Featuring a Tony-winning score by pop icon Cyndi Lauper and a hilarious, uplifting script by four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein, the production runs from July 21 to August 12, 2023. Performances will take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM, with matinees on Sundays, July 30th and August 6th at 2 PM. The production is presented with generous support from Winds of Change and Gypsy Sole (shopwoc.com) Based on the 2005 film of the same name (which was in turn inspired by true events), this highly anticipated production promises to captivate audiences with its infectious energy, powerful performances, and heartwarming story. "Kinky Boots" follows the journey of Charlie Price, played by Josh Budd, who inherits his father's struggling shoe factory. Desperate to save the business from bankruptcy, Charlie forms an unlikely partnership with the fabulous drag queen Lola, portrayed by Anthony Woods-Mitchell. Together, they discover that they have more in common than they thought, and that changing your mind about someone can change your whole world. Directed by Greta Rothman, with musical direction by Andrew Novak and choreography by Jen Justice, "Kinky Boots" is exhilarating, inspiring, and downright fun! Near West Theatre is excited to announce the search for candidates for the position of Teaching Artist. Teaching Artists represent Near West Theatre and build strong relationships with partnering schools and their students by creating a safe learning environment for children during in-school and afterschool programming, both on- and off-site. This position will teach theater classes to students in grades K-12. Teaching artists will report to and work collaboratively with the Program Manager to create and implement a curriculum specific to the individual schools where they are teaching. They will coordinate with school staff, where appropriate, to deliver outcome-based programming aligned with academic and curricular goals. They will also be responsible for timely communication with the Program Manager and other applicable teaching artists. Itis the story about a half boy/half bat creature who is discovered in a cavenear Hope Falls, West Virginia. For lack of a better solution, the localsheriff brings Bat Boy to the home of the town veterinarian, Dr. Parker, wherehe is eventually accepted as a member of the family and taught to act like a“normal” boy by the veterinarian’s wife, Meredith, and teenage daughter,Shelley. Their six adult offspring have come home to mark the occasion. Why is Dad a nervous wreck; Mom a sad sack; and the kids reverting to their childish ways? Follow the Roman Family on their song and dance journey to discover what really ties them together. The world premiere of the concert version of the musical will be September 8 at the historic “Hermit Club” in the heart of Playhouse Square Downtown. The Hermit Club has not had a musical theater performance on its stage since the 1990s, so this musical is the groundbreaking for a new era of entertainment in this celebrated venue. A recording will also be made of the performance for submission to investors. You have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of this exciting project! Rehearsals at the auditorium of Padre Pio Academy in Lakewood will begin July 10.
