Not just a pretty “damsel in distress,” Marian is a skilled archer and sword fighter in her own right. - FRIAR TUCK: Serves as the play’s narrator, but also as part of the “Merry Men.” Good comic bits. The traditional Friar Tuck – heavyset, jolly, etc. - LITTLE JOHN: Tallest member of the Merry Men. Defeats Robin in a quarterstaff fight over a stream, then joins Robin’s band. - DEORWYNN: (pronounced “DEER-win”) A young woman whose father is murdered by the Sheriff and Sir Guy. More of a “damsel” than Marian, but not without her own cleverness. - SIR GUY OF GISBOURNE: The show’s primary “bad guy.” Pompous representative of the Crown and Prince John. - THE SHERIFF OF NOTTINGHAM: A bumbling fool of a Sheriff, he is “second banana” to Sir Guy. - PRINCE JOHN: The would-be usurper of King Richard the Lionheart’s throne. John is just as pompous as Sir Guy, and is particularly impressed with his own cleverness, especially with lousy word-play and appropriation of Shakespeare quotes. - In addition to the above principals, we are looking to cast an ensemble of at least 6 players who can double (or triple) all of these incidental roles: Heloise, Midwife, Robert, Master Bladen, Master Godwin, Alize, Roderick, Fawkes, Margery, Blind Man, Monks, Tankred, Father Goph, Bajka, Gaspar, Much the Miller, Simon, Ansgot, Jacques, Etienne, Mateo, Diego, Maximilian, Matthias, various Soldiers, Merry Men, Archers and Executioners. The Sandstone Summer Theatre Board of Directors are still accepting applications for our Summer 2023 production staff for our upcoming season including: - 🧽 Adult Theatre: The SpongeBob Musical directed by Hannah Dougall - 🍫 Children’s Theatre: Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka directed by Jennifer Ludwig - 🦁 Sunshine Theatre: Disney’s The Lion King KIDS directed by Rachael Lash PRODUCTION INFO: All productions rehearse at Marion L. Steele High School with both children’s theatre productions rehearsing camp-style during the day, starting around the second full week of June and adult theatre rehearsing in the evenings, starting at the end of May. The Elephant Man by Bernard Pomerance Directed by Craig Joseph Joshua Erichesen, Producing Artistic Director Production Stage Manager: Breanna Morton *SYNOPSIS: **The Elephant Man *is based on the real life of John Merrick, a 19th century British man who became a star of the traveling freak show circuit, before being found abandoned and helpless. When a renowned doctor takes Merrick under his care, he is astonished by Merrick's brilliant intelligence and unshakeable faith - despite his deformities. Merrick slowly evolves from an object of pity to an urbane gentleman desperate to be recognized as a man like any other. But is being accepted into society possible - or even desirable? A poetic, luminous, and moving theatrical meditation on what it means to be truly, fully human - and how quickly and easily we devolve into something more grotesque. *WHERE: *Players Guild Theatre - Kent State University at Stark Fine Arts Building (6000 Frank Ave NW, Canton, OH 44720) Floor One *PERFORMANCE DATES: *January 27 - February 12 (Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30, Sundays at 2) *AUDITIONS: *Initial auditions will be held on Monday, November 7th from 6-10 PM.
