CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY/CLEVELAND PLAY HOUSE MFA ACTING PROGRAM CASTING LOCAL ACTORS FOR THE TEMPEST Cleveland Play House (CPH) is casting local actors for the CWRU/CPH MFA Acting Program’s 2023 production of The Tempest, directed by Eleanor Holdridge. Both positions are non-union contracts, each with a stipend of $350.00 and a $50.00 travel/parking stipend. Auditions are by video submission only. Rehearsals begin Monday, August 21, and will be held in-person during the day and on weekends, though we will do our best to schedule required rehearsals for these roles around actor work schedules. Rehearsals will take place in CPH’s rehearsal spaces, located on the fifth floors of the Middough building, at 1901 East 13th Street in downtown Cleveland. Performances are 5 shows a week from Wednesday, September 20 – Saturday September 30 Performances will take place in-person at the Helen Theatre, located in the Playhouse Square complex. Characters: ALONSO – (22-30, any gender, any race/ethnicity) FRANCISCO/ADRIAN– (22-30, any gender, any race/ethnicity). This is a combination of the characters Francisco and Adrian into one role, rather than two different characters. Cleveland filmmakers Angeline Walsh and Giorgiana Lascu, whose indie show "The Coroner's Assistant" was filmed in Northeast Ohio, will be speaking about the show at the Westlake Porter Public Library on August 9 from 7-8 pm. "The Coroner's Assistant" has been nominated for Best Writing in a Streaming Comedy Series and Best Period Costumes at the Hollywood Critics Association 2023 TV Awards, alongside shows like Netflix's "Wednesday" and Hulu's "The Bear." Thanks to contributions and volunteer efforts from our Members, Geauga Center for the Arts was able to put on two successful productions this year: a dramatic reading of A Christmas Carol at the Heritage House in Chardon Square, and Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Big Creek Park! We also had local artists participate in several craft shows on our behalf. And, we hope to soon be offering arts and theater-related classes in the Chardon area! Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday's "normal" boyfriend and his parents. Wednesday Addams Big sister Wednesday who has her father's heart and her mother's sensibility and dry wit falls in love with a "normal" boy who she brings home to meet the family. Wednesday is trying to balance her relationships with her "strange" family with that of her new love and his "normal" family. Wednesday showcases compassion, a bit of stubbornness and strong will. Age 16 - 20. Strong actor, Pop Soprano/Mezzo, strong belt. Pugsley Addams The youngest of the Addams Family, Pugsley loves to be tortured by his big sister. He is lost trying to figure out his place now that she has a new boyfriend and family dynamics are changing. He wants to ensure he won't lose his sister to her new boyfriend so he takes matters in to his own hands. Age 9 - 12. Sweet, strong actor, Alto with strong, high vocals. Uncle Fester Serving as the narrator of the show, Uncle Fester is larger than life, lovable, childish, enthusiastic and highly incorrigible. Age 30 - 50, Vaudeville-style Comedian, tenor/baritone, cand dance/move well. Grandma fun, quirky and feisty, Grandma always has a trick up her sleeve. Grandma is wise, wacky and sometimes a bit crass. Don't mess with Grandma! Can play 80 - 105. Comedic Actor, Alto/Mezzo/Character vocals. Lurch A man of few words, Lurch is the Addams Family butler. His unmistakable commanding presence is accented by grunts, moans and deliberate movement. Age: Imperceptible. TALL. Rich, Bass sound. Mal Beinecke The uptight and stuffy father of Lucas and exasperated husband to rhyming Alice, cynical Mal meets the Addams with skepticism. He finds the Addams to be too bizarre for his liking and cannot fathom being related to them. Age 30 - 55. High baritone/tenor. Alice Beinecke Lucas's mother and Mal's wife, Alice is strongly devoted to her family. She presents herself as reserved and collected (even when speaking in rhyme) until she learns to unleash her wild side at dinner with the Addams. 30 - 55. Comedic actor, Soprano, belt. Lucas Beinecke The hopeful romantic and son of Alice & Mal, Lucas has fallen in love with Wednesday and intends to marry her. He is optimistic and hopeful yet struggles to find the balance between his "normal" family and the macabre Addams. 16 - 20. Attractive nerdy, tenor, moves well. The Ancestors the Addams ancestors from various eras serve as the chorus for the show and help bring the story to life. They will be featured both singing and dancing throughout the entire show (once released from the family crypt!). All vocal ranges, genders, ages, and types.
