BorderLight Fringe Festival: August 3 – 5, 2023 Call for Artists<https://www.borderlightcle.org/apply/> closes Feb. 28 Put on a show, teach a masterclass, or activate an unusual space! The BorderLight Festival returns in 2023 with our first all-Fringe festival, but be sure to apply before February 28th. The festival will take place Aug. 3 - Aug. 5, drawing thousands to downtown Cleveland’s Playhouse Square neighborhood. The festival will feature half local artists, half artists from all over the U.S. BorderLight will provide a venue, box office, marketing support, and fun, free events for artists. 70% of box office revenue is returned to artists, who can see other shows in the festival for free on standby. We welcome your proposals to produce plays, puppetry, circus, comedy, immersive experiences, performance art, spoken word, cabaret, burlesque, dance theatre, etc. Please also consider the Fringe if you are a choreographer, installation artist, site-specific visionary, movement practitioner, virtual reality creator, musician, or any creative who wants to explore performance and storytelling! THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES By Erin E. Dolan Directed by Rachael Endrizzi Lorain County Community College theatre program and Spark Theatre Company announce non-equity auditions for “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” a new take on the timeless tale. When two strangers arrive in the city of Logos, they call attention to themselves by claiming to be able to make the most magnificent and magical clothing. Emperor Caecus cannot resist such a claim, especially when he finds out that the magic in the cloth means that those who are unfit for their position cannot see the garments made from the fabric. The ensuing silliness can only be sorted out by the most intelligent and sensible person in the empire, a child name Captiosus. This adaptation is written by Cleveland playwright, Erin E. Dolan! Copies of the script will be on reserve at the LCCC Bass Library until the audition dates. Digital copies for perusal may also be obtained by emailing sparktheatre4youth(a)gmail.com. WHO: Auditions are open to all LCCC students and staff, as well as actors from the community. We are seeking actors of all types for performances at LCCC Stocker Arts Center’s Cirigliano Theatre, as well as actors to travel with the show on tour to schools in May. Actors do NOT need to be available for the tour to audition. It is likely we will have a larger cast for the April public performances, and a select group of actors to double roles for the May tour. Actors may be considered for both options but have the option to audition for just one or the other. WHAT: Auditions will be held in 5-minute time slots. You will be asked to read from available sides at the audition. If available, please bring one copy of your headshot and resume to the audition. AUDITION DATES Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 7 pm – 9 pm and Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from 7 pm – 9 pm Callbacks will be held Thursday, February 23rd from 7pm-9pm, as needed. Twin Masks Performing Arts Center (TMPAC) is proud to announce its final weekend of performances of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, written by Edward Albee, and directed by D. Keith Stiver. TMPAC is located at 9076 Church Street, Suites 2 and 3 in Twinsburg, Ohio. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings, starting at 8pm. Feb 17 and 18. Cast: George: Vincent Sarowatz Martha: Theresa Dean Nick: Corey Thur Honey: Jessie Pollak STORY: George, a professor at a small college, and his wife, Martha, have just returned home, drunk from a Saturday night party. Martha announces, amidst general profanity, that she has invited a young couple—an opportunistic new professor at the college and his shatteringly naïve new bride—to stop by for a nightcap. When they arrive the charade begins. The drinks flow and suddenly inhibitions melt. It becomes clear that Martha is determined to seduce the young professor, and George couldn’t care less. But underneath the edgy banter, which is crossfired between both couples, lurks an undercurrent of tragedy and despair. George and Martha’s inhuman bitterness toward one another is provoked by the enormous personal sadness that they have pledged to keep to themselves: a secret that has seemingly been the foundation for their relationship. In the end, the mystery in which the distressed George and Martha have taken refuge is exposed, once and for all revealing the degrading mess they have made of their lives.
