*The Department of Dance Presents Fall 2024 Faculty & Guest Artist Concert Voyages* Article Date: September 23, 2024 Case Western Reserve University’s Department of Dance announces the 2024 production of Voyages. An evening of exciting new and revisited works, Voyages features Gary Galbraith’s new technology-infused *Quest*, Richard Oaxaca’s *Rooted*, as well as the return of *Into the Wind* by department chair Karen Potter and last year’s audience favorite *Cave of the Heart* by Martha Graham. *Voyages* will be performed on November 1, 2, 6-8 at 7 pm and November 3rd at 2:30 pm at Mather Dance Center, 11040 Bellflower Road, on the Case Western Reserve campus in University Circle. *Into the Wind* Karen Potter’s *Into the Wind *brings a unique blend of contemporary dance and aerial acrobatics to the stage. Set to the atmospheric music of Elena-Kats Chernin, this duet transports the audience into a world where the boundaries between earth and sky blur. Dancers Richard Oaxaca and Helium Valentine navigate a landscape of sweeping aerial silks, using fluid motions to echo the natural grace of wind. As they ascend into the silks, the audience is captivated by breathtaking, gravity-defying choreography, creating a visually stunning and emotionally charged experience. *Rooted* *Rooted*, a new work by Richard Oaxaca, draws inspiration from the Tree of Life, a powerful symbol across cultures and religions. Directed by Darnell Weaver, with choreography by Kailyn Mack and music direction by Benjamin Hall, “Polkadots” tells the story of 8-year-old Lily Polkadot who just moved to the “Squares Only” small town of Rockaway. As the first Polkadot in an all Square school, Lily faces an almost impossible task of gaining acceptance from her peers. From daily bullying by mean girl Penelope to segregated drinking fountains, Lily’s quest seems hopeless until she meets Sky, a shy Square boy whose curiosity for her unique polkadot skin blooms into an unexpected pal-ship. Inspired by the events of the Little Rock 9, Polkadots: the Cool Kids Musical serves as a colorful history lesson for children, reminding them that our individual differences make us awesome, not outcasts. Beck Center For The Arts in Lakewood, OH is pleased to announce AUDITIONS for its encore production of *JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT*. *Open Call auditions will be held by appointment only on the following dates and times:* *Sunday, September 29th with slots between 5PM and 8PM available* (Beck Main Bldg) *Monday, September 30th with slots between 6PM and 9PM available* (Beck's Music and Creative Arts Bldg) Audition appointments can be made by calling the Beck Center Box Office during regular business hours (after 12PM) at 216-521-2540 *Please prepare* one musical theatre selection no longer than 90 seconds. Young performers interested in the Youth Chorus may sing a shorter selection and sing a capella if desired. Adults should provide sheet music in their key. An accompanist will be provided. *Production Dates* for this year's encore are Dec. 6th thru Jan. 5th. For the most part, the show performs Thursday thru Sunday. There are NO performances Dec. 23rd thru Dec. 27th, allowing for out-of-town travel if desired. *Rehearsals *will begin circa November 2nd. *Call Backs* will occur the weekend of October 5/6. Some cast members return from last year's nearly sold out production, including Tony Award Nominee Mary Bridget Davies as the Narrator and NYC Equity performer Jimmy Helms as Pharaoh. The role of Joseph has also been cast, and Jacob returns from last year as well. Olde Towne Hall Theater’s Night of One Act Plays Performances on November 15, 16, and 17 at French Creek Theater Of the four plays, I will be directing two of them: Bad Auditions By Bad Actors - Ian McWethy The Radio Play Disaster - Don Zolidis Bad Auditions will be positioned just before intermission and runs 19 pages Radio Play will close the show (because nothing will be able to follow it) and runs 31 pages. Both plays are seriously funny…with Radio Play being the best example of pure, controlled chaos that snowballs out of control exponentially. It will be so much fun to perform, as well as for the audience to see. Auditions will be held Saturday, September 28th at 1PM and Sunday, September 29th at 3PM. Auditions and rehearsals will be at Fields United Methodist Church in North Ridgeville. There is no need to prepare anything in advance. Auditions will be cold reads of selections from the plays. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, BUT CANT MAKE EITHER AUDITION DATE, PLEASE REACH OUT TO ME DIRECTLY. Both shows will utilize the same core group, so most of you will have 2 distinct roles. While Bad Actors is more of a series of solo pieces, Radio Play is a true ensemble, having everyone on the stage at the same time. BOTH shows, and especially combined, are a real showcase for actors and the opportunity to not only craft two characters, but to really show some amazing range within the comedy space.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS: Justin – (Male, 20s-30s) A socially awkward young man who also happens to be low handicap golfer. In real life, his nervousness and uncertainties often overtake his actions. Louise – (Female, 20s-30s) A perfect match for Justin in that she, too, possesses some naive, awkward social graces. She is sexy and sweet and very proud of her accomplishments, but is also given to extreme reactions to set backs. She cries a lot. Bingham – (Male, 30s-50s) The owner of the Quail Valley Country Club. He has been frustrated by years of a mismatched marriage and is intimidated by his wife while mooning over his former love interest, Pamela. Pamela – (Female, 30s-50s) The somewhat cynical divorcee who has left Dickie (Director of the Crouching Squirrel) behind. She is the helper, the fixer upper of things gone bad, the object of Bingham’s devotion. Dickie – (Male, 30s-50s) The insufferable bore who is the Director of the Crouching Squirrel. He dresses loudly and tastelessly meaning that his appearance matches his personality. Muriel – (Female, 30s-50s) The overbearing wife of Bingham. When she is in the room she sucks all of the oxygen out of the space. *All roles in this production are on a volunteer basic, there is currently no compensation available for the actors involved in this production* Any age, race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, body type, abilities, or other identities are encouraged to audition and will be considered equally in character casting, unless directly specified by the playwright as integral to their story.
