beck Center to our students and the community. Reporting to the Associate Director of Theater Education, the arts educator will: * possess the ability to engage students of various age ranges in arts education programs while assisting students in expressing themselves through the theater arts. * be responsible, reliable, and professional. And have the ability to work independently. * have the ability to fulfill all the responsibilities and duties of a classroom teacher, keeping records/tracking attendance and ability to manage a classroom or studio environment. * possess ability to work with a diverse team, including other arts professionals and arts administrators. * Teach any or all of the following classes: Essentials- Acting (Ages 10-12) Sat. 9:00-10:00 AM (9/11/21-12/18/21) Students explore core acting skills through focused exercises and theater games. These activities reinforce listening and reaction skills and interaction between actors. Students learn the groundwork of stage performance and the language of theater study. New scenes and activities each session. Fundamentals-Acting (Ages 8-10) Sat. 10:00-11:00 AM (9/11/21-12/18/21) Students explore basic acting skills through focused exercises and theater games. These activities reinforce listening and reaction skills and interaction between actors. Students learn the groundwork of stage performance and the language of theater study. New scenes and activities each session. Teen Acting (Ages 13-19) Mon. 5:00-6:00 PM (9/13-12/13) Students explore classic and contemporary techniques in developing craft along with keys to unlocking scripts and bringing them from page to the stage. Whether a novice or more experienced actor, scene work is an essential building block in an actor's growth. This class is a must. Adult Acting: The Basics Mon. 6:00-8:00 PM (9/13-10/18 & 11/8-12/13) Classical and contemporary techniques are explored in polishing craft along with keys to unlocking scripts, and bringing them from the page to the stage. All experiences welcomed. Audition pieces conquered. Requirements include: * Possesses the proficiency (either through education and/or experience) to engage students of all abilities and teach concepts for specific courses taught. * A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in the art form is preferred. * Bachelor or Master's degree preferred. Individual's working toward their degree in theater education may be considered. * Experience Requirement: Extensive knowledge of art form and previous teaching experience (3-5 years) preferred. * Employees must pass a background check.
