CPT is seeking *part-time Substitute Teaching Artists* to assist in implementing CPT Education programming. Theatre experience is a plus. We are looking to build a strong core of artists who are dedicated to creating work to further racial and economic justice. This role pays $22/hr. ------------------------------ CMHA CLEVELAND ACT NOW CMHA Cleveland Act Now (CAN) takes place in partnership with the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) at community centers for children and families who live in public housing. Under the guidance of CPT Teaching Artists, young artists learn how to create and perform their own plays, dance, poetry, music, and visual art. These multidisciplinary performing arts activities improve academic skills, instill empathy and responsibility, build character, and enhance creative thinking. The students regularly perform at CMHA community centers as well as arts festivals throughout Cleveland. CMHA CAN is offered in four CMHA communities: Lakeview Terrace, Woodhill Homes, Outhwaite Homes, and Riverside Park. CLEVELAND ACT NOW ACADEMY (CAN ACADEMY) Cleveland Act Now (CAN) Academy is a free performing arts program for younger teens and youth from Cleveland and surrounding neighborhoods, held on-site at Cleveland Public Theatre. The Juniors program serves youth ages 7-10, and the Seniors program serves youth ages 11-14. Young artists engage in rigorous (and fun!) theatre training, learning acting fundamentals, script analysis, storytelling techniques, and play creation. Y-HAVEN THEATRE PROJECT Y-Haven Theatre Project is a program for residents of Y-Haven, a YMCA center providing temporary housing and Substance Use Disorder treatment to individuals who are homeless, re-entering the community from incarceration, and/or recovering from Opioid Use Disorder. The program teaches performing arts and technical aspects of theatre while addressing critical personal, interpersonal, and job-related skills through a comprehensive process. The program culminates in the performance and community-wide tour of an original play based on stories from the clients’ lives. ------------------------------ SKILLS REQUIRED - Experience in at least one theatre-related arts discipline (dance, drumming, singing, acting, creative writing, etc.) - Experience teaching children and/or teenagers - Ability to travel to multiple sites (CMHA CAN) - Experience with/open to working with individuals in recovery from substance use disorder and/or homelessness - Demonstrated ability to be or become a strong role model for Cleveland youth - Energy, responsiveness, flexibility, creativity - Attention to detail, ability to work independently - Openness to learning new techniques in the creation of original performance material SUBSTITUTE TEACHING ARTIST, CAN ACADEMY— JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - Successfully supporting CPT full-time EDU leadership staff in implementing CPT Education programming, actively engaging with youth and/or adults as they build storytelling skills (incorporating body, voice, and ensemble) and community - CAN Academy Juniors (M/W) and Seniors (T/TH) team hours are typically from 3:30-6:30 pm at Cleveland Public Theatre - CMHA CAN Outhwaite (M/W) team hours are typically from 3:30 pm-5:30 pm at Outhwaite Homes Community Center - CMHA CAN Riverside (M/W) team hours are typically from 4:00-6:00 pm at Riverside Park Community Center. - CMHA CAN Lakeview (T/TH) team hours are typically from 3:30-5:30 pm at Lakeview Terrace Community Center. - Y-Haven Theatre Project (M/W/F or M-TH) team hours are typically from 1-4 pm, 4-7pm, or 7-10p at Cleveland Public Theatre. - Collaborating with partner organizations and/or CPT Staff from applicable departments to successfully present artistic work at assigned sites - Attending trainings and/or meetings with EDU teams to share outline highlights, session progress, questions, and opportunities regarding program implementation (avg. 1-2 hours weekly) - Completing other duties that relate to the CPT EDU programs as determined by full-time, ongoing CPT EDU staff (recruitment, communication, record keeping) ------------------------------ The search to fill these positions is ongoing. Please send a resume and letter of interest to Brooke Okpala, Education Associate, at bmyers(a)cptonline.org. ------------------------------ ABOUT CLEVELAND PUBLIC THEATRE *CPT is a nationally recognized center for contemporary performance. Market St.), we will be presenting a reading of GOOD, a new musical telling the story of Sarah Good, one of the first women accused in the Salem Witch Trials. An incisive book by Paul Dahman, John Morris, & Shiloh Hart is accompanied by heavy music by Hart & Marquis Brown directed by local theatre luminary Rosie Bresson and some of the Kent Trumbull Theatre’s top-notch talent. NOTE: This is a zero-budget, non-paid student film, but make no mistake - this is a production I take very seriously. My name is Ron Sonedecker, I am a 51 year old USAF Veteran and a Film student at Kent State University. I am directing a student short that I wrote - "Stolen Valor". Taglines: "Behind every story lies a deeper wound." "Behind every story