AUDITION NOTICE: TEACHING ARTIST-"KIDS LOVE MUSICALS!" The Musical Theater Project (TMTP) is seeking one part-time teaching artist. Job Description: An actress with teaching skills who is capable of playing multiple characters from “The Wiz” in a classroom environment, as well as other musicals as assigned. (“The Wiz” is a retelling of the L. Frank Baum children’s novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” in the context of contemporary African-American culture.) The teaching artist will serve in the following capacity as an independent contractor: · Embrace TMTP’s core values that advance Diversity, Equity and Inclusion · Perform and teach in-person, interactive musical theater lessons in assigned area schools with students grades K – 4 · Lead classroom activities from three provided lesson plans of: o “The Wiz” o “The Wizard of Oz” o Either “Cinderella” or “Peter Pan” (TBD) Schedule: o Usually 4 days per week, consisting of two different schools each week o Up to four classes taught per day; same classes each day o Most weeks from late January – late May 2023 · Work hours are during school days, typically falling between 8am – 3pm · Each musical has a 2-day lesson plan · All contracted schools are located within northeast Ohio · Compensation: $250/school o Artist will be partially compensated for any Covid-related cancellations Paid mandatory rehearsals held in Lakewood as follows: o Jan. 30: 6pm – 10pm o Jan. 31: 6pm – 10pm o Feb. 2: 6pm – 10pm o Feb. 3: 6pm – 9pm o Feb. 4 & 5: mutually agreeable brush-up (as needed) Qualifications: o Minimum one year of arts education outreach experience with elementary school children, including serving diverse student populations preferred o Proficiency in vocal musical theater o High school degree required; college experience welcomed but not required o Outgoing, people-oriented person with outstanding interpersonal skills o Pass BCI background check (paid for by The Musical Theater Project) o Have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, clean driving record o Ability to teach masked, socially-distancing children in a classroom setting while wearing a mask (if masking is called for) at the time of residencies To Apply: o Email headshot/resume/cover letter/2 references to: Bill(a)musicaltheaterproject.org Audition slots available *November 12:* 12pm – 6pm or by appointment; *November 13: *1pm – 5pm or by appointment Prepare 16-bar ballad and 32-bar up-tempo song Provide own pre-recorded musical tracks (or sing *a capella*) Can play on artist's own phone/device, or on our provided CD player or Bluetooth speaker. -- Melissa Crum she/her/hers

But when he breaks the record for the video game that sits in his trailer park, he discovers worlds he never knew existed-literally-and they are at war. With the evil Zur and his Ko-Dan Armada threatening to overrun the forces of good, the video game's inventor, alien huckster Centauri, enlists Alex to fight for the Star League, leaving Beta, a body double droid, in his place. As the Beta does his often comically inept best to be a good "Alex" to the teen's mother, brother, the residents of the trailer park and his beloved girlfriend Maggie-all the while thwarting shape-shifting assassins-Alex soars through space as the universe's last hope. He'll need to reach deep within himself to discover his true potential and save us all. Character Breakdown The age range for each character is flexible and ALL ethnicities and body types will be considered. A simple trailer park kid who may be the last chance to save the universe. Beta is a droid double of Alex placed on Earth by Centauri while the real Alex is away. CENTAURI (Male, 35-70) alien inventor and con man. Robert Preston played him in the film. MAGGIE / ALIEN RECRUIT (Female, 18-30) Alex's love interest. Strong and confident but afraid to leave the world she has grown up in. OTIS / GRIG (Male, 35-70) Ideally African American. Otis runs the general store. A father figure/confidant to Alex. Otis occasionally narrates to the audience. Grig is two or three years older than Centauri, his brother. A respected Star League navigator. MRS. ROGAN / ALIEN RECRUIT (Female, 34-60) Alex's mother. This actor may also play an alien recruit. LOUIS / ALIEN RECRUIT (Male 12-25) smart-alecky beyond his years. Alex's brother. BLAKE / ZUR (Male, 18-35) Alex's nemesis on Earth. But also plays Zur Leader of the Ko-Dan Armada, Alex's nemesis in space. GRANN / ALIEN TREASURER / ALIEN MEDIC 1 (Female, 50-70) Maggie's grandmother. ELAINE / THE MANZAR / ALIEN MEDIC 2 (Female, 35-70) nosy neighbor type. Tentacle-footed angry alien turns out to be a spy for Zur. HARRY / ENDURAN / ZANDOZAN (Male, 35-60) alien hitman, Leader of the Star League, Zur's father. DARLENE / ZUR'S ASSISTANT / ALIEN RECRUIT (Female, 18-35) One of the Trailer Park Teens and a Ko-Dan underling. JERRY / G'NUR / BETA DOUBLE/ DROID ROBOT (Male, 18-35) One of the Trailer Park Teens. G'Nur is Zur's tutor. Being tortured by Zur. This actor also plays Beta Double in the Zandozan song. HUGH / KO-DAN GENERAL KRIL (Male, 30 to 40) a bit older than Parak and Zur. A career Ko-Dan general. JENNY / SERGEANT TAURA / MISS JULY (Female, 18-35) Blake's girlfriend and one of the trailer park teens. Sergeant Taura greets Alex at his arrival on Rylos. Miss July is a beauty queen. MARTY / KO-DAN LT. PARAK (Male, 18-35) One of the Trailer Park Teens. Lt. Parak is on the young side, but an ambitious Ko-Dan warrior. Beck Announces NOISES OFF Auditions (10/29 & 10/30)

Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood enthusiastically announces auditions for our Spring 2023 production of the greatest farce of the 20th century----Michael Frayn’s *NOISES OFF*. In-Person Auditions will be by appointment on *Saturday, Oct. 29th* (Beginning at 2:30PM) and *Sunday, Oct. 30th *(beginning at 4:30PM). You may procure your appointment times by calling the Beck Center Box Office at 216-521-2540 during normal business hours. Video submissions will also be accepted thru Sunday, Oct. 30th by 6PM. If submitting via video, please include headshot and resume’ as well as a comic monologue (Contemporary or Classical) no longer than 90 seconds. If auditioning in person, a prepared monologue is desired and welcomed. In lieu of a prepared monologue, however, there will be sides at the Open Call for you to read. *NOISES OFF* will appear in Beck Center’s main theatre…the Senney… and will open on March 24th and close on April 16th. Rehearsals will likely begin circa February 20th. The production is directed by Beck Center Artistic Director Scott Spence A cast of nine is required for this production. It is anticipated that Two (2) Equity Contracts (SPT Tier 4) will be available. All roles are compensated, and are also eligible to receive EMC (Equity Membership Candidacy) points/weeks.
