With a cast of only two people, John & Jen is a tour-de-force for two actors, taking them from childhood, through adolescence, and beyond. A chamber musical, beautifully scored for piano, cello and percussion, John & Jen is a musical about connections, commitments and the healing of the human heart. It's Not Too Late to Sign up! CLEVELAND PLAY HOUSE OPEN CASTING FOR REMOUNT OF ORIGINAL HOLIDAY MUSICAL LIGHT IT UP! Cleveland Play House (CPH) is casting for our 2022 remount of the holiday production, Light It Up!, by Jason Michael Webb and Lelund Durond Thompson, which received its world premiere here in 2021. The production will be directed and choreographed by Christopher Windom; our Associate Director / Choreographer is Natalie Lomonte; our Music Director is Keith Williams; our out-of-town Casting Director is Judith Bowman. Both AEA and non-AEA actors – as well as local and out-of-town actors - will be considered for this production, which will be on a LORT/AEA Contract (Category B). PRODUCTION DATES Rehearsals begin Tuesday, November 8th, and will be held in-person at CPH’s rehearsal spaces, located on the fifth floor of the Middough building. Performances are 7-8 shows a week from Saturday, December 3rd - Thursday, December 22nd. Performances will take place in-person at the Allen Theatre, located in the Playhouse Square complex. Gum-Dip Theatre Presents Three Countries, One Mother, a Solo Performance Inspired by the Bhutanese-Nepali-American Community AKRON, OHIO, June 24, 2022 — Gum-Dip Theatre premieres Three Countries, One Mother, a solo performance featuring Lead Artist NimBrother (Neema Bal). The play opens on July 22 and runs through August 14, 2022 on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. at the Balch Street Theater (220 S. Balch St). Using storytelling, poetry, movement, and song, Three Countries, One Mother examines the history and culture of the Bhutanese-Nepali-American people who were displaced from their homeland as part of the Bhutanese Refugee Crisis in the 1990s and early 2000s. This play is inspired by the true story of NimBrother’s family– members of the Tamang tribe, an ethnic group in the Bhutanese-Nepali community. The Tamang tribe speaks their own Tibeto-Burman language and has a diverse spectrum of influences on spirituality--including Buddhism and indigenous shamanism. Spanning generations and countries, this deeply personal narrative weaves together family stories and shamanic ritual to explore the impact of cultural legacy on an individual. The audience is invited to journey with Neema through his cultural inheritance as part of a quest to better understand himself. NimBrother is a physical theatre artist who presents the stories of his community in a way that not only reflects and heals the traumas from the past, but also creates a space for reimagining a positive future. This three day event will showcase independent horror films from around the world (feature films, shorts, and everything in between), playing on two screens throughout the event weekend. We are also accepting horror genre screenplays of all lengths for our screenplay competition–top screenplay submissions will be showcased as a directed table read during the festival. In addition, we’re lining up some great workshops and fun events, covering topics like screenwriting, special effects, distribution/sales agents, and movie trivia. Come out for the whole weekend, or pick and choose which events you’d like to attend–just be prepared for plenty of great horror, and a fun time for all! Films and screenplays will be judged by a panel of industry professionals for a variety of awards.