lies a deeper wound. And some lies hide a painful truth." Loglines: "A stranger joins a War Veteran’s support group, hiding a personal grief behind a false identity, but when the truth is uncovered, their shared pain binds them all in unexpected ways." "A newcomer to a veteran’s support group hides behind a fabricated story, but when his real motive is uncovered, the group must confront a deeper, shared loss." This is a short story about the father of a soldier who was recently KIA, and he seeks connection at a War Veteran's meeting - but he does so by pretending to be a veteran himself, which does not go over well. But once he reveals the truth, he is fully accepted into the group. We'll be shooting some time in the second half of October in Kent and Stow. Auditions may be done only virtually, but also feel free to send any demo reels. L. Coburn’s award-winning *The Gin Game* on October 18, 19, and 20, 2024. The drama, directed by Michael J. Rogan and starring Stephen Morse and Kate Williams-Bernardo, will be the first public performance at CVLT's smaller venue since the pandemic shutdown. Performances of this one-weekend production are 7:30 pm Friday and Saturday and 2:00 pm Sunday at 56 River Street in Chagrin Falls. Tickets are $15. This winner of the 1978 Pulitzer Prize for Drama debuted with Jessica Tandy (winning her a Tony) with husband Hume Cronyn. It was revived on stage with Julie Harris and Charles Durning as well as James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson, and for television with Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke. Morse and Williams-Bernardo performed it together at the Willoughby Summer Theater at Andrews Osborne Academy in 2024 and are pleased to reprise it for this special event in Chagrin. *The Gin Game* uses gin rummy as a metaphor for life's struggles. Weller Martin (Morse), a nursing home resident, is playing solitaire on a shabby nursing home porch when he's joined by the prim Fonsia Dorsey (Williams-Bernardo). United by their dislike of the home and love for cards, they begin playing gin. As Fonsia wins every game and personal details are revealed, their shared confidences become weapons in an escalating conflict. Weller, desperate to overcome a lifetime of defeats, seeks a victory that remains elusive. Will he leave a broken man? Will her rigidity lead to bitter and lonely twilight years? Through their interactions, the work explores themes of aging, competition, and the search for connection. CVLT’s River Street Playhouse, housed in a former industrial space across the parking lot from the main CVLT building, was founded in 1978 through the vision of Don Edelman and the building's owner, Steve Shields. Throughout the early 2000s it focused on smaller, newer, or more unusual material, as well as serving as CVLT's primary storage space for costumes, props, and scenery. CVLT took ownership of the building when Mr. Shields passed away in 2011 and has been working to revive the aging building at the end of River Street. *The Gin Game* marks the first time audiences will be invited into the 65-seat proscenium space post-COVID, following improvements including updated lighting and sound. The proceeds from this volunteer performance will help to continue much needed repair and maintenance work. *The Gin Game* contains some strong language and expressions of anger that may not be suitable for younger or more sensitive audiences. Seat of the Pants is excited to kick off our '24-'25 season, OMEGA & ALPHA, with the Ohio premiere of Heidi Schreck's GRAND CONCOURSE, running October 11-27 at Christ Episcopal Church in Shaker Heights. Having dedicated her life to religious service as a nun, Shelley runs a Bronx soup kitchen with unsentimental efficiency, but lately her heart’s not quite in it. Her brisk nature masks an unsettling fear that her efforts are meaningless. When Emma – an idealistic but confused college dropout – arrives to volunteer, her reckless mix of generosity and self-involvement pushes Shelley to the breaking point. With keen humor and startling compassion, Heidi Schreck’s play navigates the mystery of faith, the limits of forgiveness, and the pursuit of something resembling joy. Directed by Craig Joseph, assistant directed by Natalie Sander Kern, and produced by Michael Glavan, the production stars Rachel Gold, Zyrece Montgomery, Jonathan Rodriguez, and George Roth. Reading of Faye Sholiton's New Play - THIS COMING SATURDAY!

This season, Sat of the Pants is hosting a Saturday Salon Series - quarterly gatherings to hear brand new plays read aloud for the first time by local actors, followed by an opportunity for audience members to respond to some curated questions that will help the playwright in their next rounds of edits and revisions. Our company's focus is on PROCESS, and this is just one way that we're trying to highlight what goes on behind the scenes as a play is made. Our first offering this season is IF THE SHOW FITS, a comedy that lampoons the world of theatre, written by Cleveland playwright, Faye Sholiton, directed and produced by Anne McEvoy and Kadijah Wingo, and read by Chris D'Amico, Tim Keo, Laura Starnik, and Lana Sugarman.
