FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 6, 2026 MTC To Present The Ohio Premiere of Dear Evan Hansen at The Youngstown Playhouse! YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Millennial Theatre Company (MTC) will present the Ohio premiere of the hit Broadway musical, Dear Evan Hansen at the Youngstown Playhouse (600 Playhouse Lane Youngstown, OH 44511) for a 2 weekend run, with performances running July 11-13, 17-19. Dear Evan Hansen tells the story of seventeen-year-old Evan Hansen, who has felt invisible his entire life. But when a tragedy shocks his community and thrusts him into the center of a rapidly evolving controversy, Evan is given the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to be somebody else. As his web of well-intentioned lies begins to unravel, though, Evan is forced to confront the fact that the price of belonging may be far steeper than he bargained for. Director Joe Asente said he is excited that MTC was able to bring this premiere production to the stage, “We have been waiting for the release of this show for ages. This is one of, if not my personal favorite musical, and we feel so honored to be among the first in the nation to produce this show after its Broadway run. This show is so powerful and the message it sends is so important for our times. We can not wait to share it with Youngstown audiences. We are also excited to announce that this production will feature a live orchestra, which we are really excited to add to this amazing production.” Asente continued that Dear Evan Hansen truly has something for everyone, “This story is incredibly powerful. It is "unapologetically silly and at times hilarious," declares the New York Times* *I HATE HAMLET – Description and Audition Information* *By Paul Rudnick;* Andrew Rally seems to have it all: fame from a hit TV series, a beautiful girlfriend, a glamorous and well-established agent, a dream Manhattan apartment in which the legendary John Barrymore lived, and the chance to play Hamlet in Central Park. But things aren't as perfect as they seem. His show’s been canceled, his girlfriend is determined to remain chaste, and he hates Shakespeare. Enter Barrymore’s ghost, who, fueled by his passion for the stage (and champagne), is dead set on coaching Andrew into theatrical greatness. What follows is a hilarious clash of ambition and art as the young actor battles his doubts, Barrymore, and a very real sword. *I Hate Hamlet* is a fast-paced, sharp-witted comedy that skewers the acting world while celebrating its passions. *Cast*: *Felicia Dantine – *Andrew’s real estate agent with a passion for unique New York City apartments, particularly enthralled with this one (could be anywhere between 30 and 45 in age; often played with a bit of a Queens accent, but not necessary). *Deirdre McDavy *– Andrew’s girlfriend, “the breathless soul of romantic enthusiasm…always on the verge of a swoon, she is an actress (29-35 but appears younger). * Lillian Troy *– Andrew’s elegant, striking, and successful agent with a “no-nonsense manner combined with a delight for any sort of high-jinks” (she is in her 70s and has the slight remains of her German accent) *Andrew Rally *– Actor arriving in the city to play Hamlet at the Delacorte theater in Central Park, an opportunity which, to him, seems to be a dubious one (he could be anywhere from late 20s to mid-30s in age) *Gary Peter Lefkowitz –* the Hollywood producer responsible for Andrew’s being cast in his canceled TV show. Hi everyone Our next meetings will be on Thursday, July 16 and Thursday, August 20. New dates will be posted soon. We are now meeting at the Lakewood Main Library 15425 Detroit Ave Lakewood, Ohio 5:30 - 8:30pm Please feel free to bring any scenes or short scripts you would us to table read. We’ll also be discussing the 5 basic plot points in scripts so if you have a chance watch your favorite movie and note the times of : the inciting incident, act 1 plot point, the midpoint, end of act 2 plot point and the act 3 plot point. It’s interesting to see how most successful films follow this basic format. This is a group for all levels of screenwriters in Cleveland. Come meet other people with a passion for film and writing, share scripts, receive feedback and analyze professional scripts as they relate to the finished film. The goal of this group is to provide an ongoing forum for members to improve their skills, collaborate, and build relationships. It will also explore ways to get finished scripts out to the film industry. We look forward to meeting you! —Jim

Tales from the Bard: an Improvised Musical Epic performs this weekend!

Created and performed by Mike Frye, with music improvised by Jack Routhier, this FREE show will be performing at Playhouse Square four times this weekend as part of the Borderlight Fringe Festival. In the ancient bardic tradition, heroes such as Odysseus and Beowulf were immortalized through a mixture of storytelling and song, performed in mead-halls to a captive audience who could probably recite the whole thing themselves. Tales from the Bard aims to find new heroes among us worthy of such epic treatment. In every performance, with help from his willing audience, The Bard will spin a new tale of heroism that will have you singing along by the end. Based on Homeric traditions and modern musical sensibilities, this improvised storytelling adventure will immerse you in the ancient history of theatre while creating a brand new legend to live on long after the show is over.
