Ease into your weekend with live instrumental music from Serrated Slump, enjoy some coffee, and a mindfulness meditation training with Lune. Stop by the Goodyear Branch Library (60 Goodyear Blvd in Akron) to browse the stacks, sip free coffee, and listen to music by Serrated Slump. Serrated Slump is a Middlebury Neighborhood-based duo of artists who farm in the city. They are inspired by the soundscapes around them, including Route 8, wild birds, cicadas and helicopters. Pete Bach mixes analog and digital music tech, while Avery Duff runs the singing saw and vocals through effects pedals. At 11:30 am, join Lune for Mindful Mornings. “Mindful Mornings” is an introductory class to mindfulness and the practice of loving-kindness meditation. Each class will feature guided grounding exercises, relaxation techniques, mindful movement and meditations to help expand our awareness, compassion for ourselves, our community and our world. All are welcome at this class! Each morning will be a little different so if you miss one or two don't feel like you can't return. Just come to the next one that fits in your schedule! Attendees should bring a yoga mat/blanket/something comfortable to sit on (pillow). Chairs will be available to those who need them. Come build your swashbuckling skills with us and walk away with a certification from the Society of American Fight Directors! SAFD Certified Teacher and Intimacy Designer Bill Gordon is offering a 35 hour Single Sword Certification Class through the Society of American Fight Directors. Upon completion of 30 hours of training, you are eligible to test with the Society of American Fight Directors for proficiency in that weapon. This is a great way to highlight your training on your resumé and to meet other members of the performance community at large as it means testing in front of a Fight Master within the organization. This is also an amazing skill for folks both on and off the stage because the more people that are informed, the less chance there is of accidents and injuries. Actors will have the opportunity to play several different characters. Several dialects are used including those from Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia and London, England. It's 1979, and New York's hottest A-listers are lining up for the opening of a floating casino and discotheque. Also attending is a faded disco star, a sexy nightclub singer with her eleven-year-old twins, a disaster expert, a feminist reporter, an older couple with a secret, a pair of young guys who are looking for ladies, an untrustworthy businessman and a nun with a gambling addiction. What begins as a night of boogie fever quickly changes to panic as the ship succumbs to multiple disasters, such as earthquakes, tidal waves and infernos. As the night turns into day, everyone struggles to survive and, quite possibly, repair the love that they've lost... or at least escape the killer rats. Disaster! is a new musical straight from Broadway, featuring some of the most unforgettable songs of the '70s.
