Dancing Classrooms Northeast Ohio Accepting credentials for 2022 - 2023 Teaching Artists The Dancing Classrooms program is a ten-week, twenty-session social development program that uses ballroom dancing as its "tool" for getting children to break down social barriers, learn about respect, treat others carefully, improve self-confidence, communicate, cooperate, and accept others even if they are different. Dancing Classrooms is not about teaching ballroom dancing. Our mission is to build social awareness, confidence, and self-esteem in children through the practice of social dance. We are currently seeking Teaching Artists who have: * The belief that every child can learn and excel, regardless of shape, size, family situation, or ethnic background * A passion for dance and creative expression that is easily communicated to, and contagious among, children * Self-confidence in his/her dance and artistic abilities * High expectations for what every child can achieve through the program * An ability to express themself verbally in such a way that deserves attention * An understanding of children's classroom dynamics and how to manage behavior * Flexibility and a good sense of humor Dancing Classrooms Teaching Artists are: actors, dancers, and individuals who can move with rhythm; have excellent interpersonal skills; enjoy working with children; are able to work in person in school classrooms; have a generous spirit; a sense of humor, and willingness to travel throughout Northeast Ohio. You will be fingerprinted with the state of Ohio upon employment. Teaching Artists are paid on an hourly basis as seasonal, part-time employees. Employment is during the school year, on school days, between the hours of 7:30 am - 4:00pm. Teaching Artists are seasonal part-time employees that are paid on an hourly basis ($30/hour). Requirements: Make a solid commitment to a sequential ten-week residency two days per week in person at a school(s) during the hours of 7:30am and 4:00pm. Applicants must be available to attend training. Training dates will be July 25 - 29, 2022 (Monday - Friday) from 8:00am - 3:00pm and August 12, 2022 (Time TBD based on candidates availability). Training commitment is non-negotiable, please do not apply if you're unable to commit to attending training. * Following a successful "test out" on Friday, July 29th, 2021, you will receive $500 on the next pay cycle. * Upon the completion of your first 20-session residency, you will receive a final $500 on the next occurring pay cycle. The Dark Room is an ongoing event held on the second Tuesday of each month. The Dark Room affords emerging and veteran playwrights the space and resources to develop new works. All auditioners are asked to come prepared with one minute of a song of their choosing. Auditoners will also be asked to cold read from the script. (Music auditions are to be a capella or with accompaniment tracks if you have them accessible). Auditioners are asked to wear comfortable clothes as we will learn a short dance movement. Performances: July 15th-30th (Fridays and Saturdays at 8:15pm and Sundays at 2:15pm) ROLES AVAILABLE: Rafiki - A wise mandrill who acts as healer of the Pridelands and guides Simba on his journey home. She is an omniscient character, evincing an air of mystery. Mufasa - The strong, honorable, and wise lion who leads the Pridelands. Sarabi - A featured lioness, Mufasa's mate, and Simba's mother. Zazu - The anxious yet loyal assistant to Mufasa who is always busy trying to do his duty. Scar - The antagonist of the show, overcome with jealousy of his brother, Mufasa, and nephew, Simba. Coldhearted and wickedly intelligent, he will stop at nothing to become king of the Pridelands. Young Simba - The protagonist of the story, is an adventurous and endearing cub who can't wait to be king of the Pridelands. Simba is playful, energetic, and naive, but after his father Mufasa's death, Simba struggles with shame and his destiny. Simba - Grows from a cub to lion in "Hakuna Matata." Older Simba has more complex moments as he reunites with Nala, mourns his father, and returns to confront Scar Young Nala - A courageous lion and Young Simba's best friend. She is not afraid to speak her mind. Nala - Grows from a cub to a lioness before she confronts Scar Sarafina - A featured lioness and Nala's mother. Shenzi - One of Scar's hyenas who plot to take over the Pridelands. She is the sassy one of the trio and is always looking out for herself. Banzai - A slick yet childish hyena who works for Scar. He would be the leader of the group if hyenas weren't so lazy. Ed - The third member of Scar's trio of lackeys. He has a loud, cackling laugh that is his only form of communication. Timon - An outcast meerkat who lives in the jungle with Pumbaa. He is afraid of his own shadow, but pretends to be the confident, relaxed leader of the duo. Beck Center for the Arts Announces Funniest Farce, Noises Off Lakewood, OH-Beck Center for the Arts<http://www.beckcenter.org/> is pleased to announce Noises Off, one of the absolute funniest "play within a play" plays ever written and performed in the modern era. Written by Michael Frayn<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Frayn>, this piece was conceived when the British playwright was watching a performance from the wings. He said, "It was funnier from behind than in front, and I thought that one day I must write a farce from behind." This play was meta before meta was meta. Beck Center for the Arts' Artistic Director, and director of this production, Scott Spence says of directing this production, "I could not be more excited to set sail on my fourth production of Noises Off in the past 30 years. Often called the funniest comedy in western theatre in the past 200 years, I know firsthand the joy of working with performers who thrive on the tightrope, high above the crowd. The communion shared between actors and audience in Noises Off is something truly to behold as we all feast together on the crumbling remains of a touring production that disintegrates before our eyes. One could predict that there won't be a dry seat in the house as the curtain gratefully descends." Running in the Senney Theater in Lakewood from March 24 to April 16, 2023, with additional Thursday evening performances March 30, April 6 and 13, at 7:30 pm, ticket prices range from $38 (adults), $34 (for seniors 65 and older) and $17 for students with valid ID, and $12 for children between five and 12 years of age. William Shakespeare's Land of the Dead was written by John Heimbuch, with direction by Dusten Welch. Running March 3 to March 12 in the Studio Theater, this killer thriller comedy will delight audiences of all ages. A "true and accurate account of the 1599 Zombie Plague" that took place backstage at the Globe, Shakespeare and the Lord Chamberlain's men must sacrifice their artistic pride, and scientific philosophy as a relentless horde of zombies overtake the stage. As the affliction spreads through London, the Globe is placed in quarantine and the survivors within must fight for their lives. Can they escape? Is there a cure? Is artistic integrity ever worth dying for? William Shakespeare's Land of the Dead combines history and horror complete with wayward clowns, quarreling advisers, and wonderful nods to Shakespearean tragedies.
